This cabin sits at the base of Round Top Mountain on the Alpine Loop with wonderful views. Enjoy the sunny south-facing covered porch or hike up the ridge for even more panoramic views. This property is almost two acres, minutes from town and provides remote mountain privacy. There is a home over the ridge but not visible from the property. The property borders Bureau of Land Management Public land to the north and west with abundant wildlife. When your day is done, snuggle up on the Natuzzi Italian leather loveseat in this romantic getaway for a couple. Dim the red chandelette and dine at the table with views of Round Top Mountain. The living room and bedroom have vaulted ceilings with fans and lights that dim. Want to bring the kids? The sleeping loft has a FOUR foot high ceiling with room for the kids or young at heart on two twin beds. There is plenty of parking space. If you are traveling with family or friends with an RV, we have space for them too.
The cabin is freshly painted both inside and out with all new furnishings. Just steps from the covered porch is rock bordered picnic area nestled in the aspens. There is an 8 foot picnic table and charcoal grill for your use.
The kitchen has all the dishes and cooking utensils needed to cook a great dinner. We also provide spices, foil, paper towels, coffee filters, dishwashing liquid and too much more to list.
For those familiar with Lake City, to reach the property, travel south (towards Lake San Cristobal and Slumgullion Pass) 1/2 mile out of Lake City. You enter the property on a private drive on your right before you reach ski hill and the Round Top Mountain Road.
We are taking reservations for 2012. There are not many, if any, rental opportunities this close to town at this price point with privacy and room to roam. Book now for the time you desire.

My father had gone to Lake City on an annual fishing trip for over 20 years... always stayed in a camper or other lodgings. This by far was his absolute favorite place to stay. The setting... just far enough out of town to feel like you're in a remote and private getaway... but close enough to have all conveniences at your fingertips... is perfect. We ate dinner with a doe and her fawn laying down in the grass, just outside the window. The cabin was fully equipped, tastefully decorated, and the space was planned out so meticulously to utilize every inch in the most efficient way possible. As 4 adults, we were more than happy with the accomodations. We would definitely love to stay there again. A comfortable little cabin in the perfect setting! =)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Silver Coin Cabin. Deer appeared almost everyday and the chipmunks were so friendly. The cabin was remote but yet close enough to town to enjoy. The cabin was clean, comfortable and roomy for a couple or a couple with two small children. We had a super quiet time. Thanks so much. This cabin is a wonderful little place for a couple or a couple with two little children. It has all of the amenities that one could imagine. The place is clean, neat and well decorated. It is very close to town, yet off by itself. My wife and our grand girls had a great time at this place, with the girls really enjoying their little loft. Highly recommend this place.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

Best vacation we have ever had! Steve was very helpful and accomodating each time we talked. We visited Lake City a few years ago and loved the area. We decided to come back this year and we saw the Silver Coin Cabin was available. The location description and pictures were very accurate.. Upon arrival it was even more beautiful than we had anticipated. We were greeted by 3 mule deer upon arrival. We enjoyed watching the chipmunks each day. The cabin was very clean and was stocked with even more supplies than I could have ever dreamed. We enjoyed hiking thru the woods picking up pine cones and cool evenings on the porch. We rented a jeep and drove the Alpine Loop... what a wonderful experience. We were able to take some very good and up close pictures of a big horn sheep. What fun we had that day!! We visited the downtown area and felt as if we belonged there. The people are all so friendly. I would highly recommend this area and most of all this cabin, it is close to town, yet private. We plan to come back soon! Jeff and CrissRecommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

Loved everything about the cabin and property. It met all our expectations - furnished beautifully, full kitchen with everything we needed, comfortable bed, and lots of towels. Hope we can return next year and bring our two grandchildren to share the 'kids quarters". They would love the deer and chipmunks. Thanks for sharing this special place with us. We went to Lake City over the fall and had such a wonderful time. While not exploring all of the surrrounding jeep trails and hikes, we were able to relax and cook chili and grill at our cute cabin! It had everything we needed for our trip - cozy kitchen, outdoor grill and surrounding propery with lots of deer. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We could not have picked a better place to stay in Lake City. This little cabin is a short way out of town, but feels secluded on the side of the mountain. The owners have done a fantastic job outfitting the place with everything you could need (even a French Press for coffee!) in a cozy little place. The decor is well thought out and the cabin was absolutely immaculately clean. The picnic table outside was the perfect location to watch the sunlight filter through the aspens and listen to the birds. Our four year old would have loved the little loft upstairs, had this not been a romantic getaway trip! The owners were extremely helpful in preparation for our trip, sending information about Lake City and things to do in the surrounding area when we made our reservation and had very well organized information (and even a local hiking book) in the cabin. I would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

