My husband and I spent Christmas at this wonderful cabin and it was the most memorable Christmas we have shared. We cut our own Christmas tree in the National Forest after obtaining a permit. The fresh pine smell filled the cabin bringing back fond childhood memories. Before attending a Christmas eve serivce at the Baptist Church in Salida, we had dinner at the Laughing Ladies which is my favorite resturant in Salida. They make the best fried chicken. Thats saying alot since we are from the home Kentucky Fried Chicken. We had snow on Christmas day which was beatiful as well as providing some fresh snow at Monarch . The sking is always fun and everyone is so friendly .The cabin was very comfortable and clean. They had put alot of thought into buidling and decorating it. The best cabin we have found in Salida by far. The owners were great to rent from.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Denise and David, Thank you for the review. I am glad that your stay was a pleasant one. We do work hard to try and make sure you do enjoy your stay. Look forward to seeing you again. Dean

This cabin is a gem. Every Autumn I rent a place in the mountains, and this is overall the nicest cabin I've found. It feels very remote and isolated, yet is 10 minutes from all that Salida has to offer. I recommend Little Cambodia restaurant and Moonlight Pizza (both right downtown). You are close to so many great hiking trails - try the Monarch Crest trail if you haven't before. Everything was clean and in working order. You can see deer and foxes from your window almost every evening. My only regret is that I didn't come a few weeks earlier, since most of the leaves are gone by now. The owners are the nicest people, and obviously take pride in their rental. Thanks Dean and Dana for sharing your place.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: One of the benefits to having the rental cabins is all of the nice folks you get to meet. I hope my luck continues to hold.

We just enjoyed a week at The Post Office Ranch Log Cabin, and as a rental property owner, I would give it 10 stars if VRBO allowed it! It is a great location, breathtakingly beautiful views, VERY nicely decorated, very well equipped and furnished. The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met. They take great pride and concern with their property, and it shows. I am VERY happy to recommend P.O. Log Cabin, and look forward to our return visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

These are very beautiful cabins set in a very beautiful place. Full kitchens, BBQ grills outside, lovely decorations inside, VERY nice cabins. Spent a lot of time on the porch which looks out across a beautiful meadow to a couple of 13000 ft peaks about 2 miles away. Breathtaking view. Owners are super nice and very accomodating. Would definitely recommend this place. Salida has nice restaurants, a Wal-Mart and a Safeway so you can eat out or cook at the cabins. Took a drive over to Monarch Pass and rode the tram to the top. Awesome view. Good fishing. Saw deer and a barn lion. Could see some snow on the surrounding mountains but no perma-frost.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My time at the Post Office Ranch was incredible. I've stayed at the best hotels in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and New Orleans and they don't come close! The decor inside is beautiful and the view from your deck or from your giant picture window is wonderful. The cabins are conveniently close to Salida while at the same time giving the sense of being completely away from the lights and sounds of town. The hosts are very friendly and accomodating and have a great knowledge of the area. I highly recommend the Post Office Ranch to anyone looking for a spectacular getaway in the gorgeous Colorado Rockys. I love visiting this area, and this will be where I stay from now on!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed the cabin. Come back and try out our new cabin it is just as nice.

My husband and I spent a month at PO Ranch Road cabin hiking almost every morning, taking in local festivals (FibArk), swimming in Salida, and looking at the beautiful mountains. Being from the East we relished the open space and the lack of humidity. It was truly a time of rest and relaxation. Our hosts could not have been more gracious and provided everything we could have possibly needed - even tools for a little work on the car! We met their family and felt that we were not just guests but friends. The cabin had everything that we needed and more. It was perfectly clean. Having horses, cattle, and dogs around made our stay feel that we were experiencing the "real" Colorado. We haven't done all the hikes in the area, so I am hopeful that we will return. And, I never saw any of the elusive Elk that I had hoped to see. We did see deer, foxes, marmots, lots of different chipmunks, and birds.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We went skiing in Monarch, and we stayed at the cabin (4 adults and 3 kids most of the stay)! It was very comfortable and relaxing... The drives to Salida and to Monarch were quick, and it was a perfect location for each. We stayed the entire week and loved the decor and the room for everyone. The only thing we would have enjoyed is a TV upstairs for the kids or more room in the living room to sit, as we spent most of the evenings in the cabin after skiing from 5pm on through the night with 7 people watching movies and playing games. We would love to go back to the Ranch and spend time there in the summer or again in the winter! It was "hands-down" the best family vacation we have had! THANKS SO MUCH!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am happy that your family had a good time. I am in the process of building a new cabin and from your comments have decided to put a TV upstairs in the new cabin for kids to make more room for larger families.

