Beautifully restored Casa Ucelli (House of the Birds) is a unique and quite stunning 13 coned trulli complex and lamia. The Casa is located along a short but ambience filled 'unfinished' system of Puglian style roads in classic Italian style meandering through olive groves. Casa Ucelli feels like its own private oasis although there are neighbors only a a few acres away. It is an exclusive area of Puglia offering the beauty of the olive groves and wine vineyards together with acres of Kiwi and avocado to marvel at. With a climate and earth color similar to that of a Napa Valley summer!
The 'Complex' consists of the kitchen & living room trullis with French doors spilling out to the large patio and lanai and private pool. The master bed has a queen size bed with living room area together with en-suite bathroom carved into the trulli. In the same trulli section is an additional two single bed suite with its own en-suite shower bathroom. In the next trulli set there is another two bedroom suites with sitting room area and en-suite full bathroom adjoining an additional two bedroom trulli with its own en-suite shower bathroom. There is also another trulli section with an additional living room/den with Sky TV. There is also an outside pathway carved into the walls and roof line of the house that guides the visitor up through the trulli cones to a beautiful roof terrace with stunning views across the acres of olive groves and magnificent Italian sunsets.
The house has a full alarm system and gated driveway for additional security although this is a very safe area of Italy. The private pool is heated but rarely needs to be given the wonderful Italian climate.
Casa Ucelli is in an ideal location to explore this secret and unspoilt area of Italy. Just 15 minutes from Ostuni, the 'Citte Bianca', and 45 minutes from the Baroque University City of Lecce. Martina Franca and Alborabello are an easy day trip as is Otranto, Taranto and Gallipoli. The quaint local town of San Michele is a 5 minutes drive, with small trattorias, local shops and supermarkets. Beautiful beaches of Carovigno are 30 minutes away. Casa Ucelli is unsuitable for children under 8 years as pool area is open plan.

Year Purchased: 2010
Casa Ucelli was purchased by our family in 2010. Since then it has been painstakingly restored within the original trulli cones and added some additional space to this unique home. I currently live in Boston, Mass although I am British I am married to an American. We own three vacation homes within our family all listed on VRBO - one on North Captiva island in Florida, One in Vermont and now Casa Ucelli. My family and I stayed there for the first time this summer to 'trail run' the property and have fallen in love with the area. It is quite unique and beautiful.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The sightseeing within the towns nearby particularly Lecce, Otranto, Ostuni, Alborabello and the 'Appian Way' in Brindisi are breathtaking. The house is lovely and very easy to stay in. Visiting the 'trulli' town of Alborabello was amazing (look the town up online) and extraordinary to see. The white city of Ostuni was beautiful with its stone roads and quaint tourist areas and huge plaza we enjoyed shopping in some gorgeous boutiques. Lecce is quite honestly the most beautiful European city I have visited (and I have visited quite a few and lived in Madrid for three years as well as growing up in London) - with its roman ruins, incredible cathedrals and churches, plazas with architecture that was breathtaking and refreshing parks it truly was inspiring. Driving in Italy is an adventure and we loved renting our two fiat 'zoom zoom' cars and heading out each day to have a new experience exploring. We were there in August which is 'fiesta' time so there were lots of wonderful fiesta's to go to including seeing Miss Italy fashion show being filmed in Ostuni - this is the area of Italy where the wealthy Italians from Rome and the north come to get away from the tourists up north! It is quite simply beautiful..with towns the way you would expect Italy to be. Untouched, glamorous yet historically fascinating. The restaurants are incredible, known for its mozzarella and cured meats this area is a gourmet delight.
