This central Rome neighborhood is known for its wide boulevards, fine architecture and great shopping. The streets are wide enough for trees, vehicles, trolleys and pedestrians and the scale of the architecture reminds of us Paris but with an Italian flair, less groomed, more street markets.
This is the best neighborhood in Rome for real shopping. Along Via Cola di Rienzo there are fashion stores for shoes, leather and clothing that offer the latest fashions without designer prices. Good grocery shopping and gourmet food, too. And, lots of street vendors that are a dream for our teenage fashion mavens, Italian styles, budget prices.
Very close to the Vatican Museums, walking distance to Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's. Piazza del Popolo is a 15 minute walk. Use the subway from the Ottaviano stop to go everywhere else, 2 stops, 4 minutes to the Spanish Steps. The area is also really well served by buses and a tram.
This fine building from 1830 is handsome inside and out. It is on a corner of a half-moon piazza with a park at the center. The trees are high and provide a nice view from the apartment windows.
The apartment was renovated completely in 2009 and laid out with modern living in mind. The entry has a beautiful antique red table that shows off the antique tortoise-shell mirror above it. Straight ahead is the living room and to the right a long hallway reaches the far end of the apartment.
The living room overlooks the piazza with a high window. Clean, white modern furniture highlights Italian taste. The lounge chairs, both signed, are wonderfully comfortable. Known for their modern design in the 1950s, you have to remember that the function preceded design. A long hutch is of equally modern, clean and pleasing design. Its twin is in the dining room. The large, flat-screen television has satellite reception for some English language programs.
Frosted glass sliders separate the living and dining rooms. The modern, minimal design theme continues here with a glass-topped table that has expansion at both ends. Red leather chairs for six diners. Table will seat eight, bringing chairs from the kitchen.
A hallway connects the living and dining room with the kitchen that has a large (rather than under-counter) refrigerator, oven, gas stovetop, dishwasher, Nespresso machine as well as pots, pans and dishes.
The three bedrooms are the master bedroom that has an ensuite bathroom with enclosed shower. The tile work in all the bathrooms is modern and very pleasing. The master bedroom with red accents has a wall of closets and a small private balcony.
The 'blue' and 'green' bedroom each have two twin beds, plenty of closet space. Both have a view of the green piazza below.
There are two more bathrooms, one with jacuzzi tub with shower over and the other with enclosed shower.
One additional guest can be accommodated on a rollaway bed.

Truly homeGuest comment entered by owner
Five of us from the same parish in Fort Worth, Texas, traveled to Rome for 10 days. The apartment was very spacious, clean, comfortable, great location, easy walk to Vatican, taxi stand, grocery store, shopping. Fully stocked kitchen allowed us to have breakfast and dinner in the apartment and enjoy "together" time. Pat was wonderful to work with in the booking process. She was also most helpful when we tried learning to use the taxi system! Stanisleo greeted us and got us familiar with our surroundings. Beautiful view from our 6th floor. We left every morning for our day's adventure and returned in the evening feeling as though we were truly home! Loved the elevator - felt like we were living like the Romans!

Location was excellent
Tried Something New -- it Was a Great Idea to Rent This Apartment We travelled to Rome this spring with 5 adults. We needed three hotel rooms for a week. We travel a lot, but this was the first time we have considered renting a place in Europe. We chose the Rigoletto for price and location, but the fact that Lisa and Pat Byrne were so responsive to my emails and phone calls made me feel better about renting an apartment so far away. The Rigoletto was so much more spacious than we would have expected although the video helped a lot to visualize the rooms. Everyone had enough space to get away', watch TV or use computers. Internet was astrong connection. . The apartment is on a quiet square several floors up. It was quiet, very clean and had renovated bathrooms. We used Stefan who was recommended by Lisa and Pat for the trip to and from the airport. He also drove us to Villa d'Este outside Rome and on our final day, made a few stops for us in Rome we had missed. Our greeter met us on time and any small problems were addressed promptly by phone or email. The mosquitoes arrived in Rome when we did, so it is important to keep the windows closed. The location was excellent, safe and a short walk to the Vatican. Rome is such a wonderful city for walking , we found the location of Rigoletto outside the center of the city very enjoyable. Good supermarket around the corner. We recommend the Sicilian restaurant around the corner. We highly recommend this apartment and will rent through Lisa and Pat again in other cities.

