Our stay at this unit was very nice. The few slight problems that arose were addressed by the owner promptly. This condo is very close to the beaches, pools, walking paths and makes the entire island very accessible from this location. Some deep cleaning would improve this unit to a five star position but overall it was very nice. Lots of beach toys, well equipped kitchen and now a new, much needed, dryer. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Owner response: Thanks for your kind words, Sue. We will be there in a month and will have a deep cleaning done at a time which will not inconvenience our guests, and we also plan to replace the TV and entertainment console and some other items. Almost every guest has rated our place 5 Stars and we really want it to be unquestionably a "5 Star" experience!
Beautiful & Breezy
Beautiful & Breezy
My fiance and I just had a relaxing Kauai getaway and loved staying in this condo! The kitchen is open, beautiful and has lots of light. The living room is spacious with comfy leather furniture. There are spectacular views, both on the ground level and from the upstairs balcony. It's a very short walk to the beach, so we went at least once every day. We also walked over to the Grand Hyatt for drinks and went on a couple of great nature hikes just past the hotel. We will definitely stay here again and have already inspired another couple to go there with their two children early next year.

Owner response: Many thanks! Just the way we feel about our lovely condo.
The unit is in a state of neglect, is poorly maintained, the furnishings are decrepit, the "gourmet" kitchen might have been such 20-30 years ago, but those appliances that work do so on their last legs and there is neither a pantry nor storage space for renters' groceries. The bathroom faucets leak, the rugs are filthy and the dishes and pots/pans are dirty. The unit is way overpriced and the owner obviously uses it for a "cash cow," not spending the money and effort necessary to maintain it properly. We truncated our intended seven night stay after two nights, moved elsewhere and disputed the rental charge with our credit card company after receiving a partial refund from the owner, and filed a complaint with VRBO. We spoke with previous renters (they returned to pick up forgotten possessions) who echoed our impression. This unit is not anywhere near on par with nicer units in the same complex, contrary to what the owner claims. Do not trust this owner!

Owner response: My heart goes out to those who deal with this individual. We have a beautiful unit in a lovely location. The vast majority of our guests have loved our condo and none other than him have ever contended that we should reduce the rent to the absurdly low rate of $75/night or face severe consequences. Yes, there was a leaky faucet, for which we apologize, and it could happen anywhere.

Beautiful & Relaxing
Beautiful & Relaxing
We stayed for a week in February 2013. The condo was very comfortable and well-equipped. We ended up eating in almost every night, using the grill on the lawn area out back for steaks and fish. Breakfast was waffles and fresh fruit from the farmer's market. We boogie boarded every day using the gear in the closet. Our kids really enjoyed the pools, especially the bigger one with the hot tub, although the view from Manualoha pool is incredible, so the grownups prefer that one. This trip was so relaxing we hardly used the car. We spent most days at the beach and the pools, with a few jaunts into town for groceries and ice cream cones. We saw lots of whales from Poipu park, and also dolphins, turtles, seals.. it was thrilling. The bed in the master is very comfortable and the fans do a great job of keeping the place cool. The air in Hawaii is so much fresher than it is here in California. My tips are to visit the Grand Hyatt for drinks at sunset- the evening we went had a free hula show, and get produce from the tiny farmers stand on Poipu road and local grass fed beef from the Kukiliula market.

Peaceful and Convenient
Peaceful and Convenient
As first time travelers to Kauai, with two young children in tow, we were hoping for a nice mixture of convenience and privacy. This townhome was a perfect location for us. A quick walk to the baby beach and snorkeling, with a view of the ocean from the upstairs balcony, it was lovely. The house was stocked with gear-- boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, sand toys, beach chairs, tons of beach towels. Also, bookshelves full of great travel guides and island history. It was also a plus to be able to put the kids to bed on the ground level and in the evening relax with the breeze and night sounds upstairs. Really great star gazing opportunities from the blcony as well, which has a couple of nice lounge chairs. Quiet, clean, well-maintained, friendly people, we highly recommend it. Great instructions and lots of tips from the ownres. They even mailed me my favorite pair of jeans I accidentally left behind! We'll be back!