What a wonderful cabin. I had talked to Teresa before coming, so she knew we were both classical singers. We opened the door to the cabin and walked in to a symphony playing on the stereo system. Just an indication of what thoughtful hosts the Pippins are. The cabin is so well equipped, it became a joke. "Gee, it's really such a nice kitchen, we should do some cooking. Might have been nice to bring a cook book. Wonder if there's one here already. Of course there is!" I have to echo the sentiments of the last poster. We almost don't want to say anything, because we very selfishly want to keep this great find to ourselves. There has obviously been such attention to the comfort of their guests and making them feel at home in all regards. Everything seems new, everything is clean and well cared for. The cabin is very private; there are neighbors to the south, but they can't be seen over the berm, and otherwise, the cabin is surrounded by BLM and National Forest. We hiked up the hill right out the door, and also walked into town. The road is close, but really not that noticeable. We heard about the doe and her fawn, but never saw them. We were sad about that. Lots of chippies though, and a very cute packrat....in our car's engine compartment. Luckily, we discovered him (her?) very early on and persuaded him to go elsewhere. (No animals harmed in Operation Packrat). Bill recommended a hike to us, I think called Alpine Valley. Didn't see anyone else and had the most delicious wild strawberries and raspberrries. Also climbed (almost) Sunshine and the wildflowers were amazing. I'm originally from Colorado, but hadn't ever been to Lake City when I lived here. Just stumbled on it when climbing Handies a few years ago. We've been coming back as often as we can since then. It's a beautiful area and a little more out of the way. We hope to come back next year, and hope to stay at the Silver Coin.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

I am almost reluctant to write a review for this incredible little property, as I find myself wanting The Silver Coin to remain the "best kept secret" for vacation lodging in Lake City! (...but that would not be fair to the wonderful couple who owns this cozy cottage, and maintains it as if they themselves were living there). This is truly a "happy place", one that my husband and I are so thrilled to add to our Lake City lodging possibilities. We have been vacationing in Lake City for 16 years, and for most of those we stayed in cabins within a family-owned "resort". When our dream cabins were bought out by a new owner, we were forced to look for alternatives. We discovered the Silver Coin here on VRBO, and upon inquiry found it was available this summer for the exact dates we needed lodging. My contact with the owners was so cordial right from the beginning and remains so today, almost 3 weeks since we sadly drove away from their property. Everything that was stated about this cabin in the listing description was accurate. The only bit of a "surprise" was its proximity to the highway, but this was not due to deception. And...it turned out not to be a negative at all. Hwy 149 is not the typical highway, the cabin is tucked into a grove of trees, and we found the nearness to town to be a positive! The cabin was so clean that it felt brand new, and the owners had labeled EVERYTHING so as to make it easier for the renters (light switches, etc) and they also were so well equipped! (For instance, they had a blender for my smoothies...plus they sent me a list before we came of all the things that were available in the kitchen so that we would know what we needed to bring). You can look at all the pictures, but even the pictures don't do this place justice (though they are beautiful). You won't find the deer and her little fawn that wandered almost daily into the aspen meadow just outside the cabin...nor will you see all the little chipmunks and golden-mantled ground squirrels that scurry around the rocks surrounding the lovely picnic area. The beds were VERY comfortable (I slept in the loft due to recovering from an injury and found that the mattresses on the floor were every bit as comfortable as any bed we stayed in during our stays in Hampton Inns...a nice surprise indeed!) I cannot say enough good things about the Silver Coin...comfortable, cozy, clean, and compelling! I hope we can return next summer!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
