Looking for a romantic weekend for 2 or family reunion? Camp Watanda, located 2 1/2 miles from downtown Nevada City is the perfect get-away for small families or large groups. Our 40 acre site is a retired resident camp renovated for family enjoyment. Camp Watanda can be rented for reunions, parties, weddings or scouting events OR the lodge alone can be rented by your family or a couple for a romantic weekend. Watanda Lodge sits on Lake Vera whose ownership is shared by three other seasonal working camps.
The non-smoking lodge contains a large stocked, commercial kitchen for meal preparation for up to 60 persons. Indoor dining seating is limited to 28. The 16 x 54 outdoor dining deck will seat up to 60. The lodge bathroom one toilet and one tub/shower. Adjacent bath house has 3 toilets and 3 showers. The Great Room has a large ten foot fireplace with wood burning insert for chasing away the winter chill. Additional heating is provided by space heaters. There is no air conditioning, the lodge can be stuffy when the temperatures are high...go swimming! Direct-TV/VCR/DVD & wireless DSL, phone for local calls. Large video/DVD collection, books & puzzles for your enjoyment. Maximum in the lodge is 48 for meetings, 28 for dinning and 8-12 for overnight sleeping. Additonal guests sleep bunk style in the Kiosks. With lodge and kisoks, we can house about 54 guests; including cabin, total site capacity is 60. FOR GROUPS LARGER THAN 60, CAMP GOLD HOLLOW NEXT DOOR CAN ACCOMODATE UP TO 100. Call them at 707 643-4573. The large Great Room contains one king bed (linens provided with electric mattress pad, towels are not), one twin bunkbed, one twin bunk over full bed, one twin bed, only bottom sheets are provided. Additionally, there are 4 extra cots with mattresses, 4 sleeping bags & 10 pillows. Portable crib/playpen & high chair available. There is no privacy for coziness. Additional camping in the kiosks.
KIOSKS: Kiosks are 3-sided camping cabins, they sleep 10 each in bunks (mattresses provided) additional guests on the deck of the kiosks (mattresses not provided). There is no power to the kiosks. Kiosks are not suitable for winter use. The bath house is located nearby and has 3 toilets and 3 showers.
OVERNIGHT CAMPING: On occasion, kiosks only may be avialable on a limited basis for overnight camping M-TH, there is a 2 day minimum. Reservations are accepted within 30 days of arrival, No drop ins. Email for details. LAKE VERA is a small private lake, there are a variety of water craft for your use including 6 canoes. Life jackets are provided and required for all boaters. No fishing license is needed. A picnic area, large fire ring and stage are located on the waterfront, accommodating 60. The lake is drained from about November (depending on rainy season) to mid-April and water level begins to drop in August and can be quite low in dry summers. There is an ALL-Lake quiet from 9:30-7:00. Only activities that do not create a noise disturbance are allowed.
The site can be rented various ways, either by day, overnight, weekend or weekly. For couples, families or small groups, you might want only the lodge; for larger groups, the additional kiosks can be used. Whatever you decide, it all comes with waterfront use. Small cabin on the property may be also rented at the same time if the entire site is not rented by your group. Inquire at time of rental if this is a concern for you. Total site capacity is 60 (including the cabin). Motor Homes and School Busses can navigate our entrance, but not large Coaches. We do not have RV hook-ups or the capacity to run extension cords.
NEVADA CITY: Nevada City has many year-round events and the Fall colors and weather are not to be missed. December has Victorian Christmas and Grass Valley has Celtic Christmas, both are weekly events thru December. The fairgrounds are close by with many antitque and quilt shows. There are also several wineries in the area and many fine restaurants and antique stores. Grocery stores, consumer services and hospital, are less than 5 miles away.
SUMMER USE: Great for families large or small, or friends who vacation together, weddings, meetings, company picnics, family reunions, retreats, and scouting events. Yuba River is 3 miles. Equestrian trails and staging areas along Hwy 20. Many developed bike trails in the area, we permit non-motorized biking only, safety gear applies.
WINTER USE: Tahoe skiing one hour away, lodge works well for skiers who do not want to pay resort prices! Lodge will accomodate up to 12 in the winter. Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20. Snow play about 20 minutes up Hwy 20. Lodge is located off main road, but access in winter can be tricky if snow level drops to 2500 feet which does not happen often. Saucer sleds and snow pants in all sizes available.
PETS: Well behaved owners with good citizen dogs are welcome, however the lodge is a licensed commercial kitchen and has all new furniture, dogs are not allowed in the kitchen or on furniture. Please help us to remain pet friendly by observing this and using pet gate. Dogs must have current rabies vacination. It is recommended that dogs be treated 3 days before your arrival with a topical flea and tick medication such as "Advantix".
