This large unique luxury villa with high wood ceilings and curved archways, provides complete privacy along with stunning unobstructed Pacific Ocean and virgin rain forest views. In real estate parlance, it is called a 10/10. From bird, to whale, to sunset watching, or laughing at the antics of the monkeys that come visit, this will become a vacation experience you will treasure for your whole life. With two large master suites, a third double bedroom, large office, living and dining rooms, there is room to really breath in our home which we call 'Tucan Tango'.
The ocean facing terrace with inlayed ceramic art, offers great options for dining, bird and pool antics watching, reading in a quiet nook, or taking an afternoon siesta. Guests appreciate our summer kitchen for outdoor meal preparation but are amazed by our indoor one. The oversize italian marble cooking island with sit up bar for 4 allows multiple cooks and want-to-be cooks to participate in the meal preparation. To help, we have the best stainless steel appliances, a waist level self cleaning oven, a warmer oven, glass stovetop along with all the mixers, microwaves and mashers you'll ever need.
The bedroom separation gives the Master Bedroom access to an upper floor and private verandah. The oversize, ensuite bathroom and extra large shower is beautifully designed and feels like a spa.

The second Master bedroom, on the ground floor east wing, is also an en suite and has a breath-taking view of the rain forest and the ocean from solid wood carved headstone bed, or from its terrace.

The third bedroom is 30 ft from the second Master and has a private 4 ft walk to it's almost en suite bathroom. It's floor to ceiling windows look out over the back gardens which have flowers plants and fruits ranging from orchids, to ginger, to halyconias and bananas, papayas, pineapples and lemons. Behind them is the rain forest.

Our 'wow feature' is a beautiful, long, curved, tiled, infinity edge pool. It is the largest in the area and stretches along the front of the terrace. It is surrounded by 'corolina', a natural pourous stone that never heats up in the sun and never becomes slippery when wet. Submerged in the pool opposite the infinity edge is a seat for 4 people. There is also a 4 inch ledge that traverses the deep end infinity wall, allowing guests to stand in the deep end as they drink in the sight of the whales spouting or the formations of parrots that noisily give you a private fly past. To top it all, we have installed 'firefly fountains' that spurt controlled fingers of water over the pool that you can swim under, or through and which at night looks like fingers of coloured light. There is also grass to play on or you just sit on the edge of the patio and gaze over one of the most spectacular views on our planet. Don't be surprised when the toucans fly in to the front garden and perch to watch you. Birds, including dozens of parrots, pairs of colourful scarlet macaws and butterflies abound. Howler Monkeys will be your morning alarm clock as well as the signal that the day is coming to a close as you watch the crimson red sun sink into the ocean.

Finally, for additional safety, apart from a security system, we have built a guest house on an adjacent plot far behind the house that houses our groundskeeper and his family.

We have made every effort to make our piece of paradise inviting and welcoming. If you enjoy good architecture, good design, wildlife and nature and want to experience a week in a tropical forest paradise with all mod cons, then look no further.

Some helpful advice for first timers to Costa Rica . Although our long driveway is fully concreted, a 4-wheel drive car is highly recommended year round in SW Costa Rica, as bridges on highways are often washed away and you'll find yourself having to drive through 'irish bridges' in the rivers! Also your adventures to indiginous villages in the hills will take you across creeks and up unpaved mountain roads where a 4x4 is a must. All car rental agencies in Costa Rica rent 4x4's but during December to March they sometimes run out and will try and rent you a cheaper 2x4. Say 'No' and rent elsewhere.

Pura Vida!

