SECURITY ALERT: Do not send or wire money outside the US. VRBO and all similar sites have had security issues. For this reason you need to speak with Mike or Tamara 419 522 1100, 614 975 1003, 419 566 0137 prior to payment.
The Master bed room has a jack and jill sink outside the main bath with a commode and tub/shower. It has a separate walk out onto the lanai. Two adults are very comfortable in there. I would not consider this bath handicap accessible.
Unfortunately, we can no longer claim dog-friendly status. However, therapy, assist and certified companion dogs are exempt from this rule and are welcome. You should check with your vet before bringing the dog to Sanibel or any similar area - it is not typically comfortable for dogs and ticks, fleas, insecticide and even small alligators are potential threats to dogs/cats.
we are not using the VRBO schedule page for availability listing. Please call or email for schedule. VRBO will show everything being open, schedule is kept with our office and not listed on the internet. You must speak directly to Tamara W. to schedule 419 566 0137.
The other bedroom has a full bed and a pullout bed. This room supposedly sleeps 4, but 4 adults in that room is very tight and not recommended. However, this is great for a family. Two adults and 2 kids would be fine in that room. There is no crib, but there is a device you can place between the mattresses and keep a small child in the bed. If you need an actual crib, let us know when call and will probably be able to get one with enough notice. This bathroom has a sink, commode, and tub/shower. You can turn a wheelchair in this bath.
The main area is a combined kitchen living dining area with a new flatscreen TVs/cable/DVD/VCR and is very open with two sides open glass looking out over the pool and the ocean. There are two couches and a recliner chair. You can head down the stairs, or elevator to the ground level parking lot and walk about 20 yards to one of the smaller the pools (see pic) then another 20 yards to the beach. Kitchen has electric range, microwave, coffeepot, toaster, toaster oven, blender, silverware, pots/pans and a good Paula Dean cutlery set. There are stores on the Island, but if you are coming with family or on a reasonable budget, like the rest of us, You should stop at the Publix Super Market at Sanibel Beach Place., 20321 Summerlin Road., Fort Myers, FL 33908 before crossing the causeway. If you are not form Florida Publix is a cross between a Grocery Store/Deli/Walmart/beer/wine. Unless you are coming by helicopter, you will drive past this store.
The loaner closet is to the right as soon as you walk in. It is stocked with just about everything you would need for a day down at the beach, including light fishing tackle, chairs, umbrellas etc. Please rinse everything with fresh water at the showers just off the beach as you come back though the pool area. There are two different type of towels stocked in the unit. Colored ones for the beach and plain white for inside the condo.
There are two really good gas grills (Weber) just down in the parking lot area. I have never had to wait to use them. Anything you catch, or buy can be grilled down there. The general store 'Jerry's' has excellent cuts of meats, chicken and local fish as well as pre-made skewers of just about anything you didn't get at Publix. Stone crabs are seasonal. Grill time down there can be a 'social happy hour' with other people.
The night is very quiet. The whole place seems to go to sleep around 10 pm. You will see people with flashlight on the beach after dusk. They are “shelling”. You should grab a flashlight, a shell net form the loaner closet and join them. Sanibel is the “shelling capital of the world'. Additionally, a whole other world of creatures come out at night and swim in the tide pools. There is just one rule – do not take live shells. Anything with a live clam, shrimp, or crab in it must be handled briefly and returned gently. The Florida Fish & Wildlife will periodically check and they have no sense of humor about protecting live shells, beyond that- take a bag of shells home.
If you use a wheelchair, the elevator works just fine, the doors are at least 31 inches, the hallway, kitchen, and baths are tile. You may find a manual chair hard to push on the deep shag carpet. You can reach the beach on all paved surfaces but you will need to go through the pool area to reach the beach, then 30 yards to the water (depending on tide) great restaurants on the island.
If you say more than a week, you will probably get at least one thunderstorm - this is true anywhere in Florida - they can be loud and scary but are gone in 20 minutes. After a storm is the best time to look for shells on the beach.
Keywords: Modern, Upgraded, Tommy Bahama Decor, Full Kitchen, beach activities, beach fishing, family friendly- very safe, the best 'shelling' in the world within 25 yards. Walk around lanai with view of beach over the pool. Lots of Bike trails, Kayak trails and historical stuff. there is a large boat that goes out of captiva to cabbage key

