The Mas du Marechal is situated in the village of Vers Pont du Gard which is in the heart of the Cotes du Rhone wine region. It is also a stone’s throw away from the legionary Pont du Gard, the almost 2000 year old Roman Aqueduct. This is a World Heritage site and is the 3rd most visited site in France after Paris and Mont St. Michel in Brittany.
The old stone village farmhouse and barn is situated right in the centre of the old part of the village and has been fully and sympathetically restored, the emphasis having been on keeping the original features of the house intact while also providing you with every comfort and luxury possible. The house has been beautifully decorated, is fully equipped and has 5 double bedrooms with crisp percale bedding, each bedroom having it’s own fresh new bathroom. This house is ideal for large family groups or a group of friends.
The wonderful open plan kitchen is equipped to please a gourmet cook. The central island is a cook’s dream and the extra seating around the island and in the kitchen area allows for group cooking sessions while sipping a glass of the local ice cold rose.
A large airy living area opens onto the garden and shaded terrace, overlooking the sparkling pool which helps to keeps the Provencal heat at bay. The courtyard garden has a second entry through a gate which gives onto a small impasse, perfect for coming in and out with bicycles.
The village of Vers Pont du Gard is a lively working village with all the amenities that you require during your stay. A fresh produce farmers market takes place on the square three times a week. A fresh fish van arrives once a week. You can also buy wine directly from the kitchen door of the local vineyard or at the wine co-operative. Food and wine are the main attractions of the area and sublime food markets abound.

This beautiful house was perfect for 3 families (6 adults and 4 children). Every family had her own privacy which we really appreciated after having rented houses in that area for 6 years. The location is excellent. The house feels like coming home and is very well maintained and equipped. The owner was very helpful and we would definitely recommend this property to relatives and friends!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

I have stayed with friends and family in over 12 villas over the years and this one is a beauty! One of my top 3 and I would love to return and would recommend it highly to all my travelling friends. It is beautiful and has that WOW factor. This is a villa that is more that the description and pictures depict. The decor and design is stunning. The kitchen has everything....we stayed in for dinner all 6 nights and found every utensil and cooking ware that we needed. We did day trips on most days and ate lunch out but we found ourselves running back to the villa to enjoy the pool and the outside amenities. I travelled with my husband and 5 twenty-somethings who enjoyed the relaxation of the villa as they destressed from the hectic jobs. What I loved was that all 5 bedrooms were beautiful, comfortable and comparable so if 5 couples were travellilng together there would be a comparable bedroom and bathroom for each couple. The owner Vivienne was so helpful and so attentive in answering email questions which was much appreciated.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This beautiful and spacious home had everything we required and then some for a perfect holiday. We stayed for two weeks and the location was ideal for daytrips to nearby towns and cities to visit markets, vineyards, beaches, and historical sights. That said the village of Vers itself is wonderful too - fabulous bakery and epicerie - and the people were very friendly. The house was more than big enough for our family of five. The adults enjoyed the exceptionally well-stocked kitchen and the lounging areas including the lovely lavender-bordered terrace. The kids had a great time in the pool and playing in the garden on stay-at-home days. Outings nearby not to miss include the Pont-du-Gard, the market at Uzes, Avignon, and Montpellier and its nearby beaches. Foods not to miss: anything from the local bakery, local wines, olives and cheeses, and the Wednesday night pizza truck.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

An experience not to be forgotten. The brochure accurately describes the location and amenities. Set in the heart of a well maintained medieval village, the restored Mas blends into its surroundings. The surprize is in the wonderful ambiance of this beautifully renovated building. Generously proportioned rooms tastefully furnished in a distinctly French vernacular introduce an unexpected level. At one time we were a party of eleven and at no time did we feel crowded. The beginning and end of the days were inevitably spent on the patio - lazy breakfasts with fresh croissants from the bakery around the corner and long evenings sipping the wines of the Rhone. We loved these evenings so much that we all took turns at cooking rather than testing the local cuisine. No end to the daytime choices - walks in the village and biking , or walking, in the surrounding countryside - the site of the incredible Roman aqueduct a must. Easy access to so much of interest - some of our favorites Avignon, les Baux, L'Isle sur la Sorgue we even ventured as far north as Grenoble. The property is meticulously maintained and cannot be faulted I would love to go back and would recommend it to friends and family. A quiet setting in the heart of a medieval village within east driving or cycling or walking to renGenerously proportioned rooms add a luxurious tone - we were a party of 11 and at no time felt crowded. Lazy breakfasts on the patio peaceful and tranquilRecommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our party of 10 adults and two children loved the quality and beauty of this restored, spacious, impeccably kept house with all the facilities needed for a diverse group....pool and garden; wifi; fully equiped kitchen & everything to encourage lengthy and lively dining experiences; private and tastefully decorated en suite bedrooms...The village of Vers is charming, with a brilliant bakery and all the other basic needs available. An interesting and varied range of good restaurants are within easy reach, with contact numbers available in the house. The countryside around invites cycling and walking through vineyards and to beautifully restored hilltop villages. The World Heritage site, Pont du Gard, within 15 minutes walk of the house is not to be missed and Avignon, a short drive away, deserves at least a day. The market at Uzes is a must! Staying here was a treat.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I would give this property a six out of five. The home is comfortable, spacious, beautifully decorated, and sunny. The house is well equipped with a phone, new flat screen tv, cable (even channels in english), a dvd player and collection of DVDs. The wifi connection is always five bars. I was able to get work done between my tour of the area. I especially love how this town is a true french town and off the beaten path of southern france "destinations." Locals were at work trimming their vineyards, working in the quarries, and going about their business at the tabac, boulangerie, etc. I had ample opportunity to practice my french. Love it, will definitely try to come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