Stayed a month over the Christmas Season. Saw the end of the rain and the beginning of the heat. We were 3 couples and an infant so appreciated the separate rooms and 3 bathrooms & ample living space indoors and out. Good for 2 couples or large family. Pool is as described and we enjoyed using it at the beginning and end of our days. Les & Jane were extremely attentive before, during and after our visit and dealt quickly with any issue that arose. The couple who met us and gave us the intro to the house were wonderful too. The spectacular view was even better than described and we much enjoyed the sunsets and sunrises, listening to the monkeys, watching the tucans and green parrots. We also enjoyed all manner of insects and flowers which many don't see when they stay in the tourist zones. Ojochal [Ohoshall] is a treasure as are many of the mostly deserted beaches nearby. Great little coffee place across from the police station and the farmers markets were good too. The gravel and dirt road to the house is 20-30 mins each way which adds time onto each outing. The house is showing signs of wear and is not as luxurious as we expected from reading the posting. For those who care, the TV is tiny with limited English or sports channels. Several things in disrepair such as BBQ, and some issues with cleaning and maintenance services, especially over the holidays. It is also not as private as we'd expected but still a vacation that was quieter and more peaceful than a resort. And our family had a wonderful time together over the holidays.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the view, Ojochal, beaches and the view! We have listened to you and have replaced the one faulty burner on the BBQ and now have a larger HD LCD TV. We apoligise about the maid service over Christmas - we will in future let guests know that over holiday periods the maid service will be adjusted to accommodate her holidays. And thankfully the municipality worked on the roads in Ojochal since your visit and the trip to town has been reduced.

Our family of 7(son, wife and grandson, daughter and boyfriend, of course us) enjoyed a wonderful week at this lovely home. The accommodations fit perfectly for us. We enjoy cooking and spending time together and the outside grill, table and seating worked well for us. There were several good resturants close by when we didn't feel like cooking. Although, I would recommend making reservations ahead at Citrus and Exotica. The home is conveniently located to many beaches, activities and grocery stores which we took advantage of. Rafting, zip-line, scuba, river trips, horse back riding to waterfalls. Uvita Information center was a great help with all the necessary details. Most of all we loved sitting pool side and watching the tides change- the view is awesome. Waking up to parakeets, parrots, tucans and howler monkeys in the distance. It has been a long time since we have all been able to vacation together. I couldn't have picked a more spectacular place. Thanks for sharing your home. We hope to return.

Now that we have returned to a black and white Saskatchewan winter we love to remember the brilliant colours, new sounds, and first time experiences we had at Toucan Tango in South Western Costa Rica, in late January of 2011. We wonder if it might have been a dream. Each day began by sipping coffee on the patio as monkeys, toucans, and parrots played nearby. The view beyond was of lush forests leading the eye to the ocean. Once breakfast was over, the exploring began. We were delighted to visit beaches located within a short drive, each offering some unique and memorable feature. We swam in a waterfall, free from other tourists, and then caught fish at a Tilapia farm, and sat sipping ice cold local beer while the kitchen transformed our catch into a beautiful lunch! One day, we visited a reserve where we bought beautiful art, and learned about the culture. Driving along the top edge of a mountain to the reserve we captured breathtaking views on camera. Even buying groceries, was fun. We soon learned that you don’t need to buy lemons because you just pick them off the trees in the garden. Also, glorious fresh flowers grow wild everywhere. The late afternoon swims in the infinity pool became a routine. This was the perfect start to our fabulous evenings. We often watched the sun go down from the pool, had a luxurious shower, and then using either the outdoor kitchen, or the well thought out indoor kitchen, prepared a feast to consume on the softly lit patio. I can still taste the bananas, picked earlier in the garden, then baked to perfection in rum and butter. Imagine having dessert after eating the whole chicken slow roasted on the outdoor rotisserie. Some evenings we ate delicious meals at exceptional restaurants. There is an amazing selection of places to dine out. For us, Toucan Tango is a bright and colourful memory, which will warm us until spring arrives. During our stay, we were surprised to meet several people from our part of Canada. Clearly, this is the perfect antidote to a Canadian winter.

Owner response: Thank you Gord and Maureen for your lovely review. People find it difficult to believe that you can see more wildlife here than at Manuel Antonio park! And now we are even seeing scarlet macaws flying in pairs looking down from the pool's infinity edge. Plus if you return, the pineapples and oranges in the garden should be ready for eating too!

Our stay at Tucan Tango was indeed memorable. The villa itself blends beautifully with the landscape and the landscape itself is glorious. Who could ask for a more pleasant setting? The proximaty to beaches and local sites was definitely a plus and rest assured, there's lots to see and do. The entire scene made us feel as though we had died and gone to heaven. We look forward to our next visit.

