We very much enjoyed the entire experience at Beech Lodge. The property is lovely and away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. We drove to several destinations such as The Wokey Hole, The village of Cheddar, and down to the Beaulieu Car Museum. None of the drives were too long and all were through the lovely English countryside. The only odd thing about the listing comes from the fact that Americans count the ground floor as the first floor. So we were surprised to find stairs... but that's kind of a funny thing, not a good or bad thing. Another thing we wished we had done more of while staying in this location is going to the pub. We waited until the last night to eat out (cooking was easy in the little kitchen) and then we were a little sorry we didn't try the restaurant earlier as we saw many tempting dishes being served to the tables around us. Plus we struck up conversations with patrons sitting at the bar and that made us feel welcome and at home. All in all, we are sure you will enjoy your stay at Beech Lodge because it is a little jewel.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Beech Lodge was lovely. The Lodge is located in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance of the local pub/resturant. The accomodations were fresh, clean and very comfortable. All the essentials were provided. The hosts were charming and helpful. Everything at the property was as described and pictured on the VRBO site. It is centrally located to numerous historical sites/cities,Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

What a wonderful place to stay to explore the Salisbury/Winchester area of England!!! David and Annie were perfect hosts - the apartment was quiet, spotless, modern furnishings, fully stocked, including a starter supply of goceries. This was particularly appreciated as we were arriving from the US, and did not have to rush to grocery shop. There are many diverse things to see and do within a short distance. Also, a walking trail called the Test Way is literally steps away from the lodge. There is also a tavern called the King's Arms in walking distance that has both a rustic pub, and a gourmet dining room that we greatly enjoyed. This is truely the place to stay if you want to experience life in a small country town in southern England.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I spent three nights at Beech Lodge in September, 2011. Our plans changed several times during the planning process, and Annie was so gracious and helpful throughout. The accommodations are wonderful--very clean, comfortable and welcoming, with lovely views all around. The countryside is beautiful, and there are many interesting things to see nearby. We especially enjoyed Stonehenge and Mottisfont Abbey, as well as the interesting churches in the area. David and Annie couldn't have been more gracious--we felt like we were staying at the home of friends. They were never intrusive but always ready to help with questions regarding the area sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Beech Lodge, and hope to return someday soon. We heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in this beautiful area. Thank you again, David and Annie! We had such a wonderful time, and are so glad to have met you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My wife and two year old son just returned from three nights at the Beech Lodge. What an incredible experience. Here's why: -the location is in the English countryside with little rivers and hills everywhere. Just breathtaking. -David and Annie, the owners, are some of the friendliest and most inviting people around. They love people and it was such a blast sharing a glass of wine with them when we arrived. We knew immediately that this was the right place for us. -the lodge is cozy, beautifully decorated, luxurious, and well stocked with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. All the appliances are new and the bathroom has an excellent tub AND shower. It was just more than comfortable. Plus, the backyard is so nice and well landscaped. It's just beautiful. -we took some amazing day trips right from the lodge - we visited Bath via the train which was amazing. We saw Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Avesbury, Marlborough etc. The location again is unreal - it's such a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of London. -the local pub (about a 3min walk) is excellent. Plus there are numerous little villages, pubs, and restaurants in the vicinity. Finding a good time isn't an issue and it's so much fun when you're with people out in the country as opposed to the city. Just a very different and more enjoyable vibe for us. -the trout fishing is incredible, but bring a fly-rod and a net. It's a little pricey to rent the gear, but if you like fishing, don't miss your chance here. We're talking big 5-7lb trout right in the area. Don't miss this place. It's a little English oasis and it's SO much better than any hotel you'll find in the area. It's like having your own little luxury cottage in southern England - one of the most mystical and beautiful places around. The history, the people, and the drives through the countryside all make for some wonderful memories. Just the kind of vacation we love!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Your cottage was perfect for our mother-daughter trip to England from the States after a horrid winter in Connecticut. Beech Lodge cottage is beautifully decorated and stocked with all the comforts of home (and without the clutter of home!) and we enjoyed going to market in Salisbury and cooking in the wonderful little kitchen. From the dormer windows in all rooms we watched the fruit trees come into glorious bloom and enjoyed the views of your splendid gardens. The location was ideal for our day trips to Salisbury and to Bath and for excursions to several National Trust properties. Thank you for your advise in helping us plan our day trips and for the useful guidebook materials. We returned refreshed and inspired but missing your friendship and the warmth of the neighborhood pubs. Hope to return someday. All the best, Karen and KirstyRecommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: So looking forward to welcoming our next overseas guests it is always so gratifying to share our beautiful holiday lodge in the Hampshire countryside. It appears that Karen and Kirsty enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having them here.

Dear Annie & David, We would like to thank you for a wonderful short break in your fantastic luxurious Lodge, you really have thought of everything and it is so warm and cosy with the brilliant shutters closed. What a joy to have the Kings Arms a 2 min walk away with its log fires and amazing food. Thank once again and we look forward to seeing you again next year. We've enjoyed a lovely pre-christmas break at Beach Lodge. The accommodation is fantastic, and was a ideal base for the two of us to explore the local area and The New Forest. Shame about the weather, but you can't have everthing! Anyway, we used the weather as our excuse for becoming "regulars" down the road at The Mill Arms. Thank you, and we'll more than likely be back again some time in the future. x x x xDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: David and I spent many years in the music business in London. We retired in 2002 and searched for the perfect retirement county in which to live out side the city. We finally found our house in the area in which we had many happy holidays with our young family. We now welcome our ever growing family and guests to a beautiful part of England.
Why the Owner Chose Salisbury:
The Test Valley in Hampshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The River Test famous for its fishing is only part of the joy of this county. We are also proud of the beautiful cities nearby which offer all that is the best of British heritage and commerce. We have excellent motorway and train links to among others London, Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge & Southampton.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
Beech Lodge is very well equipped and we consider it part of our home-we built and decorated the lodge ourselves and maintain it to a very high standard. We really enjoy meeting new people and we are on site to offer a little guidance and help for those who need it to maximise your holiday. Our guests are able to enjoy the country side right on the doorstep but within a short drive we have the New Forest ,seaside and many National Trust stately homes and gardens. For those who like shopping a short car or train journey is all that is required to the nearest town. We have an excellant pub which serves proper English beer and food within a 'stones throw'!