We stayed in the cabin at the Post Office Ranch in December 2011 for 4 days. It was such a great choice! The owner is so helpful and friendly. The cabin is beautiful, comfortable and perfect in every way. It is far enough off the highway to be secluded and quiet but close enough to be convenient. The logs and cabin decor give the lodge/rustic feel while also being comfortable and modern. It has everything you need from dishes, blankets, fire pit, dishwaher, cleaning supplies, washer/dryer and a wonderful pellet stove. The beds are very comfortable and everything was so clean. It is in a great location as it is only 6 miles from Salida and 13 from the ski mountain. The ranch is beautiful and the scenery out of the big living room window is beautiful. The wrap around porch and chairs are great! It is also so nice to be able to walk around along the stream and experience the surroundings. We hope to go back in the summer to fish! There was only one thing I would change for our family of 5 and that would be maybe a little more seating in the living area. However we were there in winter and were mostly inside at night playing games/watching tv - I am sure in the summer this wouldn't be an issue. It definitley wouldn't keep me from staying there again - we made due just fine sitting on the floor or at the dining room table. You can't go wrong staying here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Is always satisfying when families enjoy their stay. I am considering ways to get more seating in the living area. In the new cabin am planning on another T.V. upstairs.

We stayed at the ranch the first week of August, 2011. A really beautiful and serene location--the cabin is beautifully built and outfitted, and is really clean. You sit on the large deck that looks over a meadow with a path that leads to the river, and you can see the mountains on all sides. You can't see the river, but you can hear it bubbling along. Truly beautiful spot to sit for morning coffee or afternoon visits. The trout pond is amazing--be sure to watch the owner feed the fish in the late afternoon. One toss and you have a trout on your line (catch and release). The firepit outside the door makes for good family talk as you munch 'smores. Be sure to visit the town of Salida: go to the river and watch the kids floating on tubes and the kayakers coming down the river. Or be brave, and jump in yourself to paddle around! Really good base for visiting Royal Gorge, Monarch Pass, or for rafting and fishing. I guess there is more to do, but we ran out of time. The owners will do everything they can do provide a good visit, so don't hesitate to ask. And, oh yes, it is a real ranch with cows, horses, dogs, fields, and even a cute cat that sometimes follows you around like a puppy. We will go back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the review. It is a good feeling when a stay at the Post Office Ranch results in a positive experience. I look forward to seeing you next year if not sooner.

Spent four wonderful days there in July. Cabin is absolutely beautiful and very comfortably appointed. Sparkling clean. If sitting in one of the gliding rockers with a view of the pasture out the front window doesn't lower your blood pressure nothing will! Wonderfully cool breezes through the windows at night with plenty of blankets if it gets chilly. Plenty of comfortable deck furniture to relax in on the porch while bird or horse or cow watching. If you like trout fishing the Little Arkansas River is just a short stroll across the pasture and features wild brown trout that fight like crazy. I loved it! Dean, the owner, is glad to give tips on what to fish with. He also gave good advice about good fishing sites on the Arkansas River which is only a short drive from the cabin. If you like to hike you can ask Dean about hiking over Roberts hill and up an ATV trail into national forest just South of the property. It has beautiful views of the valley and not another sole in sight. We had a wonderful and very full four days. You will want to stay longer. We sure did.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is always a pleasure to have Dave and Lynn stay with us. I am glad that their stay was enjoyable and look forward to seeing them next year. Dean

We had a wonderful stay at the Post Office Ranch log cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and was very comfortable and quite charming. It was so relaxing having our morning coffee on the porch looking out at the surrounding mountains and the horses and cows on the ranch. We were also able to do all the activities in the area (rafting, zip-lines, biking, hiking) without driving more than 30 minutes. We plan on returning for a future trip!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. Your review is very important in helping me provide a quality vacatiion get-away. One of the joys of having the cabin is when people stay and have a good time. Dean

Review: Mu husband and I spent a long relaxing weekend at the Post Office Ranch with my parents this spring. The cabin is well equipped and very peaceful. We really enjoyed watching the horses in the field through the giant picture window. Even though it was rainy and snowy for much of our stay, the cabin was so cozy we didn't care about the weather. When the sun did poke through, the views were amazing. We would certainly recommend the Post Office Ranch to anyone looking for a quiet place to relax with great access to the mountains and Salida. Take care, LeahDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
