I surprised my boyfriend with a weekend stay at this country house for our 3rd anniversary. The house was a bit smaller than I anticipated but was quaint, rustic, and charming. All the the things needed for a comfortable escape from the city. It was also a convenient 2-hour drive from NYC. I only spoke with the male owner, Robert, once during our stay, but I found him to be warm, helpful, and accommodating. I mostly spoke with the female owner, Anna, and found her to be a bit tepid -- neither cold nor warm -- in demeanor but helpful nonetheless. The 2 times she and I spoke during our stay I actually felt like I was bothering her. I also sent her a text immediately after our stay to thank her for the accommodations and say I'd be back in touch and got no response. Either way, the house is a delightful abode for a quick excursion from NYC. You will not be disappointed with the house and the friendliness of the people in nearby Saugerties.

Owner response: Thank you for the review. Our apologies for the tepidness. We just had a baby a few months ago and our attention has been re-directed. We see now that was reflected in the response time to your calls & texts. Lesson learned. We're glad the charm and warmth of the house and Saugerties made up for it. We will both be sure to increase our response time and take extra measures to be sure our guests are listened to and well taken care of. Thanks again, Anna & Rob

We came during peak leaf peeping season to visit the Sheep and Wool festival in Rhinebeck and we had a wonderful time. The view was spectacular, and we woke up to deer in the yard every morning. I would definitely stay again!

I had a wonderful weekend away at this adorable country house located only a few hours from the city. I was so excited to spend a weekend at this place from viewing the photos, and was not disappointed once I arrived. The place looks just like the pictures and the kitchen was stocked as the owners promised. The house was clean and there were fresh flowers and yummy chocolates on the table when we arrived. The owner were in contact with us throughout the weekend to answer any questions we had. I definitely felt recharged after our stay here and definitely plan on renting this place again in the future.

My husband and I relaxed at this lovely house last weekend, and it was the perfect home base! The village of Saugerties is just a couple of minutes away, and has great little shops and restaurants to explore, and Woodstock is just 15 minutes the other way for an even more vibrant scene. We visited both and wished we had had more time to explore Woodstock. All around there are watering holes, the river and creek, and lots of beautiful nature to enjoy. It's a great area to bike around too, looking at the little gardens and woods along the way. It was so much fun taking a day trip to the Kaaterskil Falls, and then returning home to a beautiful space to grill some dinner and relax on the gorgeous porch. The horses and roosters at the neighboring farm, and the friendly cat who stopped by to say hello made the picture complete, and provided a lot of entertainment for our dog who happily frolicked or snoozed in the grass, and was always trying to sneak closer to catch a sniff of those horses! The house is incredibly comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated - it really felt like home and we were sorry to leave!! Thanks for a great long weekend.

Owner response: Thank you Molly! It was a pleasure having you! So glad you could take advantage of the bike trails up there. We hope you come back soon.

The following is transposed from a hand written note from one of our June 2012 guests: To the owners, Thank you for the use of your home. We enjoyed our stay here. Even yesterday when it was quite warm, we were able to keep the house cool with the air conditioners & fan. We liked the farm animals next door, by the way. I also enjoyed the book collection. The Jeanne Michaels Catskill guidebook was a real treat and a help - and the Hemingway short story book too. We began our trip with The Clearwater Music Festival. We are leaving the folding chairs we bought for that here - hopefully useful to someone. Pay it forward is a good way to live. We highly recommend the 2-2.5 hour boat ride on The Mystic Whaler from the festival dock. It was lovely. We now head back to the airport and will be back in Memphis this evening. Thanks also for the chocolate. Regards, Gary & Barb, Memphis TN

My husband and I recently spent an anniversary weekend at the Catskill Retreat and we had an incredible time! The drive up from the city was relatively fast and easy. The Dioguardi's were wonderful to work with--SO nice and accommodating and they really made us feel welcome in their charming house. The house is in a fantastic location in Saugerties, a short drive from Main Street, but not too close--you are definitely in the country! The house was clean, and the surroundings serene and quiet. We would recommend it to anyone and plan to return this summer!

My wife and I rented this place for the weekend and it was a wonderful quiet get away. The bedroom is amazing!!! Saugerties is such a cool town with lots of great restaurant options-our favorite is Miss Lucy's. It's a great getaway out of the city! The owners were professional and the place was super clean! It was wonderful to wake up to the quiet of the country. We were also allowed to bring our pooch, and she LOVED the horses next door!

