With its own privacy wall, beautiful garden and fishpond; the house is two large studios connected via an outside staircase. Downstairs there is also a kitchen, storeroom and attached outside bathroom. There is no common living room but the bedrooms are large. Ideal for two singles or two couples – will sleep extra on single rollout bed and/or futon sofa.
Upstairs Studio – Queen-sized bed, bedside tables, sofa/futon, coffee table, relaxing chair, computer desk, white iMac, bookshelves, armoire, water-dispenser, bathroom with shower, sink, western toilet, two small balconies, separate controlled air-conditioning, Wi-Fi Internet.

Great location – no transport necessary around the corner from Ubud Palace, Ubud Market and Nomad’s Restaurant. The house is on Jalan Sri Wedari, a short ten-minute walk to Ubud's Monkey Forest Road. See the Kecak Fire and Trance Dance performed in the neighborhood temple down the street every Wednesday and Saturday night. Two to three hundred meters up the street, rice fields surround The New Massage Spa, The New Jepun Grill and The New Ubud Green Resort. Make jewelry at our neighbor Wayan Sunarta’s ‘Chez Monique Silversmith Class’ or visit Kadek’s small warung across the street for a Coke and a snack. Grab a cup of coffee before going into town at Seniman Coffee Shop.
Kadek, our delightfully friendly 'pembantu' or house director, will take very good care of you. Kadek speaks English and can help you with any questions you may have. She works 8:30 in the morning until 12pm, Monday through Saturday. She will clean the house, change your linens, shop for you, cook breakfast and/or lunch, (please request a day ahead and you must give her money for food if she is to shop.)
Nyoman Jiwa is our driver, teacher and good friend. He will pick you up at the airport for 300,000 Rupiah – about $35 US. Nyoman also speaks excellent English and is a talented cultural guide, available to take you to any destination on Bali and beyond. He is very well versed in the history, religion and customs of Bali.
Nyoman can also provide you with a motor scooter or car to rent. Please speak with him on the ride to the house about different touring possibilities and prices.

Can't say enough great things about this place. Especially if you want a true Balinese experience. It is in a Balinese compound. They are small buildings where the parents have one, kids have one, grandparents have one etc. All in a gated beautiful compound. This place has 2 units, typical of the Balinese. In the western world we refer to them as studios. In Bali they refer to them as home. Each morning a wonderful elderly woman will put a Hindu offering on your porch, to help you have a great day. It works! If you are there long enough, the middle aged woman will invite you to visit her gorgeous rice field. You are so close to Ubud center that you can sit on the porch and enjoy the music from the palace and not pay a cent. Or you can spend 2 minutes walking the short distance to Ubud Center and get wild. The housekeeper Kadek is sweet and immaculate. Plus she cooks an incredible balinese breakfast. The driver Nyoman is way beyond awesome. There are a zillion drivers in Ubud. The difference is that Nyoman tells you about the history and cultural meanings. On the rare occasion when I hired someone else, they just dumped me off. Nyoman walked with me and explained everything. He is an incredible people person. If you wanted to talk, he could go on for hours....if you wanted silence to just enjoy, he picked up on that. If you are there for a short time, he is more than happy to show you the sights. If you are lucky enough to spend some time there, he will open Bali to you. The owners are delightful, responsive and caring. The units are a very very short distance from the town center. If you are too hot and exhausted to make the walk home, a taxi is always handy. It costs between 2 and 3 USD, depending on your battering skills. Although the unit has a cooking area, there a multitude of cheap restaurants minutes away. If you want something different Nyoman will gladly drive you, even if its across the Island. Dan and Karen are remarkable hosts. If you want affirmation, please contact me. Linda

Amazing Trip - Unforgetable!!!
Amazing Trip - Unforgetable!!!
For years several of my girlfriends and I have taken trips together throughout the US and Europe. This was, however our first trip to Indonesia and more specifically Bali. After contemplating staying in a hotel or local home, we decided on the Tidak Apa Apa house. The idea of being able to walk to town was very appealing to us but still having access to a driver ( Nyoman) if need be. We found the streets to be extremely safe, however you do need to watch where you are walking, as sidewalks in Bali are a lot more broken up than in the U.S. The home itself was exactly as described consisting of (2) large studio type rooms. Both rooms were very clean and air-conditioned which was welcoming after days of shopping or sight-seeing. Kadek, the housekeeper cooked us traditional Balinese breakfasts (you could have American also) consisting of Mei Goreng or Nasi Goreng along with fresh fruits and juices. A great way to start the day. Despite have 4 girls staying at the home, Kadek managed to keep everything neat and tidy for us. We absolutely loved chatting with her in the morning along with the family who lives on the compound in front of the Tidak Home. We found the Balinese people to be extremely friendly and I encourage people to get to know them. I guarantee they will know you before you leave. We loved sitting on the porch in the mornings and early evenings as the property is quite peaceful and relaxing (minus the early morning chickens which are a big part of Bali). We were fortunate enough to see the temple directly behind the house lit up one night which was truly a beautiful site. Do try to take the silver jewelry making class which is a couple of houses down as there is nothing like making your own gift to bring back from vacation. Getting away from the touristy restaurants, Jeppun Grill is also a great little place up the street where you can meet locals while dining on traditional Balinese fare or have a Bingtang (Local beer). It was also wonderful having Nyoman nearby to answer any questions we had or to help with recommendations for Yoga, Spa’s, temples, restaurants or really whatever we needed. Do take advantage of his knowledge and driving expertise

