This vacation cottage is lovely -- cozy yet uncramped, comfortably decorated yet uncluttered. I love that its age is obvious, with its old-fashioned feel retained, but it has been updated so beautifully. I stayed for 3 nights while visiting friends in the area and it was perfect. The house is fully outfitted, whether you want to prepare a meal for a crowd or bring pizza home and just watch a DVD with your sweetie. The neighborhood was very quiet while I was there (Fourth of July week). Lovely walks around the little town of North Bennington (even a few restaurants and shops), a lake and trails nearby, and Bennington itself only a short drive away. I couldn't have asked for more in a getaway retreat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We would stay here again. The pictures are accurate and the location, next to a church across from a school both were quiet. There's a good sized front porch and back yard with table and chairs. We were at home and relaxed. This is now my go to place in Bennington.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We stayed a week in the charming Gardener's Cottage in summer, 2011. Feels like home without feeling like "someone else's home." Kitchen was well appointed for those who don't want to eat every meal "out." The front porch was a lovely place to sit and read a book with a glass of wine each evening after dinner. Our children appreciated the cable TV and internet. Walking distance to a nice swimming/picnic area on a lake. We will definitely visit again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We've stayed here twice when visiting family in the area, and I can't get over how perfect this place is. The decor is charming and uncluttered. The beds are very comfortable. We've rented several places through vrbo.com, and this one is the standard against every other is compared. It's everything that the description says and more. I can't think of a single thing to make it more perfect.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We loved this cottage. Wonderfully decorated. Walked in and immediately felt at home. So glad to have picked this option versus one of the many B&B's in the areas for our long weekend birthday/Tour of Battenkill cycle race getaway. We have a 9 mo daughter and this cottage was perfect for our small family. Loved the location--walking distance or short car ride to great restaurants, bfast and coffee places, and good supermarket (Hannafords). Great 2.5 mile running loop from back doorstep! Owner very responsive and I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family (although just not when we want to go!)Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We love to travel and we love to renovate houses. Jeff is a builder, and Amy is a designer. We have both lived in the area for most of our lives, and plan on coming back to stay in our cottage when we start to migrate south for the winters.
Why the Owner Chose Bennington:
We bought this cottage in North Bennington because we know a lot of families and tourists come to this area, whether it's to come to Bennington College, or a wedding, or for fall foliage, and there aren't a lot of choices for affordable, kid-friendly, accommodations.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We love the village location. We can walk to a choice of restaurants for dinner, or to Lake Paran for a swim, or to the Mile-around-woods for casual hike or cross-country skiing. It's an intimate little town, with an eclectic mix of students, artists, retirees, and young families, and there is always something fun going on.