This was a nice little house tucked away fifteen minutes from Woodstock. The amenities were generous, the kitchen was stocked, and it had pretty much everything you could ask for. Though we experienced problems with the plumbing, the owners were helpful in trying to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The bedroom, as others have stated, was one of the biggest assets of the house. It wasn't as "secluded" as other reviews claim (the two neighbors were only a stonesthrow away), and the entertainment directly surrounding the house was limited. Roosters provide a consistent wake-up call, so no need for an alarm clock. The house was close to some nice paths and trails that would be fun to explore in fair weather. I am sure this house is amazing during the summer when you can hike and take a walk around the area (which is seeped in history). Once the plumbing issues are resolved I would definitely consider renting again.

Owner response: Plumbing has officially been resolved. Turns out, we needed a new septic tank which we had installed last month. We are so happy to have it done. We love sharing our house with people from all over and we make every effort to take care of our house and make your stay comfortable. The house gets more secluded in the summer months when the beautiful trees bloom. Your honest feedback has helped us, thank you very much. We also have a brand new LCD TV.

the town of saugherties is so cute, and there are many nearby cities to check out as well. great food in saugherties! the house was great because it was remote enough to feel very private, but still close to saugherties and attractions. very comfortable home, we spent a lot of time just hanging out in the open and airy bedroom or in the kitchen and living room. the natural light in the bedroom is great! would love to stay again.

The Catskill Retreat was a perfect place for us to spend a quiet weekend away from the city. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the space - the house is cozy, comfortable and a perfect place to put your feet up and relax. A small country house, it feels roomy and modern with everything you need to cook a great meal, BBQ out on the deck or watch a movie in bed. When we were ready for more than just laying around in our PJ's we were just minutes away from Saugerties where we found darling restaurants, cool shops and the best wine store (Partition Street Wine Shop) and chocolate store (Lucky's Chocolates). I'm already checking the calendar for our next trip back!

My family, consisting of my husband, 2 year-old-child, and dog recently stayed at this Saugerties retreat for a weekend. We were welcomed to a very cozy house; my son took to calling our lodging as "the cute house." It is a quaint retreat, with modern touches. Coffee was excellent and we were welcomed with a box of chocolates and the Sunday Times. My son loved that we could wheel the tv to watch movies in bed—a rare treat. Very close to both Saugerties and Woodstock. We were able to go in and out for daily jaunts into town without feeling exhausted doing so. Our dog loved it, too. Unfortunately, though, there is a lack of fencing, which normally wouldn't be an issue, except for the neighboring horses and chickens. Unless you have a dog who is uninterested in stirring up trouble with the roosters and hens, he/she will most likely have to be indoors. No matter: Our dog probably enjoyed watching the chickens from the window more than her daily dose of Brooklyn alley cats. There's plenty of room to wander, though. There is a great road from the property—long and winding—that's made for the perfect morning run, dog in tow.

My wife & I have stayed at this charming house at least half a dozen times in the past year. Why? Because it's very comfortable, clean and has great neighhhhhbors (horses, mule & chickens). It sports a roomy loft like bedroom w/ a King sized bed ( hard to find. usually they're Queens), spacious eat in kitchen, a cozy living room and a terrific deck in the back yard. The house is conveniently located a stones throw from Saugerties & the NYS Thruway. It's a short (15 min. drive to Woodstock). I'd still be staying at Anna & Rob's Catskill retreat if I didn't find a place of my own to rent. Just doo it!

A sweet home very conveniently located within a few miles of downtown Saugerties and exit 20 off of the NYS Thruway. The bedroom (in the fully converted spacious attic loft with windows on 3 sides) with a king-sized platform bed & good mattress was so comfortable. The proximity to Saugerties was a plus as we were able to rent $1 movies, get great food, wine, desert and visit the many antique shops. It was a great getaway for a couple. It's not a secluded as I usually like, but very bright and comfortable.

Stevie and I enjoyed our stay very much - in fact, we didn't want to leave. We found your home to be very comfortable and accommodating. The snow helped to complete the picturesque scenery for us - all without the hassle of having to shovel the white stuff on our own. Thank you for sharing your home.