Our 10 day stay at Toucan Tango was as close to a Costa Rican paradise as we ever could have imagined. We began every day by eating breakfast on the patio surrounded by rainforest and a stunning view of the ocean. Toucans often sat in the near by trees and we ate papayas and bananas straight from the garden. We rented an SUV and every day was a new adventure either going to one of the many near by beaches or taking part in the great activites that were offered a short drive from the house. We went horse back riding to a hidden waterfall , kayaking in the ocean, zip lining through the jungle, and on a boat cruise through the mangroves. Every evening we rushed home to experience the amazing views of the sunsets from the patio and had a few margaritas in the pool to kick off the night. For dinner we alternated between making dinner at home, using both the spacious kitchen and outdoor BBQ and driving down the mountain to the two five star restaurants-Exotica and Citrus. I would highly recommend both. We stayed with two other couples which was perfect with three comfortable bedrooms each with their own bathroom. The house was very private and clean with modern appliances and ammenities that made if feel like home. Local artwork and furniture added to the ambience of being in the rainforest. I can't say enough about Toucan Tango and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to have an amazing and memorable stay in Costa Rica.

You guys sure seemed to have a lot of fun and if the surf board could speak it would be saying it wants you guys to come back again! We hope you'll all be able to come again soon. Sincerely, Les and Jane

The owner's desciption of Tucan Tango said it all. It was a vacation in paradise. The villa was amazing with more amenities then we have at home. The views from everywhere on the property were spectacular.Although there was no reason to leave the villa we did go to the nearby village (Ojochal) for a great dinner. Our nightly swims in the infinity pool with the firefly fountains(they were made in Canada)were more then romantic. We will never forget the wakeup calls from the Howler monkeys and the Tucans that we saw every day right outside our bedroom window. We were glad that we listened to the suggestion that we rent a 4x4 as we enjoyed our day trips without any worries about having to deal with the less then perfect road conditions. However, even those adventures added to the wonderful memories of our vacation in Costa Rica.Tucan Tango more then lived up to our expectations. We will definitely return very soon.

Owner response: Dear Pat and Jamie, Thank you for submitting your review and saying such nice things about our villa in the rain forest and the Ojochal area. We'll ask the howlers to keep it down in the morning but when they occassionaly do, the parrots make up for it so you can't win! I hope we'll have the pleasure of seeing you both again. Sincerely, Les and Jane

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful villa and were delighted with its ameneties, the view and the abundance of wildlife. We are bird watchers and have never seen such a wide variety of species. We heard and saw large numbers of howler monkeys nearby and having been unsuccessful on an Amazon voyage were amazed at how plentiful they are in the region.

Owner response: Enter Text Dear Tim and Nicky, Thank you for posting such a wonderful review and we look forward to having you visit again , especially as the mccaws are now breeding on Isla Gaza which you can see clearly from the villa.. We've also just planted some almond trees in the back upper garden so hopefully they may decide to mate up here at Tucan Tango too! Sincerely, Jane and Les

About the owner: Having been a film producer and well travelled, from the Magnetic North Pole to safaris in Kenya, we searched the world looking for a place that had the most spectacular view, teeming with wildlife, flora and fauna but was also warm with gentle breezes and had an indiginous people who were friendly. We found it a few miles from the village of Ojochal,in SW Costa Rica,a politically stable country. We then set about designing a house that was full of curves and arches, cubby holes in the wall for artwork and of course creating a garden of paradise with all types of fruits and flowers. We named it Tucan Tango because in our first dawn, waking up in the house , we saw these two toucans come to a tree ten feet from our balcony and then they started to dance together . Not just a mating dance, but, honestly, it was a Tango! Jane and I have video to prove it!

                      Why the Owner Chose Ojochal:
Stunning views. Abundant wildlife and birds. Fresh fruit from the garden. Largest infinity pool in the area. The people. Warm oceans, political stability and excellent health care, with a major hospital only 20 minutes away.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Space, freedom from man made noise, inspiring architecture. Where else can you be ten feet from wild Toucans, wild parrots, wild Macaws; or 50 feet from white face and howler monkeys! Or a ten minute drive to swimming in a river with a waterfall, or surfing in the ocean, or exploring caves in an unspoilt paradise shaped coconut kissed beach that is only 20 minutes away! Or live in an unpaved community that still has the three best restaurants, French, Italian and Thai,in the country!
