Lovely, comfortable condo
Lovely, comfortable condo
We (2 55+ adults and 2 adult children) stayed at this condo for four nights in July 2011. The unit is very comfortably furnished with the potential to convert the twin beds to a king. We loved having a washer/dryer and a very fully equipped kitchen. Our picky chefs were completely satisfied with the variety of kitchen tools. The complex is quiet but conveniently located to the shopping area and beaches just down the coast. The owners were very helpful in booking our stay and providing answers to our questions. If we return to Kona we would definitely rebook for the peace of mind in knowing just what we were renting.

Very nice place; clean and lovely
Very nice place; clean and lovely
We had a very nice stay this unit in Kona Makai in January of 2011. The condo complex is centrally located in the Kailua - Kona but a little bit more towards the quiet end of the main condo strip. It's a bit too far to walk to the main shopping / dining area, but that's a plus in my book because it is so crowded at the shopping end. The condo complex is older, but very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful with lush, well-tended vegetation. Although we didn't use it very much, the pool / BBQ area for the complex was clean and pleasant, and there is a very nice view of the ocean. Overall, the complex was very quiet and felt like it's own little world. The unit itself appeared to be recently remodeled, with a spiffy kitchen and new comfortable furniture. There is very nice TV and a washer / dryer. One of the best features is that the owners have stocked a closet full of beach gear -- high-quality boogie boards, toys for tots, beach towels, beach chairs and other fun stuff. It's really nice to have all of that! The unit is quiet and is a good distance from the common area by the pool. There is small view of the ocean from the lanai, but you really have to walk up to the pool area to get a good view. One note is that the king bed in the master bedroom appears to be two twins pushed together with a king topper, which was totally fine, but there is a slight difference in the height of the two mattresses. Nothing uncomfortable, though. The owners were very helpful answering questions and forthright in all dealings. I would highly recommend this unit as a good value, especially for two bedrooms. It is very nicely done.

About the owner: Both my husband and I were both born and raised in the mountains of Colorado but fell in love with Hawaii on our first visit to the islands. After several years of visiting we decided we wanted to have a familiar place to spend time there and to be able to share it with others.
Why the Owner Chose Kona Makai:
Kona Makai is an extremely well maintained complex with beautiful grounds and numerous amenities. The complex has both permanent residents and short term vacation renters and the atmosphere is always warm and friendly.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We love to sit on the lanai and watch the sun rise over the ocean or relax at the end of the day by the pool. Whales and dolphins can frequently be seen in the waters just off the shoreline at the complex.