Owner response: Many thanks. It's always so nice to get these wonderful reviews. We do try hard to please our guests and hope they enjoy our lovely townhome on Kauai!
Large condo w great views of beach. Close access as advertised. Spacious upstairs w/ somewhat dated look ("Miami Vice look") per young adults ~ 30 yrs. BBQ had no gas. Dishes were put away dirty. Second bedroom was small. Twin beds were not converted to king as requested. No bed conversion pad was available as advertised. This made for a frustrating sleeping situation for young couple. Beds converted to maybe queen but not king size as advertised. Bed was appropriate for children. Nice to have beach toys available. Baths were nice. Price/value seemed high for what we experienced. One of four condos we rented on our Kauai vacation and the most expensive and least impressive unit of our visit. Advertising inconsistent with what we experienced. Not appropriate for two couples. Recommend for family with small children. Would request a partial refund ($75 per night) to compensate for inaccurate advertising and disappointing experience. I booked this so far in advance that I had many other alternatives at similar or lower prices. For example, our other Manualoha condo was more impressive at a significantly lower price point. Our standards are pretty high as this is our fourth visit to Manualoha condos complex and fifth visit to our favorite Hawaiian island. We own a luxury ski condo in Idaho that we also rent out so we are very experienced with the vacation condo business. College professor and retired high-tech executive. Mahalo!

Owner response: This review is so much different from the wonderful things said by virtually every one of our other guest that we wonder if it is about one of the other four units they rented! It could be, as we do not have a decor like the one they describe (see photos) and do not directly overlook the beach, but have views of the water (not the beach) through palm trees on the greenbelt. Also, neither we nor our caretaker was advised of any of the issues they now complain about-- the bed, if it wasn't made to a queen, could easily have been fixed by our caretaker very quickly. The gas grill -- never before reported as not having gas and checked every evening by a groundskeeper -- could have been fixed by asking one of the ever present groundsmen to replace the tank. Etc., etc. If this review is really about our lovely and beautifully located unit, we just don't believe most of it and find it to be a mean spirited effort to get a discount.
Relaxing in Paradise
Relaxing in Paradise
A very peaceful spot - relaxing with easy access to the pool and beach. Comfortable chairs on downstairs porch and upstairs lanai make it easy to enjoy the Kauai outdoors. Great location for golfers as well. The condo is very well equipped with electronic equipment, computer access, beach towels, board games, books, kitchen (including spices), etc. It was immaculate and the beds are very comfortable. We recommend it highly and look forward to a return visit.

WiFi does workGuest comment entered by owner
WiFi does work
We just returned. The WiFi is working. The problem was that someone had turned off the wall switch (taped down, with a message, not to change its position) that controls a key electrical outlet . We taped it down even tighter, with a red tape. I am posting this message because of the review that mentions it did not work-- although this review is 5 stars out of 5, it seems like the most negative we have ever gotten. Our guess is that the problem with the wifi affected their whole attitude toward our lovely condo. Please down further! It is a beautiful unit in a lovely location with a great kitchen full of high-end utensils and equipment. Sincerely, Bob and Laura

About the owner: We first visited Poipu Kai in 1985. We have stayed at several places in Kauai and liked the Maunaloha section of Poipu Kai the most. We first saw our vacation home in 1999 at the invitation of the prior owner, and we rented it several times before we bought it. It is in the most spacious location of the most spacious condominium development, opening onto a lovely sweeping expanse of grass and tropical plantings, with a view of sunsets over Brennecke's Beach. (Our unit is close to the beach end of the large open area of the Poipu Kai resort shown on the Google map.) When we are more fully retired we plan to spend several months a year in this paradise. Please read our guest reviews to better understand why we love this unit so much. It is truly a unique and exquisite place. Very sincerely, Bob and Laura Venning
Why the Owner Chose Manualoha:
The Manualoha section of Poipu Kai is a uniquely open and spacious development, with ample grass and our building has exceptionally broad exposures of grass and lovely landscaping leading to the beach. It is unlike any other condominium development we have seen on Kauai, with lovely plantings, finely maintained grounds and with nine tennis courts and ample swimming facilities.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
A few steps to the sparkling private pool for Manualoha residents and only a few more steps to the beach. We often stop off at the Manualoha pool after snorkeling at the beach-- a quick fresh water shower a dip, and a rest in a chaise lounge overlooking the beach before enjoying some time on the lanai at our condominium!