this is not really a senior community. many retirees are on the island and the island and Sanibel are Family friendly. seniors are usually quite comfortable here, but there are always kids around. ...moreless
Sanibel Island in general is very family friendly and this property is Kid-Friendly. Minimal traffic and no crime. It gets VERY dark at night and if out after dusk glow bracelets or lanyard lights around the neck are a great idea. If you take a trip off Island to Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach or catch the Ferry to Key West then Mom's and Dad's with little ones will need eyes in the back of their heads. Fort Myers Beach is a little more bars/clubs and SpringBreak Party Scene at night but a reasonable day trip for kids too...moreless
we are pressured by the condo assoc to be a pet free unit. But the owner does not mind small non-shedding dogs. Service or Assistance dogs are more than welcome. If your dog is not a registered companion dog and you want to bring the dog, please contact the owner - we can usually work it out. Absolutely no cats!...moreless
We do not claim to be a wheelchair adapted unit. But if you are in a wheelchair, you should be able to get around. the second bedroom has the bigger bathroom, but you will need to get over carpeting in either bedroom. there is concrete from the unit to the elevators, and all out to the edge of the sand, all the pools and main spa/restaurant. the grills and a grill area have about 20 feet of crushed stone/shells around them, but it's hard packed and you would not need to go over the grass. grill height is standard - see pics...moreless
there are NO high chair(s) in the unit, but can be arranged like a crib, playpen, the more lead time you give us the better. we can get just about anything by special arrangement/fees may apply....moreless

Many of the above water activities are found throughout the island and off the causeway coming into Sanibel. The whole island is very Bike Friendly. Within a few miles of the Shell Museum and the Ding Darling wildlife refuge center. Both and incredible tours.
The waves on Sanibel are not huge, but the intercoastal waterway has plenty of space for jet ski and any type of water activity you can imagine. rentals are not hard to find. Jensen's marina can rent a small power boat that takes you to an island called Cabbage Key. You want 'live bait' if you fish, almost any boat rental 'Jensens' or any store has live bait. You dock the boat walk the trail and get a 'cheeseburger in paradise' on the island. Then ride back and fish all along the way. Any fishing in Florida now requires a salt-water lic. 'The Bait Box' will be on your left coming into the island - get your bait and lic here. The island connects to Captiva Island

About the owner: For security reasons You must speak directly to Mike or Tamara on one of the numbers 419 566 0137 or 614 975 1003. Native of Pennsylvania and Ohio, I enjoy helping families and people explore areas they have not been. Having grown up with real-estate and development in my blood this was a natural transition. Sanibel Island was the perfect place to find and share with family, friends and as a rental.
Why the Owner Chose Sundial:
For security reasons You must speak directly to Mike (owner) or Tamara (property manager) on one of the numbers 419 566 0137 or 614 975 1003. Sanibel Island is a sensible, affordable safe place as either a vacation site or an endpoint destination. As of 2013 the entire resort is open to everyone, including the main pool and Spa now open/2014 With a portion of the Island being protected state park/wildlife refuge 'Ding Darling' it is going to be clean and safe for the foreseeable future. There is really no limit to the activities available. Sundial Resort has undergone a massive facelift and management change and has encompassed the larger pools and the return of 'Windows on the Water' is basically 5-star dining. Massive Buffets! Small bar inside and a large outdoor Tiki Bar where you can watch the kids swim, volley ball, game room and mini 'please touch' museum
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
You really don't have to go anywhere after you get here. There's plenty to do at this site, including a day spa. On-site tennis, basket ball courts, a pool within feet and a big Olympic size pool with waterpark features less than 1/2 a block through the parking lot, golf nearby, boat rentals, grocery, on-site gas grills. If you really feel adventurous, Fort Myers has a daily water shuttle to historic Key West, or rent a boat and head to Cabbage Key. Drive, walk or get a tour through the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. Hit the shell museum, movie theater and playhouse on rainy afternoons. If really adventurous Consider the Key West Dry Tortugas ferry. You would go to Key West first. Outside storage has two mountain bikes, with locks and a sea kayak. Other stuff is rentable all over the island.
