This made the third time my husband and I have rented the house and AGAIN, the stay was absolutely perfect! Kim is one of the nicest people we've ever met. She makes you feel like an old friend instead of a vacation renter! And it doesn't stop there. Kim knows how much I love alligators and she keeps me posted inbetween our vacations of any and all alligator activity on the island. Much to my surprise, when my husband and I first arrived, I found a stuffed alligator on the bed AND lucky "gator hunter" beads. I can't explain how much little things like that can add to your vacation. The house is perfect. Spotless. It's well-stocked with practically any and every thing you need. The beds are comfortable. The linens and towels look new. I could go on and on, but really, just look at the pictures of the house and multiple it by 100. And that's what you'll find when you step into this beautiful house. We can't wait til our next vacation and honestly, we won't even consider renting from anyone else! Thanks again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed the 'Awesome Beach House' on Oak Island. We have been to Oak Island many times and this is our favorite rental. It is not on the beach but that is only 2 blocks away. The house is exactly as pictured on the website. It was very well supplied. We had plenty of towels and everything in the kitchen that you might need. Kim and Galen were great landlords. We will stay there again.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway.

This was our first vacation in NC, and what a wonderful way to be introduced to its southern coast. This lovely home is exactly as described and pictured, immaculate, and after taking photos of it to share with others, I realized I could have just used the ones in the listing. It feels and looks brand new, as the owners maintain the property with pride and love. Kim and Galen were amazing hosts, ready and able to personally help us every step of the way, literally! Our flight was delayed, and then we ran into a major detour on our drive out of Wilmington, so our arrival on Oak Island was going to be much later than anticipated. The owners, who were ready to personally welcome us to the home, were concerned, called us to make sure all was well, and to our relief talked us through the route we needed to take to escape the horrid traffic jam! They were always available for suggestions or information regarding restaurants, attractions, and events. If they did not know the answer, they found out for us and let us know. The home is located on the quiet end of the island on a wonderfully peaceful street. The beautiful furniture throughout is comfortable, the beds are like clouds, and the screened porch is perfect for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Although the kitchen has what is needed to make just about any kind of meal, if there is a pan or dish you cannot find, just ask, and the owners will make sure you get it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and feel as though we have gained two new friends in Kim and Galen. We highly recommend this home and look forward to retuning to NC!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was our second stay at this amazing house and it certainly won't be our last. When we arrived we were met by one of the owners (Kim) and she gave us a warm hug. I said "I'm home!" and I certainly felt like it. There's not much I can say in this review that I didn't say in my previous review (April of this year). We found the house in perfect condition. Spotlessly clean. All the amenities you could possibly ask for. There was no need to go to Wal-Mart for supplies. There was toilet tissue, paper towels, laundry detergent, fabric softener, soap...everything you could possibly need...it was already there. The neighborhood is VERY quiet and peaceful. Surrounded by people who OWN their own homes (mostly Senior Citizens...who are nice and friendly...but best of all QUIET)! Everything is nearby. The owners are right around the corner. Honestly, you feel like royalty when you stay at this house and the owners treat you like family. The beach wasn't crowded at this time of year. The pier fishing was good. The shopping was good. The local restaurants were great. This is the type of neighborhood that folks wave at you when they ride by. Kim had even put together a booklet of brochures that explained local activities and even menus from all of the local restaurants. We are already planning our next vacation. And, it won't be soon enough. Thanks Butch & Kim for yet another week in Heaven at your beautiful house! We'll see y'all soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our vacation stay was perfect. The property was exactly as depicted. It was extremely clean and quite comfortable. The beach access was also very convenient--a short drive away and always adequate parking right by the beach. The beach was also clean and beautiful. The owners were quite helpful and there to please their guests. Would highly recommend this home!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is a very nice house. The place was spotless when we checked in. Our group included 4 adults, and we had plenty of room. The beds were super comfortable. The washer/dryer were great to have available. All appliances seemed fairly new and in excellent condition. We really enjoyed having a garage for our car, especially in the summer heat. The gas grill was big and in excellent condition. It was great to have wireless internet. The TV service was basic cable, so that was a little disappointing. The living area furniture was fair. We like to cook while on vacation (and the restaurants on Oak Island leave a lot to be desired), so I would have enjoyed better pots, pans, serving dishes, etc. Also, no wine glasses. Although we will choose a different house next time, to be closer to the beach and so that we may bring our dog, I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOUSE. The owners were friendly and even invited us to enjoy the tomatoes growing in the backyard! This was our first experience on Oak Island and it was a positive one. We are already looking forward to next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/13

