I stayed here while searching for a home in Charlottesville. It was nearly perfect for my needs: Pros: Clean, well-lit, and well maintained, both in the home and the exterior of the property. Everything needed is here, including cable, phone, and internet. My dog was welcome and felt at home. There is a fenced in area for her and plenty of room to run around in the woods. Friendly neighbors. There are two wineries just down the street, and two more a bit further in Barboursville. You will feel as though you are out in the woods, while still being very close to towns. There is a series of hiking trails only a few minutes away. Plenty of cookware and a charcoal grill outside. The deck and first floor layout is good for relaxation or entertaining. If you like sleep number beds, the master bedroom bed is nice and has two selectors. Wood floors and the large bedrooms are nice touches. Cons: The area water has high iron content. Joan helps mitigate this with a water softening system. As with any place north of Charlottesville, it can take time to get to downtown or the other side of town. It is a pretty quick drive to stores and restaurants on the north side of town and even quicker to Ruckersville, but the constant upgrades and expansion along Hwy 29 make for a longer commute (approx 30 min). This will be inconsequential once the new bypass is complete. Expect to dine at a large kitchen island counter as opposed to a traditional table. Cell phone reception is week. I cannot vouch for how great is is as a one or two night vacation, but it is superb for stays of a week or longer. There is a definite feel of "getting away from it all" and I would stay again.Owner response: Thank you so much for your review.

We stayed here through January-February 2012 to enjoy a new granddaughter--and the mild VA winter (compared to western NY). This is a great home for a weekend or months-long stay. The upstairs is entirely a master bedroom/bath suite, with a crib and chaise lounge in addition to a Sleep Number mattress. The first floor has two bedrooms (one twin beds, one queen) on opposite ends of the house and a full bath-- great for extended family and guests. The LR looks out on the woodsy backyard and has space for family gatherings, along with a computer desk that was much-used. Wi-Fi access is slower due to the distance from C'ville, but we were still able to use iPad and laptops. The kitchen is very well-equipped, complete with any spices you'll need and generous pantry space, and an island eating area we enjoyed. The area is heavily wooded and private, but still only 7 minutes from a good grocery store (on 29 N.), 15 minutes from the airport and great dog park (Chris Greene Lake Park) and 20-30 minutes from theaters, ethnic restaurants, the Downtown Mall, Monticello and UVA. Wonderful sightseeing, even if you've been here before. Friendly neighbors on our dog-walks, and great hiking (and horseback/mtn biking) trails at the Preddy Creek Trail Park less than 2 minutes by car. Great value for the price.Owner response: We thank you so much for your stay and hope you will visit again! Thank you for being such great guests!

We completely enjoyed staying at this roomy, comfortable wooded home. It had everything we needed to have a wonderful family extended weekend to celebrate my daughter's graduation. So serene and peaceful in the middle of beautiful country just right for long walks, runs, etc. The rental process was smooth and the home lived up to the description - will certainly use it again!Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful stay at this house. It is all around spacious; the kitchen is wonderful and there is so much room. We stayed for a week in the October, and the drive is gorgeous. It is close to the Charlottesville airport and a bunch of fantastic wineries. We also drove some of the Blue Ridge Mountain road while we were there. I would highly recommend a visit! You'll love it.Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful comment on Woodrock Lodge. I hope you come back again! We just put in a new washer, dryer ,phone, lockbox and a new roof is going on Nov 7,2011. We love it when our guests enjoy our home as much as we do!

We stayed in this most accommodating home for five weeks while awaiting and then celebrating the birth of our first grandchild. As family and friends dropped in from various parts of the country, we offered a warm environment in which to share a very special time with everyone of them. And when no one was in town, we enjoyed the perfect Virginia woods get-away.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am so happy to hear when my guests enjoy my little piece of tranquility and nature as much as I do!

The two weeks here were beautiful! Snow for Christmas and the few days before kept the kids sledding and throwing snow balls. The deer in the woods were magical and kept us all entertained. I wish I had more time to vacation in the beautiful surroundings. Far enough from everyone but close enough to the shops and city. The playground in the yard was a bonus. Our baby had to go to the hospital and UVA Hospital was great and easy to get to - a 15 minute drive. I love it up here- the air is so crisp, clean and fresh here in the mountains.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3
