Heartwood House is a beautiful, hand-crafted, post and beam home, located a short walk from the picturesque village of Eastsound on Orcas Island. The Island Cedar, Alder, and Madrona woods used to build Heartwood create a warm and welcoming feeling as soon as you enter the house. You can relax on the deck or in the great room while enjoying a serene southerly view of Fishing Bay.
Heartwood is an ideal destination for vacations, family reunions, workshops, and retreats. Gather family and friends at this lovely waterview home for memorable vacations and celebrations. The great room features an open floor plan with two wood burning stoves. There’s a high definition plasma flat panel TV (basic channels), Sony DVD player, high speed wireless internet, a CD player with CD library and I-pod docking speaker system.
The kitchen is an ideal space to create meals with all the appliances and amenities needed to feed a crowd. A natural cedar deck runs around the rear and side of the house and incorporates a Sauna, Hot Tub, and Firepit. We can arrange for your every need - an in-home massage, a chef, or extra housekeeping during your stay.
We are family and pet friendly! There’s a high chair, port-a-crib and baby gates available making Heartwood House a great place to bring little ones. The Heron Garden is gated and we have a small kiddie pool you can fill for the toddlers. And we permit up to two (2) family dogs, with additional pet fee and refundable deposit.
Heartwood House is non-smoking and has two (2) bedrooms with Queen and Twin beds, plus an art room with twin beds; two (2) full baths and can sleep up to 6 adults.
Our property is a perfect venue for family reunions, retreats and wedding party gatherings. If you will be coming with a larger group, we can assist you with finding additional accomodations within walking distance of Heartwood House.
If you will be hosting more guests than those registered, there is an additional use fee of $350 for each week, plus an additional refundable Security Deposit of $300.
We are able to offer onsite service, with tables and chairs, place settings, catering and such, for an additional fee. Please call Gretchen and we can discuss your needs.

Heartwood House has been a vacation destination since 1995. I was enchanted by the unique features when I first saw the house in 1988 and wanted a beautiful, safe community to raise my three children. It's a magical home that calls forth imagination and creativity for all who gather here.

It's an easy walk into Eastsound, the main village on Orcas. You can play on the public beach and when the tide's right, walk out to Indian Island. Young and old get a chance to explore and discover Nature's grace in the tidepools, hiking in Moran State Park and playing at Cascade Lake.

We spent a wonderful week at Heartwood House - it was perfect - all the amenities and then some. Along with what others wrote, it is a very good base to explore Orcas from. There was lots of charm and comfort and beyond our expectations. Bravo and we hope to return again soon!

The Heartwood house is beautiful! We walked in and were so pleased with our choice. We had two families stay at the house very comfortably. The kitchen is great and has everything that you need. We sat on the back deck and had our coffee in the morning and drinks at cocktail hour. The setting is perfect for a family get together or reunion, or just a week away. It is close to enough to walk to town, yet it still has a tranquil, quiet feeling. We had other friends stop by in the evening and the house is very conducive to gatherings. The kids keep asking when we can go back and stay there--and we have our own place on the island!!! They prefer this house!

This was an excellent house and in great shape. The photos of this house did not do it justice. The description describing the location near Eastsound was good and important. It was easy to walk to get to the town and fun. The house had so many good qualities: comfortable, well-maintained, stocked nicely, clean, very attractive, with a nice yard. It was a lovely place to stay and I would recommend it to friends or return there.

This house is incredible! I rented it for a weekend getaway with my closest friends and it was even better than the pictures. The house was incredibly spacious and comfortable for our group. There is a full kitchen to make delicious dinners in or you can walk the half mile into town to dine at one of the many restaurants. Later in the evening there is a massive hot tub and fire pit out back for lounging. It was everything we were hoping for on our little getaway. I will definitely be coming back again!

What a beautiful home, lots of space for privacy yet wonderful gathering places. Warm and inviting, sunny and bright within walking distance to town, park and beach with great restaurants and shops close by. Great kitchen facilities, hot tub and comfy beds. Would highly recommend.

I highly recommend staying at Heartwood House on Orcas. I got married there in 2007; the house and grounds hold a very special place in my heart. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the living areas are warm and welcoming, the hot tub and sauna are a relaxing treat, and the location close to Eastsound is perfect! Our families thoroughly enjoyed staying at Heartwood and as a wedding venue it was wonderful :)