If you are looking for a home away from home in a picturesque village at the lip of Provence, Mas du Marechal fits the bill admirably. It seamlessly marries the charm of the past with every modern convenience, making this wonderfully restored farm house as comfortable yet luxe as cashmere. The five bedrooms are tastefully appointed with inviting linens and warmly refined décor. Every bedroom boasts a full modern bathroom, each completely updated to the most demanding International taste, making the use of the home for large parties extraordinarily civilized! The open plan of the kitchen/dining/living lends itself to gatherings, enhanced spectacularly by the dramatic stone staircase and fireplace large enough to stand in, as well as the massive arched steel door which opens on to the rear terrace and pool area, inviting the outdoors in, along with the famed light of the region. The rear garden, tucked away from village activity, offers quiet respite with its pristine pool and covered patio, ideal for an al Fresco dining experience. The Vers Pont du Gard area seduces with its offerings of history, architecture and commerce hand in hand with sophisticated shopping and dining, bursting markets and natural scenery. The village itself hums with busy lives, allowing one to feel gently drawn into l’art de vivre quite naturally. The bustling town of Uzes, a mere ten minutes away, is confident in its beauty and sophistication – flourishing stores, crowded restaurants, thriving markets. And Avignon, directly to the east about half an hour, blends a full blown commercial, modern city with ancient, sacred French relics. We have no doubt that your stay in this glorious house will provide you with the springboard for an unforgettable French experience and adventure, but also the sanctuary to relax and recoup in the company of friends and loved ones in a home that happily embraces you all. Enjoy!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We spent a week here in late May 2010, just after it opened. It is a work of art, restored with loving care. The beautiful, open, high ceiling living room was originally an old barn attached to the house (see the album!). The stone staircase leading to the upstairs is striking. It is a place that can easily absorb eight to ten people without a problem. The bedrooms are great, private and all have separate bathrooms. The open downstairs floorplan is conducive to easy interchange in the house and onto the patio and pool area. As avid gardeners, we wished for an herb garden, and with the owners permission planted one just behind the pool...rosemary, thyme, taragon, parsley, sage, mint and annuals. With the tasteful decorating and furniture it is very comfortable as well as beautiful. Hard to beat! Go!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Loved it. Couldn't more strongly recommend a stay at this property. The town of Vers is adorable. The home is two blocks from the town center with a delicious bakery (must try the pain au chocolat...), a fresh fruit and vegetable stand, a little tabac, and a grocery market. The produce is incredible (try the tomatoes and pears!) and everyone is so friendly. The house is large and beautiful. The kitchen is equipped better than mine is at home. The showers are powerful and luxurious. Out back is a beautiful garden with flowers and pool. The sunlight in the south of France is unlike anything I have ever seen. I now understand what inspired all the artists and painters that have spent time in the area. I can't wait to find an opportunity to go back.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

A group of friends stayed for a week at this house at the end of August. As an architect, I could appreciate the wonderful renovation of the house. The house is very well equipped, lives easily, is functional, and we all enjoyed the pool and the barbecue outside. We felt really fortunate to be staying in such a luxury home. The surrounding areas offers so much to do that a week's stay does not begin to cover what there is to see, do and experience. We loved the market in Uzes as much as we enjoyed exploring Avignon and just enjoying down time at the pool. We will definitely return in 2011 for a longer stay. The house was impeccable, we got good service when we arrived by the person running the house, and we would recommend a stay in this house without reservation.Did you find this review helpful?