Tidak Apa Apa House, or Home away from Home -
What a peaceful place to stay! Bali is always moving but 'Home' was a wonderful way to begin and end our day. Nyoman checked in on us, provided suggestions as needed and is the best driver in Indonesia. Kadek kept the home clean, a tasty breakfast each morning + pleasant conversation. A Bali "must do" list - • Batik dying lessons • Wayang Kulit Puppet Show • Balinese Dance Show • Nyoman's tour to NW Bali including Rice terrace Coffee Plantations, Mt. Batur and Lake Batur. •Kadek's black rice pudding •Beach - Not Kuta - unless you like garbage and vendors! The Balinese are very friendly, make friends in the compound and on Sri Wedari. Enjoy! Tidak Apa Apa!

A lovely house to stay in!
A lovely house to stay in!
A wonderful house to stay in, very well presented, airconditioning, and best of all - HOT water!! Really neat and tidy and clean - enjoyed the breakfast cooked for us on the first day and it was very convenient having a kitchen. The only negatives - while it is central to UBUD it is a little walk up the street off the main road and the cocks do crow a bit in the area -otherwise really beautiful would really recommend it!!

A perfect vacation experience
A perfect vacation experience
My wife and I like to stay away from commercial hotel tourist places. Tidak Apa Apa House could not have been better for us. It is literally living in a Balinese community in an authentic Bali compound on a side street in Ubud. We could walk to a main street (very safe) in 5-10 mins or catch a cab from anywhere. The rooms were clean, air conditioned, spacious with lots of hot or cold water as many times a day as needed. Any amenities not present in a tourist hotel were greatly overshadowed by the comfort and quiet of staying in an Ubud residential neighborhood at a third of the price charged nearby. The housekeeper/cook Kadek arrived everyday to provide a smile and wonderful, simple Balinese (or Western if you insist) breakfast. She is a source of information and is very happy to meet whatever needs you may have while staying here. As mentioned as a possibility on the website, Nyoman jiwa met us at the airport and ferried us to the house. Attention travelers, unless you have been to Bali before, you really want to have an expert driver, guide, counselor to negotiate what is a magnificent, but very foreign culture. I would not consider renting a car (or scooter) on this island where the roads are narrow, people are everywhere, signs unclear and rules of the road very regional. Nyoman gave us insights into his island that would not have been found on our own or reading a guide book. He is a slightly more expensive than you could get otherwise, but worth every Rupiah. Must do's within walking distance from the house were Nomad's, Jeppun and Devilicious restaurants, and the coffee shop on the street. You can eat very well, for very little by Western standards in Ubud. Just ask Nyoman. Trips requiring a car included Basikih (mother temple), the water temple and several day trips for scuba diving. The rates at these hotels were $35-40 USD per night including breakfast. Nyoman can arrange the dives with Wyan, master dive guide and great guy. Sidebar: it is worthwhile buying a sarong and sash to visit the temples. These are required anyway, inexpensive, serve as a reminder of the trip and can be used on tables at home. In summary, my wife and I are already planning our next trip to Ubud where we will stay at the Tedak Apa Apa House and be accompanied by our guide and new friend, Nyoman jiwa.

About the owner: We live in Southern California and holiday on Bali as often as possible. This is our residence when in Bali. I've worked in Bali as a volunteer English Teacher and can speak - some - Bahasa Indonesia. We also enjoy dining, scuba diving and photography. Please feel free to call or e-mail for more information.
Why the Owner Chose Ubud:
Normally we can only spend 2 to 4 weeks in Bali and enjoy going out to eat and sightseeing around the Island. This location is VERY close to all shopping, dining, entertainment in Ubud which saves a lot of time driving back and forth. Also it is centrally located on Bali for sightseeing on the rest of the Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We fell in love with Ubud and decided to lease a house there. The people in Bali are very friendly and fun, when deciding where to live we wanted to enjoy a 'Balinese experience' and our house is in the back of a Balinese family compound. There are 7 Balinese in the family, which actually is a small family in Bali - 2 Grandparents, 2 parents and 3 children. The family speaks some English and is very friendly, except Ranita who is shy! Our landlord is the General Manager of Nomad's Restaurant right up the street and around the corner. His name is Made Sudarma he is one of the son's of the elder couple and lives around the corner. Made speaks very good English.
