Baybarlyn is a charming Olde Captiva-style home. This 3,000-square-foot house has been updated for modern amenities while preserving a timeless, quaint air. This tropical haven offers 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, plus a den with an open floor plan for entertainment. It is set on over an acre of natural landscaping for privacy and enjoyment. Chefs will enjoy the fully equipped kitchen and gas BBQ grill. Other amenities include a washer and dryer, 5 TVs, 3 DVD players, 2 stereos with iPod docks, and free high-speed wireless internet throughout the home. An enclosed porch adjoining the master bedroom provides a wonderful view of the pool and surrounding foliage.
Your private beach, a place to relax, read, or play in the surf and sand, is a short stroll down our sandy path through the sea oats . Captiva features world-class shelling, so you'll be sure to find a few treasures to take home during your beach outings. As the day melts into the night, you'll be able to take pleasure in the stunning, world-renowned sunsets. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and noodles are provided at the house for your convenience.
At the home, there is a 32-by-16-foot heated swimming pool. It has a large wading area with enough room for little kids to play and splash around. The pool gently slopes to a depth of six feet, with ledges on the side at two different depths for sitting and relaxing. Surrounding the pool is an open deck equipped with eight chairs and two tables. The home features two outdoor showers, which allow kids to wash the sand off quickly before coming inside. The proximity of the pool to the house, the convenient showers, and the foliage-rich acre+ lot make this home a kid-friendly place and a great center for multiple-family get-togethers.
Stargazing is second to none on Captiva Island. Its distance from the mainland keeps the light and noise pollution to a minimum, allowing the stars to dominate the night sky and the sea breeze to be the only sound heard for miles. Once the sun has set, tiny, bioluminescent organisms can be seen as you swim in the glassy water. These two features alone merit at least one nighttime excursion to the beach. If you desire a night in, there is a den with a TV, a game closet right off the living room, and access to wi-fi throughout the house, allowing for several ways to spend an entertaining evening at home.
If you're looking for a fun island excursion outside of the house, there are many options within easy walking and/or biking distance. Nearby 'Tween Waters Inn hosts crab racing on Mondays and Thursdays. Local art galleries such as Jungle Drums display the works of island and mainland artists and craftsmen -- and many of the items are available for you to purchase and take home with you. Thanks to several marinas on the island, you can rent a boat for a day and cruise around the island and up the Inter-coastal Waterway, marveling at the natural beauty and casting your reel for a myriad of fish. If kayaking is your thing, you can rent one from various locations on both Captiva and Sanibel. Spend the day exploring the numerous bays and mangrove trails, such as the newly reopened Buck Key. Restaurants such as The Mucky Duck, The Green Flash, and Key Lime Bistro ensure that a visitors with a desire for delicious food will not be disappointed. For dessert, pick up a giant slice of cake or pie from The Bubble Room, a quirky, 1930s-themed restaurant near the heart of the town. During the winter, you have the privilege of being able to attend serviced at the Chapel by the Sea. A charming one-room schoolhouse-turned-chapel.
If your desire is to learn more about the island and its native plants and creatures, your options are endless, especially with sister island Sanibel nearby. About a half-hour's drive away is the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge and Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W.). Ding Darling has a beautiful wildlife drive and several walking paths and is known as a great place for birdwatching. Tarpon Bay Marina and Wildlife, affiliated with Ding Darling, gives boat tours of the protected bay area. This is another great way to see all kinds of wildlife, including such rarities as dolphins and manatees. C.R.O.W. also features several educational programs available for anyone interested in learning more about the islands and their native flora and fauna. Also found on Sanibel is the Shell Museum, a wonderful collection of shells that allows you to explore how they live and develop. At the far end of Sanibel Island is the old lighthouse. Built in 1884, it remains in use today, and its gorgeous light still swoops across the bay.
Whether you are searching for relaxing, warm getaway during the winter or a fun-filled family vacation in the summer, Baybarlyn is a lovely and affordable option on a peaceful tropical island. Come visit and discover why Captiva has become a favorite Gulfside destination for young and old alike.

