Lanesboro
Lanesboro is a historic village nestled in the Bluffs of the Root River Valley. Experience the spectacular paved Root River State Bike Trail, winding 60 miles through Bluff Country. Excellent for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing, it runs along towering limestone bluffs, dense hardwood forests and peaceful small towns.

Besides receiving the Great American Main Street Award, Lanesboro was named one of 100 Best Small Art Towns in America by author John Villani and one of the 50 Best Outdoor Sports Towns by Sports Afield magazine. Outside Magazine featured Lanesboro as one of the '20 Best Dream Towns in America to Live and Play.'

Whalan
Whalan is located 4 miles East of Lanesboro, on the Historic Bluff Country National Scenic Byway. Whalan is a little town of about 35 people. The town is only 4 blocks by 4 blocks. You have the river on the one side and you are surrounded by magestic bluffs on the other 3 sides. Here you will enjoy the peace and quiet on would expect in a weekend getaway. The Root River State Bicycle trail runs right along the river and at the base of the bluffs for most of it's 60 mile trek.

Little known adventures
Book yourself a horse drawn wagon ride. Imagine riding thru the woods overlooking the Root River Valley. Relax being at peace with the great outdoors. The scenic overlooks are like no other in the area. Explore over 100 acres of wooded private property. Horse drawn wagon rides are available year around. The rides take about an hour. Half way thru the ride, you stop at a little cabin over looking the Root River Valley, where you can warm up for the journey back. It is a must do activity.

Bluff Country Jeep Tours, another wonderful way to explore the wilderness. You are taken from the bottom of the bluff, up to the top along private trails, that allow you to truly enjoy the outdoors. We take you places that you would be glad you were not hiking...:-) The switch back trails bring you from the river bottoms up 450 feet up to one of the most spectacular views imaginable.

Amish tours are another must see. We have several Amish communities to visit, and shop with.

Located 4 miles from Lanesboro, just 100 feet from the bike trail, the CycleInn was a good fit for 3 couples. Plenty of parking space for cars and bikes, in a quiet location. Entire home is clean. Did not notice odors mentioned by other reviewers. Well-equipped kitchen, adequate dining area, comfortable seating in living room equipped with cable TV. Roomy first floor master bedroom with attached master bath. Another bathroom with shower on main floor. 2nd bedroom is somewhat small, with a double bed and not much floor space beside, no ceiling fan, but if you close the door, the air conditioning is adequate. 3rd bedroom with large bed, adequate floor space and closet, TV, ceiling fan and 2 windows. No, you cannot see the river from the house, but it's on the other side of the bike path, through the brush. If you're bicycling, you'll see the river off and on, where people are tubing and fishing. Proximity to the mini-golf is fun, with no encroachment by mini-golfers. Tammy's hospitality is tops! She was always nearby with help or tips, friendly and cheerful. We loved the view from the front porch while having coffee in the morning. Family photos add to the charm. Children's toys, games, reading material, maps of the area create a welcoming atmosphere.

Tammy, THANK-YOU, the cyclin-inn exceeded our expectations! The property and the cyclin-inn home was beautiful and well-maintained. After spending 3 days, 2 nights with 6 other adults, We were all sad to have to check-out. It was the perfect location for biking the root river trail, playing minature golf, picking strawberries, just relaxing on the porch, or riding to the pie shop. We had several other friends, camping out, and staying at B&B's in the area, everyone who stopped by to visit us, couldn't believe the beauiful home we had rented, and wanted to know how we had found the cyclin-inn. Tammy Thank You again, you were a wonderful host. We will definitely be back. Mark & Bonnie Mackey West Bloomington, MN

My family and I have stayed at the Cyclin-Inn twice, and are looking forward to a 3rd visit next week. The house is very comfortable, clean and well maintained. It is in a beautiful setting right off of the Root River Trail. The owners, Tammy & Duane, are so accommodating. They took us on an amazing sleigh ride when we were there during the winter time. I would highly recommend this property above all others, any time of year.

My family and I enjoyed our weekend so much bicycling the Root River Trail and touring the local sites that we are coming back again this year. The location was terrific right by the bike trail and enough space for 6 people with a well stocked kitchen and outdoor patio dining. We also had a great time playing games on the grassy area next to the house. Another selling point for me was the pie shop within walking distance. Loved not driving around all weekend.

Tammy, thank you so much for a awesome time on our special romantic weekend. We have stayed here multiple times in the last 2 yrs but this was the best. The house has so much to offer. It provided us with all the amenities,so we didn't have to bring much from home. The house has so much character and warmth to it. Having you close by gave us time to visit and thank you for giving us so much history of the house and how you have remodeled it. Thanks for all the info on what to do and see in the area. We cant wait for our next stay. This place is a must if you want a great weekend away.