Greatest stayGuest comment entered by owner
Great appartment. Top notch. Nicer than our home. The large 3 bedrooms and the 3 bathrooms made our life so much easier with our 3 kids. Location was quiet, a bit off the action but made for a nice walk every evening to help burn calories from the gelato. A lot of nice accesories that made our stay even more confi. Just a little more sport channels would have made it Italy perfect. But then the wife would have not appreciated as much...

excellent setup for our party of 6; 2 couples and 2 kids. very clean apt, nice appliances (we bought a Nespresso coffee machine at home after using the one in the apt). Rome was hotter than average when we were there and the aC worked like a charm. Try the Lemongrass Gelato shop located right at the Metro entrance. Also, there is a very nice pastry shop one block before the Metro station. It's only a door at street level then down a flight of interior steps, open early and late, lots of local customers, well-priced and excellent quality. Can't remember the name but you can't miss it as you walk to the Metro station. The Vatican is less than a ten minute walk away and use Metro or taxi for other sites.

Fabulous Rome-VacationGuest comment entered by owner
Our party of 6 adults had a wonderful time in Rome. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and truly a home away from home. We used public transportation (subway buses] all around Rome and we found our neighborhood to be a perfect place for all the services and conveniences everyone want when away from home. The kitchen in the apartment was well equipped which made it very easy to cook for a large group. The whole experience was wonderful and memorable for everyone! Thanks!

Look forward to returning in the future
We really enjoyed the apartment Rigoletto, it was huge and there was plenty of room for the five of us. The three bathrooms were all very nice with great showers, very clean and plenty of towels. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very functional. The building is really nice and in a great location, we enjoyed the area and had cappuccino every morning a block a way. There are several nice restaurants in the area, we also went to a chinese restaurant one night about two blocks away. There was a handy market a few blocks away and a florist right out our front door, a great location. We walked to the Vatican a few times, it was about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, the train station is about a 10 minute walk. We took the train a couple of times as well. We usually took a taxi back to the apartment at night, it was about 12 euros, only twice did we have to take two taxis (5 of us traveling together) but we usually had easy access to taxis that could accommodate 5. There is a taxi stand about 10 minutes away, we walked down one morning at 6:30 and they were there. The apartment greeters were very helpful and showed us all the appliances, a map and the local area. We enjoyed fireworks the first few nights out the window, not sure what they were for but they went off about 11 and it was awesome. We would definitely recommend this apartment and Italy Perfect, we had a great time and look forward to returning in the future. We looked at several apartments before choosing this one, we were not disappointed.

We were delighted
We were delighted with this comfortable, well-appointed, well-located" With a grocery store right around the corner, and everything we needed in the kitchen, we relaxed around the dining room table for meals; also a great place to play cards. The apartment was spacious, meticulously clean. We were met promptly by Stanislao, who showed us how to operate all equipment, and was available for any questions that might arise. The building was secure, and in a nice neighborhood for walking, close to good restaurants and the Ottoviano metro stop.

Magnificent Apartment!Guest comment entered by owner
We are a family of 7 adults (siblings and spouses); length of stay was five nights. This apartment had everything you could want or need, and more. It was very clean and comfortable. Being in a mostly residential area, it was a nice quiet retreat after touring all day. About a 15 minute walk from the Vatican, where you can catch the Hop On-Hop Off 110 Red Tour Bus. If you want to cook, the kitchen is nicely equipped (there is a supermarket nearby). Would definitely want to stay here again!

Christmas in RomeGuest comment entered by owner
Christmas in Rome
Our family of seven had a fabulous "Roman Holiday" !! We loved staying in Rigoletto! With three large bedrooms and three bathrooms, we were all ready to head out the door exploring at the same time! The apartment is in a great neighborhood with an excellent restaurant down the block and a large "american style" grocery store across the street. Thanks for the recommendations on taxi service and tour guides, both were wonderful. Finally, we cannot forget our greeter, Joseph, who helped us navigate not only the apartment but also managed to FedEx some packages back to the States in a very timely fashion. We would highly recommend not only this apartment but also the great services provided by Italy Perfect. Thank you !! Maureen, Connecticut

Very comfortable apartment in a very "local" neigh
We (all 6 of us, including 3 children under 11) really enjoyed our time at Rigoletto. It is an open, light filled apartment with plenty of room and good furnishings. We enjoyed finding the local fresh pasta maker and the little corner shops where we bought plenty of italian nutella and toasted bread to enjoy it on. The travel to the center was not too difficult but requires a bit of thought. However the value and space made the trip worth it and also made it a more authentic experience. We arranged a cooking class for a day while we were there which was great fun. Also would recommend the children's museum which requires a reservation - again worth it and reasonably convenient from the apartment.
