Private Homes apartment description
If the country life is something that calls you, this newly renovated casita on our rural property just north of Santa Fe is the place for you! This is horse country, and the area has maintained its historic, Northern NM roots.
The views of the Sangre de Christo mountains outside your bedroom window are breathtaking, and the magnificent sunsets, seen from the kitchen window or front door, provide you with a 'light show' nearly every evening. The quaint and lovely winery just down the road from us (Estrella del Norte) offers the best of Northern NM wines, and literally and figuratively gives you a flavor of the countryside.
Our roosters will let you know that 'morning has broken', and there will be a fresh supply of carrots and 'horse candy' in the casita so that you can 'make friends' with our burros, Miss Bea and Miss Daisy, if you want to!! You can interact with our animals (the goats and chickens are friendly, too!) or stay toward the front of the property and just enjoy their sounds and energy...which ever feels right to you!
We are near several small towns (Pojoaque, Espanola, Chimayo), local places of interest (Santa Fe Opera, Sanctuario de Chimayo, Nambe Falls), several museums/historical areas, and numerous Resort-Casinos (Buffalo Thunder Golf Resort & Casino is the newest), so there is shopping, sight-seeing and entertainment within minutes of our place. So...you can choose a rural, quiet type of experience, or enjoy night-life, athletic & cultural activities and shopping...or do what we do, and enjoy the best of both worlds!
Come enjoy the art, culture, scenery, and people of Northern New Mexico...truly unique and unforgettable.

It is a piece of heaven!
Words defy our experience within your lovely casita & cherished land. It is a piece of heaven! Of all our travels traversing the US (including Alaska), we are most enchanted here. We enjoy the culture, the ancient history and...the numerous local people who have been uber-friendly and gracious! It has been our good fortune to meet and we are grateful. Thank you, too, for the daily animal chorus and your sweet hospitality. We truly hope to visit again!

It's pretty hard to improve on heaven!
Suggestions: 1. Calendar (because you lose track of time); 2. Little fan in the kitchen (to circulate the glorious mountain air); 3. Little radio - to listen to local stations to get a feel for Nambe and surroundings. The list above is merely a light-hearted suggestion. It's pretty hard to improve on heaven. The sunsets are a gift from God. The restaurants -- Sopapilla (adorable), Rancho de Chimayo (a wonder!) Road Runner Cafe (fun!) are the stuff of legends... All in all, we flat-lander Easterners had a wonderful time. Thank you for your lovely home and hospitality!

We have loved every moment here!
We will always remember our first impressions of New Mexico from your lovely casita...the vistas, animals, weather, areas surrounding this most special place. We have loved every moment here on our continued journey. Hopefully our paths cross again when we finally settle into our own new home in Santa Fe. God bless you both for sharing with us your good fortunes.

The Casita was perfect for us!
Sam and I enjoyed our trip to Santa Fe. The Casita was perfect for us. Hiked at the Sante Fe Ski area, Pecos wilderness and at Tent Rocks. beautiful places. The food here is great! My husband loved the Green chili. I have already recommended the Casita to friends.

We felt right at home!
Chris, Daphne & I had a wonderful time. This was a new experience for Daphne (the farm animals) and she really loved it. Both of you have a wonderful home here. We felt right at home! I am sure we will be back this way again. We loved the slower pace, the mountains, people and, of course, the food!

The Sun Rises and (Sun) Sets are Beyond Words!
What a beautiful casita! You can tell a lot of love went into making this a "home away from home" for those that find their way here. It is a great place to anchor and travel to many beautiful areas during the day. The sun rises and sets are beyond words. Audre & Leonardo are the perfect proprietors, making sure everything is perfect. I will certainly return on my next visit to Santa Fe.

Thank you for your hospitality and kindness!
Thank you for your hospitality and kindness during our stay. The casita is a great place to sit and ponder the world. Loved the animals and the birds...nice to see that NM chickens also enjoy papaya! As I told you when I booked the casita, I wanted a place to enjoy my breakfast looking at something nice. The Mountains (Sangre de Christo) are the perfect thing. And, thank you for the pad for the bench!!

Our family of four stayed in the casita for three nights at the end of July. It was a great place to stay and very reasonably priced. It was about at 15 minute drive into Santa Fe but was well worth the drive to stay out of the hustle of town. My girls ages 4 and 6 also enjoyed feeding the animals! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most definitely stay here again if we are visiting Santa Fe.

Great place to stay
Great place to stay
My wife and I were very happy with our stay here. The casita was comfortable, our dogs were welcome, and the owners were very hospitable. They even drove to the store to get me saltines and ginger ale when I came down with a stomach bug. I would highly recommend this property to anyone considering it.

Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: So enjoyed having you as a guest at the Casita! It is not much fun to be "under the weather" on your vacation, so Leonardo was happy to run to the store for some emergency provisions. :) Glad you had a good time...the burros miss you guys! Warm regards, Audre & Leonardo

About the owner: I am a medicinal aromatherapist, and my practice, Shining Sun Aromatherapy, is located on the other side of the same building which houses the casita. My husband, Leonardo, is the craftsman behind the beautiful work in the apartment, and he does everything with skill, flair and heart. I am the decorator of the pair! As he always says, he can build the house, but I make it a home. We are a great team. We love our animals, and keeping things neat around the property, but not manicured. We want to maintain the natural feel of the place. Beginning in the spring of 2011, we plan to plant medicinal plants on our 1.5 irrigated acres of land, and begin to bring Shining Sun Farm into fruition!
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
The casita is located across from our house, the main house on the property. I was drawn to the rural nature of this area, and the fact that the old Northern NM culture is still alive and well here. My husband grew up in El Rancho, just up the road from Nambe, and his family lives throughout the area...we had the guest house/studio on the property, and renovated part of it to be the home of Shining Sun Aromatherapy, and the back portion to be a vacation rental property because of the strong pull this area has to people drawn by the beauty of the Southwest, the unique art and culture of this area, and the local farming culture that still thrives in this area...every town has farmers markets, including the fabulous one in Santa Fe.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
For people who love rural areas and farm animals, and miss this in their lives, this is a chance to be on a beautiful property with breathtaking views, up close and personal to these wonderful companions. (We also have three wonderful dogs). You are centrally located to Santa Fe, Taos, and Nambe Falls...lots to see and do, but, nestled in the cottonwoods, it all seems a million miles away. Because we love animals so much...we have designated our casita as 'animal friendly', because we know how difficult it can be to travel with your pets and find lovely accommodations.