I have stayed at this house many times over the years. The house is always spotless, and if we need anything it is just a quick phone call away. I really like the hot tub, the front porch, the immediate access to the Root River bike trail, the mini golf course (which is much harder than it looks) and the proximity to Lanesboro. We stay here every time we visit the area. I recommend it to everyone I know when he or she is looking for a little escape.

It would be good to know that this house is over 100 years old before you rent it. It is right on the root river trail but you cannot see the river from the property. The root river is on the other side of the bike trail and through some thick woods. The house itself has a strong musty or mold smell, particularly in the living room. There are 1.5 bathrooms and not 2. In the main bathroom we had to fix the toilet handle every time it was used. There is a whirlpool tub in one of the bathrooms but no hot tub (as noted in the description) There were a lot of spiders in the house and A LOT of cobwebs. The owners own the mini golf course on the property and are there during the day. The phone in the home is the contact number for the mini golf course so it rings a lot during the day (although the owner pointed out it has caller ID so no need to answer unless it is a familiar #). The area has a lot to do and this house is convenient to a lot and the area is beautiful but I wish I had known this info before I rented. I have rented over 10 different VRBO's and have always been so pleased so our family was really disappointed.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you experienced some issues while you were on vacation. I would have been happy to help you resolve your problems while you were here, like you said we were just across the street during the day and my cell phone is always on. Many people are happy that they have an onsite concierge, to assist in planning their activities. We had no idea the toilet was broken, we would have been happy to fix it, and we have fixed it. As for the hot tub/Jacuzzi/whirlpool, most people use these terms interchangeably, I am sorry you misunderstood that we have all three. I have adjusted the description to reflect the century old state of the house as well as changed the bathrooms to 1.5, and just listed Jacuzzi, as not to mislead another. The phone could be unplugged or the ringer turn down or to silent if it bothered you. In the confirmation letter, the phone situation was clearly stated that is it shared with the golf course and we provide Caller ID for your convenience. This property is Riverfront, the property goes all the way to the river, it is about 250 feet to the river, and yes it is on the other side of the bike trail, thru the woods, about 100'. There is a trail to the river. We have considered clearing some of the woods, to increase the view, however Hwy 16 is on the other side of the river, and it would increase the road noise considerably. As for the musty smell in the house, after several days of rain, during the peak of allergy season, to close the windows and use the central air, might have eliminated that problem. There has not been any previous mention or complaint of a musty smell. The spider web have also been eradicated.

                  Year Purchased: 2001

About the owner: Hello, and welcome to Cyclin-inn in beautiful Whalan, Minnesota. I am Tammy Hughes, the proprietor of the Cyclin-inn. I am originally from Duluth, Minnesota and have been migrating south ever since I became old enough to explore Minnesota. After spending 15 years in the Twin Cities, and escaping every weekend to go biking, kayaking, or horseback riding, I decided that I should make my move a bit further south. With the Root River / Root River State Bicycle Trail being the draw, I began searching for my dream property. In discovering Lanesboro with its majestic bluffs and scenic views, I fell in love. In 2001, I found my little haven in Whalan, just 4 miles east of Lanesboro. During the first year, I was in love again with Litefoot. He is a half Belgian and half Appaloosa draft / riding horse. Living on the outskirts of the small community of Whalan, he quickly moved in. So in the mean while, I created the Cyclin-inn. Allowing you to enjoy the peacefulness of the small community and the great outdoor scenery right out the door on the Root River, On the Root River State Bicycle Trail. Please enjoy my home and treat it as your own. You will find all the comforts of home and more. The Cyclin-Inn is located on the Root River State Bicycle Trail, on the Root River and within a block of two city parks, and Gator Greens Mini Golf. Whalan has 2 places to eat, and an outfitter within walking distance where you can rent a bike, kayak, tube, or even a canoe. Within a few blocks, you can connect with Bluff Country's Jeep Tours, and even take a horse drawn sleigh or wagon ride. Bring your family and friends to Whalan for a fun, relaxing getaway. On your way here, explore our National Scenic Byway, Highway 16. The town of Whalan offers peaceful tranquility and opportunity to explore the Bluffs of Minnesota.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is a large back yard (Actually 5 acres) Great area for back yard fun. There is a fire pit, loacated on the edge of the property... great place to kick back and relax. Horse drawn wagon rides and Bluff Country Jeep tours are available upon request.
