Looking for a romantic weekend for 2 or family reunion? Watanda Lodge, located 2 miles from downtown Nevada City is the perfect get-away for small families or large groups. Our 40 acre site is a retired resident camp renovated for family enjoyment. Watanda Lodge can be rented for reunions, parties and weddings OR the lodge alone can be rented by your family or a couple for a romantic weekend. Watanda Lodge sits on Lake Vera whose ownership is shared by 3 seasonal working camps.
The non-smoking lodge contains a large stocked, commercial kitchen for meal preparation for up to 60 persons. The 16 x 54 outdoor dining deck will seat up to 60. The lodge bathroom one toilet and one tub/shower. Adjacent bath house has 3 toilets and 3 showers. The Great Room has a large ten foot fireplace with wood burning insert for chasing away the winter chill. Additional heating is provided by space heaters. There is no air conditioning. Direct-TV/VCR/DVD & wireless DSL, phone for local calls. Large video/DVD collection, books & puzzles for your enjoyment. Maximum in the lodge is 24 for dinning and 8-10 for overnight sleeping. Additonal guests sleep bunk style in the Kiosks. With lodge and kisoks, we can house about 36+ guests; including cabin, total site capacity is 42.
The large dorm style beroom contains one king bed (linens provided with electric mattress pad, (towels are not), one twin bunkbed, one twin bunk over full bed, one twin bed, only bottom sheets are provided. Additionally, there are 4 extra cots with mattresses & 12 pillows. Portable crib/playpen & high chair available. Additional camping in the kiosks.
KIOSKS: Kiosks are 3-sided camping cabins, they sleep 10 each in bunks (mattresses provided) additional guests on the deck of the kiosks (mattresses not provided). There is no power to the kiosks. Kiosks are not suitable for winter use. The bath house is located nearby and has 3 toilets and 3 showers.
LAKE VERA is a small private lake, there are a variety of water craft for your use including 6 canoes. Life jackets are provided and required for all boaters. No fishing license is needed. A picnic area, large fire ring and stage are located on the waterfront, accommodating 60. The lake is drained from about November (depending on rainy season) to mid-April and water level begins to drop in August and can be quite low in dry summers. There is an ALL-Lake quiet from 9:30 pm-7:00 am in which only quiet activities may occur.
The site can be rented various ways, overnight, weekend or weekly. For couples, families or small groups, you might want only the lodge; for larger groups, the additional kiosks can be used. Whatever you decide, it all comes with waterfront use. Small cabin on the property may be also rented at the same time if the entire site is not rented by your group. Total site capacity is 42+ (including the cabin). Motor Homes and school busses can navigate our entrance, but not large Coaches. We do not have RV hook-ups or the capacity to run extension cords.
NEVADA CITY: Nevada City has many year-round events and the Fall colors and weather are not to be missed. December has Victorian Christmas and Grass Valley has Celtic Christmas, both are weekly events thru December. The fairgrounds are close by with many antitque and quilt shows. There are also several wineries in the area and many fine restaurants and antique stores. Grocery stores, consumer services and hospital, are less than 5 miles away.
WEDDINGS: Consider Camp Watanda for your outdoor wedding. Tables, table cloths, dishes and decorations are available. Call or email for details.
SUMMER USE: Great for families large or small, or friends who vacation together, weddings, meetings, company picnics, family reunions and retreats. The Yuba River is 3 miles away. Equestrian trails and staging areas along Hwy 20. Many developed bike trails in the area, we permit non-motorized biking only, safety gear applies.
WINTER USE: Lodge will only accommodate up to 8-10 in the winter, (8 in beds and additional cots) The kiosks are not available for winter use. Tahoe skiing one hour away, lodge works well for skiers who do not want to pay resort prices! Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20. Snow play about 20 minutes up Hwy 20. Lodge is located off main road, but access in winter can be tricky if snow level drops to 2500 feet which does not happen often. Saucer sleds and snow pants in all sizes available.
PETS: Well behaved owners with good citizen dogs are welcome, however the lodge is a licensed commercial kitchen and has all new furniture, dogs are not allowed in the kitchen or on furniture. Please help us to remain pet friendly by observing this and using pet gate. Dogs must have current rabies vacination. It is recommended that dogs be treated 3 days before your arrival with a topical flea and tick medication such as "Advantix". Large dogs are not suitable during the winter months.

After working at the summer camp next door for 20 years, I knew this is where I wanted to retire to, so when the opportunity to purchase Camp Watanda became available, we bought it! We restored the site with modern amenities making it suitable for family use.

For my daughter's birthday in September, I reserved the cabin at Camp Watanda. I actually made the reservations way back in March and was pleased with the wonderful communication from the owners. There were no surprises when we arrived, and since it was "self check in"..we were able to arrive on our own schedule. Even though my daughter had broken her foot days before the trip and was in a cast, we had a wonderful time. The cabin was so clean and well stocked and especially cozy! The lake was low, but there was plenty of wildlife and my grandson thoroughly enjoyed himself. The whole experience was amazing.. restful and peaceful. I highly recommend this location to anyone who needs to get away, without really being that far off the grid. I can't wait for our next trip to paradise.

Our family held a HUGE family reunion here, we rented the entire camp to include the lodge, cabin and kiosks for 4 beautiful days June 6-9th 2008. On Sunday we had over 60 people up for the day, though that many did not sleep there. The kitchen was adequate...more than adequate...to prepare a meal big enough to feed all these people!! The shed down by the water was packed full (and sooo organized) of watervests, and the canoes and such down by the water made playing in the water ALOT of fun!! The large lodge living space provided ample room for our karaoke singoffs each night and the bonfire ring was a huge hit with all the kids as we roasted marshmallows, sang songs, and told stories of yester-year. The highlight "area" for everyone was probably the beautiful HUGE deck that is attached to the lodge...all the meals were eaten here each day...and lots of hugs and tears of joy were shed on that patio as new arrivals showed up to the reunion!! We took it upon ourselves to plug in the wonderful rope lights each night that provided wonderful ambiance for everyone around the deck!! The kiosks were great, very spacious...and even without a front on them, sleeping was quite comfortable and peaceful!! The bath-house was awesome and was more than enough to handle the job!! I can't give you much feedback about the cabin, as I didn't spend much time there...my other family member did...though...it is wonderful inside there and was the place everyone "wanted" to sleep!! :) The Camp Watanda property was a dream come true for my family!! We will definately be back!!!

We stayed in the cabin in April. As others have mentioned, it is well equipped with all you need. We enjoyed it! I hope to come back later in the year when there is WATER in the lake so we can paddle around. Sleeping arrangements include the comfy bed in the bedroom, & bunks in living room. The composting toilet is NEAT, clean ...and appropriate. Thank you!

This was our second stay at the lodge and we enjoyed it both times. Good accomidations, it's a great place to relax after working long hours. We love the whole Nevada City area.

Thank you for such a wonderful place to relax and feel comfortable! Our family and 2 dogs had a great time swimming and playing. Camp Watanda is well taken care of and had plenty to do or just simply relax by the lake. We look forward to coming back!

What a wonderful place! I would recommend it to anyone interested in relaxing and having some fun. We stayed in the Lodge, it is so cozy and comfortable. I can't remember that last time I felt as rested and relaxed as after our stay.