Our multi generational family just spent 2 glorious weeks on Captiva Island at Baybarlyn. Captiva has changed a lot in the years since we were last there with many big mansions. However, Baybarlyn, tucked in behind a nice hedge across from the ocean, is a delightful mix of old Captiva and new. Spotlessly clean the house, as my son in law said "is a real party house" It could hold a crowd! The kitchen had everything anyone could want (including enough dishes for that party!). The beds were all comfy with nice linens. The pool area is the best!. Designed with kids in mind, and lots of chairs and tables all around it. Numerous beach/pool toys are provided. A few steps across the road leads to a beautiful beach with chairs and umbrellas provided where you can enjoy the gorgeous sunsets. However, they are easily seen from the front porch. A couple of minor issues were quickly handled by Royal Shell, the onsite maintenance people. While it may not be one of the mansions, Baybarlyn is a special house with Captiva history and makes for a great holiday. Would return and recommend. (one thing I would also recommend it locking your car doors while parked in the yard. We were blase and lost 2 GPS systems on our last night!)Did you find this review helpful? House is terrific and in a perfect location. Located across the street from the beach and Gulf of Mexico with a great pool in the backyard. House amenities were more than adequate and the kitchen is very well stocked. Myself and family (8 total) had an excellent vacation and really enjoyed the house.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

I have had the great privilege of spending my summer vacation time in this house for the past several years, and I must say that if you’re looking for an idyllic beach hideout, look no further. This is one of the last remaining original beach houses on the island, and it is clear that this house is well loved. A few of the walls have been hand-painted (the beach scene in the downstairs bathroom is amazing!), and the house is filled with numerous shells and beach knickknacks that the owners have collected over the years. It’s a charming, peaceful place that embodies the words “relaxation” and “vacation.” Although it’s one of the older homes on Captiva, Baybarlyn is by no means lacking in amenities. The kitchen has been upgraded and is fully equipped for all of your cooking ventures. The swimming pool is a fantastic new addition, and families with children will love the kid-friendly wading end of the pool. If you can’t miss your favorite TV show, no problem: there are several TVs (complete with DVD players) located throughout the house. And if you absolutely must do work while you’re on vacation, connecting to the World Wide Web is a cinch thanks to the high-speed wireless internet. Baybarlyn is delightfully spacious and can easily accommodate a large group of people, but if you’d like to break away from the crowd, you have only to walk outside and onto the short private path that leads to a gorgeous beach featuring some of the best shelling in the world. It is also a leisurely stroll away from the peaceful Pine Island Sound, where you can relax and watch boats float by on their way to and from the marina. You might even spot a manatee lounging in the quiet waters. Baybarlyn’s location on the island is perfect: It’s within walking/biking distance of the shops and restaurants in Captiva Proper, but it’s far enough away from the “town hub” to feel exotic and isolated. This house’s placement allows you to make your vacation whatever you want it to be, whether you desire adventure or relaxation. It is an ideal place to stay whether you’re a couple looking to spend a romantic week together or a large family with big beach holiday dreams. A sign that hangs above the formal dining table says it all: “Life is good at the beach.” Life IS good at the beach -- and it’s better at Baybarlyn.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1953
About the owner: Charles and Lillian Paschall were so charmed by this sleepy tropical island that they purchased the property and built the house. This private & secluded house and property has been enjoyed and cherished by four generations of our family. We hope you enjoy this Captiva paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Captiva Island:
My Grandparents first visited the Island in 1951 and fell in love with it. They loved the island and it's natural beauty, great fishing, shelling, white beaches and breath taking sunsets.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It a a great place without a hectic schedule. We can get together here and just enjoy family and friends and relaxing on the beach. The house sits on over an acre and we love the privacy and space, . I enjoy walking up and down the beach in the surf. You can get anywhere on bike and most places on foot. It is nice because the beach lets the kids entertain themselves while the adults can relax, read, watch the sunset. It has something for everyone. It is safe, so we don't have to worry about the kids wandering around a bit, and there is plenty for them to do with all their energy. Overall, having a house with some land really makes the summer get-together with the family a really special time. It will always be part of my fond memories.
