We stayed here in June, 2012. The house was better than described. The library was a real treat with an eclectic array of subjects & titles. We really enjoyed beginning & ending our days sitting under the huge evergreen in the yard. There was an abundance of wildlife, including a fox who passed through the yard as if she owned it. We highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys peace, quiet, &seclusion Pete & KatRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We rented this property for Aug./Sept. to be near our children and grandkids in Greenfield. We loved it! The house has everything you could possibly need. Wonderful layout and very comfortable. My husband loved the bookcases in every room as did my grandchildren during "quiet time". Jeff, the property manager, was always available if we had any questions. Walks by the river and in the upper pastures were relaxing and gave us all a chance to unwind. Trips to Northampton and Shelbourne Falls, antiquing, exploring, swimming, rock collecting, pumpkin carving, apple picking - we did it all! There are several great farm markets nearby - Hager's, Pine Hill orchard and Apex. You will not be disappointed with your stay. Enjoy!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

this place was recommended by a friend as a great weekend getaway. Communication was easy and clear. the house is beautiful and roomy, and the location perfect for my needs. My 4-month old was very happy there, and it accommodated 4 adults as well. (Could accommodate at least two more.) Went for a beautiful run by the river, and enjoyed nearby town of Shelburne Falls.Recommended for: Families with young children.

We had a fantastic New Years in this lovely home. The owner was super friendly and accommodating and answered all our questions about the house prior to renting it. The house is very comfortable with two cozy living rooms on the first floor, one with a fireplace (and plenty of seasoned wood). The kitchen was very well stocked with knives, cutting boards, dishes, herbs, and lots of counter space for a foodie getaway and the kitchen table is a great gathering space for leisurely meals and card games. We went for hikes along the snowy fields and down to the river. We also went into downtown Shelburne Falls, which is about 20-30 minutes away and definitely worth the trip for some cute window shopping (Molly Cantor pottery is a favorite), the bridge of flowers (though not in winter), and the glacial potholes. The master bedroom is huge, with a very comfortable bed and beautiful light in the morning. There are bookshelves in every room, which make the house feel very homey. The caretaker also went out of his way to explain how everything worked and make us feel welcome and comfortable. We will definitely be returning to this great escape.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We stayed at this home over the Christmas holidays and had a wonderful time. The house is spacious and welcoming, with a fully-equipped kitchen, a cozy book-lined study with a working fireplace, a comfortable living room, and large, nicely-furnished bedrooms upstairs with magnificent views of the woods and hills surrounding the house. We spent a lot of time exploring the fields and hills behind the house, which were made doubly beautiful by fresh snow. The house is nicely maintained, and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to make sure our stay was everything we had hoped for. We would gladly return some day, and hope that others will get the chance to experience the magic in this setting.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Max is a retired school professor and his wife, Joan, an artist and writer, own the property. We sought a second home in the country for summers and holidays as well as to experience a different lifestyle from our urban life in Brooklyn. Upon retirement, this became our permanent home. The original house (which was build in 1825) burned down and was totally rebuilt in the similar style, in 1990. We now live in California for most of the year so we can be close to our grandchildren.
Why the Owner Chose Shelburne Falls:
We wanted lots of nature and we got it. Mountains, the river, open skies and our garden are the highlights. Great memories were created for our family here: swimming in the river, reading by the fire, hiking on our property, and great meals with fresh food from the local farmer's market.