What a great experience with our first vacation at OKI! The house was perfect for us and what a great price! We have a family of 6, including two teenage girls. The house was big enough for all of us and has a great amount of closet space. All of the photos that are included in the vrbo listing were very accurate. We were also impressed with how clean the house was. It was great to enter the house after driving for 12 hours and see it in immaculate condition! There were enough supplies(paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, etc.) to get us started so we didn't have to rush to the store immediately upon arrivial. Galen and Kim were very helpful and available if we needed them. We were having trouble with the wi-fi and they called us back to make sure it was working. They were also helpful in reccommending various activities and restaurants around the area. We enjoyed various activites in nearby Wilmington and Southport. We would encourage you to rent from Galen and Kim. We had a great time and hope to come back soon!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was our second stay at this house after having stayed at many different NC beaches and Oak Island addresses during the past two decades. Reasons why we returned to this house and plan to return again next year? With three children and two adults our interests are varied at the beach. However, we all appreciate the quiet location of this house, which truly feels like a home. It is white glove clean. Every bed, bathroom, and appliance is kept in top condition. We enjoy cooking in the roomy, well organized kitchen and eating at the large dining tables in the house and on the screened porch. We didn't eat a single restaurant meal during our visit. There is ample food storage space in the kitchen. Dishes, pots, and pans are clean and plentiful. The home now has WiFi, which was an added bonus. I enjoy the fact that it is easy to bike to the beach and grocery store from this property. There are ample safe roads for long and short walks and runs nearby. Children can ride bikes in front of the property safely. Fishing is extremely convenient with end of road access to the waterway and close access to the Point. But, I must add, one of the number one reasons we returned to this home is because the owners of the property take true pride in being stewards of this house. They are good people and their heart shows through the lovely home they are willing to share. I am happy to give my stay at this property a raving review. But, part of me is torn in doing so since I want it to remain available to me, mE, ME!!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/11

We came to Oak Island to attend my niece's wedding. The other family members spent the week in a 12 and 10 bedroom beach home - that was not going to work for us. I was bringing my 92 year old dad, so it wasn't practical to stay in a home on the beach due to all the steps. I talked to Kim several times - both by email and phone - about her property and she was so patient with all my questions. She could not have been more helpful in easing my concerns. We arrived - the house was perfect! As other reviewers have stated - it was spotless. It had everything we needed - and more. I only wish I had stopped by the house first before stopping at Walmart because there were paper products already there and many of the other 'essentials' needed for the first several days - that was really a plus. The rest of the family stayed at the very end of West Beach - at first I was concerned about the drive because I knew we would be spending lots of time there. It was absolutely no problem. I was able to drive there in about 8-10 minutes - and there were never cars on the road in the evening as I was returning home. It was really nice taking morning walks - the beach is so close - and you can pick up the morning paper at the Beach Pantry. My two nieces also stayed with us - they agreed - it was nice returning to the quiet each evening and enjoying a relaxing breakfast on the patio in the morning. I would definitely recommend this house - thanks for everything, Kim!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: We relocated to OKI from Charlotte, NC in 2009 for Kim's new job. Kim is a CPA & is an Assistant Financial Manager for a large manufacturing company HQ in Wilmington. 'Butch' is in sales & manufacturing. We purchased our first house on OKI in 2002 which is where we now reside. We are only two blocks away if any of our guests need anything.
Why the Owner Chose Oak Island:
We first started coming to OKI in 2000 to visit our friends & fell in love with the quiet, uncrowded beaches. There are no high-rise hotels, no amusement parks, no shopping malls - and no crowds. This is why we like it here. Many days we have the beach almost to ourselves. People are extremely friendly. It is a place for families to spend quality time together, surf fishing, pier fishing, biking, walking, crabbing, shelling, swimming, kayaking, miniature golf, boating, tennis and much more.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
House is extremely QUIET. Conveniently located only 4 BLOCKS TO NEW BRIDGE on the quiet West end of the island. Spacious open floor plan. Double wide cement drive will easily accomodate boat parking. Double attached garage. This ONE LEVEL home has only 3 steps to enter & is great for people unable to climb a full set of stairs. Screened-in porch for outdoor dining.
