The owner is great to work with! The listing photos accurately reflect the house, very well kept, and close to everything. Most importantly Family friendly, lots of space and comfy-cozy! I particularly enjoyed the kitchen space to cook, fireplaces on both levels (lots of firewood for use) and the lower level room to store All the ski equipment and outerwear. We will certainly be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Always great to have guests like Bill, Jill and their friends - it helps take away the concern whether people will treat your house like it was their own. It is such a peace of mind and they were great to work with. They are also a classic example of the early bird gets the best booking - they were searching in early September 2012 and were the first one to book. Wish I could be a fraction as organized - I'll have to start taking lessons from them.

We were at Debra's house with 5 families including 6 kids. The house is super confortable and has a perfect layout. Lot's of things to entertain the kids - they had a blast! Debra was very accomodating and extremely easy to deal with. We are already planning our visit next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Alessandra and her guests were extremely easy going and a pleasure to have at our place. We laughed over a shared experience. I had to email her after their visit to ask if she knew where a blanket disappeared to from the loft. When she suggested to check the basement I knew what had probably happened - our kids when they were young would create forts in the bunk beds. Sure enough - that's exactly what happened with their crew. As Alessandra said - "kids will be kids" - it was like playing with the box on Christmas morning instead of playing with the toys.

Your house worked out GREAT again this year. It's perfect for our group! The house looks immaculate. We were able to hook up the Wii, unfortunately we forgot our games. We heard the kids in the lower level playing ping pong and laughing all weekend. NO bear sightings :) We had it all this year. Spring skiing on Saturday, Winter Ice skiing on Sunday and 8" Fresh Powder on Monday. Thank you! We had a great time. I hope we left the place in proper order as we scrambled to get on the road. Highway reports were not very good and we ran into several white-outs from the lake effect snow. Everyone made it home. P.S. I may have to get a 4 wheel drive SUV. Snow started Sunday night. After picking up some of our night skiers, I couldn't make it up the 242 hill with my front wheel drive. Others were having trouble as well, so once I lost my momentum, I was done. Turned around and left it parked in Ellicottville for the night. Luckily my brother-in-law had a 4x4 Silverado and got us all back safely.Owner response: This is the third year that Dave and the crew have stayed at our place - and we love their great attitude even when one year the hot water decided to inconsistently go AWOL. Dave's advice about Rte 242 was good - when the lake effect snow hits Ellicottville (which is what we all hope for) it does help to have cars with AWD.

This rental was perfect for a family reunion/ski vacation - great scenic location, well-equipped, furnished nicely. Owner was easy to work with and eager to please. An added advantage - nearby cross-country ski trails. Description and photos were accurate and helpful. Would recommend and hope to visit again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.
Owner response: Marge and her family were wonderful to deal with - especially since a huge storm decided to leave about 16" of snow in one day - and they were all trying to figure out how to travel home. Everyone was very caring and pitched in to make sure the place was immaculate (sparkling) for the next renters. Thanks Marge!

Our large group with lots of kids had a great stay in this cozy place near Ellicottville. It was great for family's! Lots of bunk beds and a separate living area in the basement for the kids to play. Peaceful, quiet setting, only 5 minutes from town.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Roxanne and her family/friends were great sports about sparse snow conditions - but by all accounts they had a good time anyways. Thanks to Roxanne's suggestions about more towels - we've made sure there are enough sets for up to 23 people. Man - that's a lot of showers!

There were 9 of us (two families) plus the dog who decided to take a mini respite from Cleveland and this house was perfect. It is extremely comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed which made it easy and enjoyable for me and my sister to prepare and serve every meal there. The sleeping spaces were comfortable and there were lots of bed choices...so many that we plan to include my brother and his family next year. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and there was not much snow so we did not go skiing, but we hiked around the local area and drove to Allegheny State Park (a fifteen minute drive) for more extensive hiking. The owner is lovely and easy to work with and wants you to enjoy her home as much as she does. This is a great rental.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: We were a little apprehensive about the limited skiing due to the mild December we were all experiencing - but Debra and her guests embraced the unexpected with a wonderful attitude and explored the hiking trails, which normally were for snowshoing and snowmobiling, and explored beautiful parks in the surrounding area. Debra's observation to me was "between food and going out for walks, when we come back, we're back to the food again. Doesn't get much better than that." Sounded like a great escape.

My family of 12 enjoyed a wonderful winter hoilday at this chalet. The chalet sleeps 12 easily and has a great location close to Holimont ski hill and the town of Ellicotville. The chalet was fantastically organized with a downstairs room for ski equipment, which made it easy to get out to the hill in the morning, and to file in at the end of the day. The living portions of the chalet were very homey with lovely fireplaces and comfey couches and chairs for all. The kitchen is well stocked and had lots of cuppord and counter space which made it easy to make wonderfull family meals together. After a day of skiing our family enjoyed the games in the basement - ping pong, air hockey and foosball hockey. It was also especially nice for my sister to be able to bring her dog along. The chalet is located in a quiet area where there are many trials for snow shoeing and walks. The owner's were very helpful in answering all of our questions and the chalet is well maintained. I would recommend this chalet to all of my friends. It was a great winter holiday!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.
Owner response: Kate and her family were our first renters and we're thrilled they enjoyed the place as much as we do. We are new to renting and it was important for us that guests have a great vacation when it comes to the investment in a holiday. Unfortunately we had a personal vacation experience where the rental was totally unpleasant (it wasn't through VRBO - that should teach us). If all our renters feel the same way as Kate we'll consider this a great way to meet new friends.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: We bought this amazing property in 1988 and finally, after almost twenty years, decided if we were ever going to enjoy it we should build a home sooner rather than later. Our dream is to retire here in another twenty years but until then we enjoy this spot more than anywhere else. As our family gets older, and as we both are involved in building our business ventures, we are not able to vacation as often as we would like. Sharing our home with families who will appreciate the warmth of the home, who will enjoy re-charging by sharing laughter with good friends and family, and re-energizing in an exquisite rural environment, makes it worth opening our doors to hopefully new friends who will say 'that was so worth getting away.' Our goal is to find like-minded guests who look forward to returning each year to their home away from home. We hope you are one of them.
Why the Owner Chose Ellicottville:
Ellicottville is simply about family. It's the place where we go that has no distractions. We can ski, snowboard, or snow-shoe as a family, share some laughs, watch MASH or Northern Exposure episodes, play games, or simply read a good book by the fire. It's where we connect as a family and find time to hear about what each of us care about. You cannot put a price tag on the importance of this part of our family time.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
Even if we're not in the greatest mood when we drive to Ellicottville; within minutes of walking in the door we start a fire and the frustrations melt away. The peaceful scenery calms us in any season and we let nature work its magic. With a southern exposure and full floor to ceiling windows in a two-storey, vaulted ceiling great room, the sunshine lulls even the most active person to relax. The stream outside our door provides a calming sound as we fall asleep (OK perhaps not in the dead of winter when it's frozen) but all the elements of nature - sunshine streaming in the windows, snow blanketing the trees, rain on the metal roof, or thunder rolling through the hills are therapeutic. It's a beautiful part of the world, right in our backyard.
