This charming cabin is located on the property of Camp Watanda, Nevada City, California, 2 1/2 miles from downtown Nevada City. This is a secret hide-away with lake, canoes, stage and large camp fire ring. Will sleep up to 6, linens provided for queen bed, 2 sleeping bags, bottom sheets & 4 pillows provided for the twin bunk and linens for sofa sleeper or bring your own, you will need to bring your own towels unless your travel is by air. Direct TV/VCR/DVD provided. Floor furnace, window A/C in livingroom. Phone for local calls. Port-a-crib available.
The remodeled fully equipped kitchen contains everything you need including BBQ tools and high chair. Pots, pans, dishes, microwave, toaster, cofee maker all provided. A large picnic table and charcoal BBQ sits on the porch. Single bedroom with queen bed and bathroom with shower.
The cabin sits on Lake Vera (lake views from the back porch), canoes, chairs and umbrellas provided. Charcoal BBQ and picnic area on waterfront. No license needed for fishing. Life jackets are provided and required for all boaters. Lake is seasonal and is drained from about mid-November (depending on rainy season) to mid-April. Lake levels begin to drop in August and can be quite low in dry summers.
Additional lodge located on property may be rented to others at the same time so waterfront may be shared. Inquire at time of rental if this is a concern for you. Nevada City: The Spring and Fall in Nevada City are not to be missed, this small Gold Mining town is a definate destination for a week (or weekend) of fun. There are several wineries in the area as well as many fine restaurants, and antique stores. Both Empire Gold Mine and Malakoff Diggings are open for tours. Grocery stores, hospital and other services less than 5 miles away.
SUMMER USE: April, May and June are my favorite months at Camp Watanda, the days are warm and evenings are long. There are many,lakes in the area and Yuba River is 3 miles away. Hwy 20 has many Equstrian trails and staging areas. The fairgrounds is close by and has many antique and quilt shows as well as horse events and home shows. Nevada County Fair is August 6-10, 2008.
WINTER USE: Nevada City and Grass Valley both have weekly Christmas Fairs in December offering many local artisans. Great location for Tahoe skiers who do not want to pay resort prices. Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20, snow play less than 20 minutes up Hwy 20. Cabin at 2500 ft elevation and is located off main road which is plowed but has long gravel/dirt driveway. There is parking at the road entrance if snow is a problem, but rarely is. Saucer sleds and snow pants available in most sizes from 6-2x.
PETS: Well behaved owners with good citizen dogs (2 dog limit) are welcome. Please bring their own food dishes and towels. Pets cannot be left unattended unless crated. Please help us to remain pet friendly by keeping pets off furniture and using door gates as needed. Dogs must have current rabies vacination. It is recommeded that dogs be treated 3 days before arrival with a topical flea and tick medication such at "Advantage".
