- Caye Caulker is tiny! It is about 2 miles long, about a mile at the bottom wide and at the top a mere couple of hundred feet. It is the shape of a comma. The main part of the island is the central to north sections, where the hotels, private homes, grocery stores, restaurants and bars are. There are plenty of them all. There are no brand name shops here, just small individual ones. The reef is 1/2 mile offshore to the east and provides most of the 'what to do's'. Snorkel, fish, swim, jet ski, water ski, kayak etc are all here. The water is shallow by shore and only about 15 feet by the reef. The calm waters provide excellent breeding grounds for the lobster and conch. Lazy days are to be expected, and rightly so! There is always something to do, and mainland trips to the Mayan ruins, the jungle, the cave systems and baboon and jaguar sanctuaries are easy to sort out too!...moreless

Best 40th Celebration!!!
Best 40th Celebration!!!
A group of 7of us went to Belize to celebrate our 40th birthdays this year. My husband and I have been to the island many times and stayed at a different property each time. This was our second stay at Amanda's Place and we had just as much fun this time as we did on our previous stay. We actually booked the house and two apartments since we had a large group. The pool is new since we stayed here last and even though the weather didn't cooperate fully we completely enjoyed laying out around the pool and a few of us even braved the chill to get in. Mario's Tours is right next door, which is a plus for us since we have always used Mario to set up our outings. We went snorkeling 3-4 times in the week + we were there as well as some great day trips out to see the manatee and sea turtles. You also can't go wrong with taking time to walk the island and kayaking north of the split. The porch is great to relax on and we spent many late afternoons reading and relaxing. Amanda is a GREAT host. We had one person celebrating a birthday while we were there and she helped us find the lady on the island who makes cakes. We had a small plumbing problem while we were there and it was taken care of immediately, which is exactly what one expects when the inevitable happens. Any questions we had were answered by Amanda and she even let us overflow the pool after it stopped raining!!!! We love staying here and would stay here every time if it was available every time we went to the island. We are planning our next trip and trying to decide where we are going and you can be sure if we are going to Belize we are going to stay here!

Owner response: Hello! Thank you so much for your lovely review! Next time we will get some more fun out of that pool too! How about some water slides from the roof down?! Too much?? Ha Ha. Thanks again, Amanda
Amanda's Casita was perfect for us and perfect for Caye Caulker. Casual environment, clean and well kept, with all the necessities and at a great price. I highly recommend this! And Amanda is great - helpful and knowledgeable. Would stay here again!

WOW!! Just WOW!!!
WOW!! Just WOW!!!
We've been home just over a week - can't wait to go back!! 1st - Amanda is amazing! From our first inquiry she has been so helpful. We exchanged several emails asking every little question we could think of and she would answer right away. The home is wonderful - 3 couples and more than enough space for all. Although the kitchen is fully supplied, we only used it to make coffee and store our beer! There were way too many wonderful places to eat out every meal, with prices being pretty affordable, from breakfast, snacks to wonderful dinners. We spent time every day around the pool/patio/rooftop. There was plenty to do-if you wanted to- or nothing to do, which my husband wanted. It was great fun people watching from the porch, plus the beer wagon drives by every morning and you just wave it down and buy! Couldn't be easier! Air conditioners in the bedrooms made the rooms really comfortable for sleeping. Best times were just walking around the island, checking out the food and people. Loved Habenero's and Rose's and Caulker Pizza- stay away from Jolly Rogers! Local band played at the Sport's Bar and it was really fun.Lots of dogs running around, but all just seemed to want to play and be loved. Wanted to take them all home tho. Got to spend some great time in conversation with the neighbors - really interesting people. We've been to several small islands, looking for the perfect place with character, good food, friendly people, things to do or equally content doing nothing. I can honestly say that Caye Caulker has it all. And Amanda and her Casita were a huge part of it all. Definitely recommend this rental ( BUT I better be able to have my house back when I'm ready for it. Hope it doesn't get too popular!) Thanks so much Amanda - and Scrumpy!

Owner response: WOW guys! Thanks so much for your lovely review about not only the house, but the island too! I thought I had found a real treasure and it is lovely to see that you agree! Come back any time and enjoy it all over again! Thank you again. Amanda
Great stay, too short!!!
Great stay, too short!!!
My husband, my son, his wife and myself stayed at the lovely Casita for 5 days the first of June, 2010. Everything was just what we were expecting or much better. Amanda was extremely helpful. Caye Caulker is a wonderful place, and you can bet we want to return. We loved the Rainbow Bar and Grill along with several other places. The pool was a delightful place to cool off. Our biggest gripe was, "NOT ENOUGH time"!!!

Absolute paradise! A truly welcoming space with outstanding service!!
Absolute paradise! A truly welcoming space with outstanding service!!
The listing doen't do the property, the island, or the host justice. It was top notch all the way around. For our wedding / honeymoon, my husband and I along with friends and family rented a few properties on the island a while back (and not through vrbo - I'm a newbie to this webspace). This island was perfect for our sensibilities (San Pedro - yes, of the Madonna song - to the north is great if you like being a bit busier, but Caye Caulker is where it's at if you really want to sit back and relax. That being said, activities are not out of reach - the reef is ~1 mile off shore with fabulous diving and snorkeling (thanks Carlos!) and there are tours inland available from here, too. Restaurants (super!) and Internet are available, but the markets (and our own catch-of-the-day - thanks to Wilbur) meant we spent a lot of time in the fabulous kitchen. It truly felt like home. I don't think I could have had a more perfect wedding. We were only 11, but the host / people on the island (locals or imports) all treated us like family. It made the event and all the days around (3 weeks in total), comfortable. From young to old (as there was quite an age range amongst us), we all agree that Caye Caulker and this Casita is the place to be! GO SLOW!

About the owner: Arrived on Caye Caulker in 1999, youngish and clueless! Loved it and over time (10 years) managed to buy the land, build the first home, and generally get my act together. I try not to get in your way - but feel free to holler!
