Or, plan a longer get away - Book a week now for your reunion with your family in this beautiful and special place. You can make any date a special occasion in Dillon Beach!
We first found our home that way, my in-laws gave us all a week in this very house. We all coordinated our summer vacations, spent the spring planning the fun we would have, and then all gathered for a great family week of fun! We loved it so much, we bought the house!
Every season is beautiful at the coast, fog can surround you one minute, then sun the next. You never know what to expect, even in the next 10 minutes! Beautiful views and a family friendly house - You can't believe how quiet and beautiful it can be on the California Coast.
Come vacation in Dillon Beach! Our property sits atop a mountain overlooking the beautiful whitewater of the Pacific Ocean and to the other side, Tomales Bay, famous for Hog Island Oysters. Our Dillon Beach vacation property is on a corner at the top of the hill, with both bay and ocean views. From the great room, there are nearly 360 degrees of views.
The coast is just gorgeous at this time of year. The weather can be warm or cool, even in the same day! Fog or clear skies, you never really know, but it's all wonderful in our California Beach vacation rental home, Almost Paradise.
A huge deck comes off the kitchen, directly connected to the dining room. The deck has incredible views of the area, a BBQ, and space for quite a few people. Off the deck is a staircase leading to the fully fenced yard, fun for kids and Fido alike. Also on the lower level is a wonderful little hideaway, our greenhouse. You can sit and getaway from it all with a cup of tea, and kids love to dig in the dirt and explore all around.
We have plenty of parking which is usually quite a problem for folks in the Oceana Marin area of Dillon Beach. We can take 4 cars in our driveway, plus one in the garage.
We sleep up to 12 in our 5 bedroom home, with 3 full bathrooms. The house is very big, with most of it being taken up by the great room. We have Dish TV, a Wi-Fi network, DVD and VHS players and movies, and a wonderful library collection of books in almost every room.
This is one of the largest, and most beautiful vacation homes Dillon Beach has to offer. We extensively renovated the home in 2000, which marks our home as very modern and updated in contrast to many Dillon Beach vacation rentals you will find. Kitchen is a chef designed cooking heaven. There is an antique chopping block, microwave/convection oven, stove and a huge over-sized fridge with side freezer.
Walk along the hilltop to the end of the street for some of the best hiking in West Marin. Or head down the hill to spend the day at one of the best beaches in Northern California - the only dog friendly beach I know of, as well as the only one I know that will allow BarBQue's and fire pits. Watch fog roll into Bodega Head from this stunning Dillon Beach vacation rental!
Head down to the beach for a BBQ, and watch lovely sunsets. Walk along looking for seashells, bird watching, and just smelling the great ocean air. Dillon Beach is a magical place, come see why!
This home is really amazing and gorgeous! It was crafted to be a retirement dream home, so the house is really a step above a lot of the available homes here. Very comfortable and family friendly, the owners have 5 young grandchildren who often enjoy the beach house. It is also very easy to have a retreat or multi-generational gathering, plenty of room for all, plus most of the main living area is very accessible for anyone with disabilities.

Not far from there is the lighthouse, and places where you can pull over to the side of the road to see the Sea Lions bathing on the rocks. The small town of Tomales has a great restaurant, The William Tell, and without a doubt the world's best bakery. Buy local cheeses at Diekman's Store. There are two old churches in town, the Catholic Church overlooks Highway 1, and the Presbyterian is just up the road....moreless

Coming Back to Paradise!
Coming Back to Paradise!
Our family loved this BEACH HOUSE! There was 6 of us and we all had our own bedrooms, which were very comfortable. Loved the large deck, view was beautiful. Loved the "Magic Garden" my granddaughter loved playing in. We named it Magic Garden. We were lucky to see a family of baby quails. 6 little babies! The deer were beautiful, a big papa deer would come and visit and rest in the yard next door. We watched him from the back deck. I loved the house because it sits on a corner in a court. We would fly kites in the court, and were safe from any incoming traffic. Lots of parking too, we parked a 16 foot boat, truck and 2 more cars in the driveway and one car in the garage! Loved the entry of the house with its little gate and cute, cute birdhouse. Loved the kitchen, and how it opened out to the deck. The Kitchen had an enormous counter top, very nice! The refrigerator was very big and very nice and could hold all the food we brought for the week. The kitchen table was big and sturdy and we all had fabulous meals at this wonderful table. Living room very comfortable seating with lots of lighting and tables. WiFi was great! TV was great. The master bedroom was awesome with its huge shower. There was plenty of hot water for everyone! We loved how you could go out to the deck from the two bedrooms, we slept with the patio door opened, lots of fresh sea air! Lots of clean linen, washer and dryer on site and used by us daily! Loved the downstairs, two bedrooms were very comfortable, loved watching VCR movies with my granddaughter and sitting at the little chairs and table provided for the little ones. Olivia my granddaughter loved all the stuff animals and toys! She loved to go up and down the stairs. It was nice that the door could be closed from the down stairs area too. Heaters worked wonderfully, we were all cozy and warm. The Beach Pass was a nice addition too. The home owner very, very nice and accommodating. It is such a pleasure staying at "It's Almost Paradise" It was "Total Paradise" for our family, we will definitely be back Thank you!

Owner response: We just love it when families enjoy the same things we do about our home. The beauty of the area, the views, and the wildlife are some of our favorites, too. So glad you enjoyed your week, we look forward to having you again.

I loved this house and it worked out perfectly for my family. There is lots of room and for a five bedroom the rooms were perfect size. The downstairs gives you lots of privacy and leads out to the yard which was a plus. Kitchen and dining area were roomy as we had up to three people at once working in the kitchen. We could have used a few more larger cooking pans and tools for the bbq but we managed just fine. I can't say enough about the views from this house; they were beautiful. It is high on the mountain but that gives you a beautiful view of the entire area. We loved it and I'll definitely be back.

Owner response: We do love our hill top view! As we are at the very top of Oceana Marin, we provide a free beach pass, to be able to drive up and down our beautiful hill. Thank you for letting us know about some missing items, we will make sure to correct that for your next visit. We do want everyone to feel they have everything they need to make their visit with us easy and special We look forward to your next visit, and remember that returning guests receive one night free.
Although I did not rent from this website, I rented from the rental agent Carolyn Moore. This house was comfortable, great for kids and adults alike! The four days we spent here were wonderful, thanks in part to this great house. My only suggestion is to stock the kitchen with more cookware and utensils. We had 10 people, and not a pot or pan large enough to cook 10 servings of anything. We also were lacking a large knife and utensils for the bbq. Thanks again!

Owner response: So glad you enjoyed your stay! We appreciate knowing what could make your stay more enjoyable. We make an effort to make sure there are enough things properly stocked to accommodate the number of people our home holds, and will correct the problem. We have just arrived here today, and a quick inventory does show that some things have "walked away", which does happen. Thank you for letting us know how we can make sure our future guests don't have the same problem.
Family get together in May 2013
Family get together in May 2013
Hi Lori, Our group just had a very fun time at your rental house. The house equiped everything that our group needed and much more. It was so close to the beach and had very nice view from the living room. However, it was foggy most of the time we were there so we didn't get to enjoy it that much. Only if I could control nature, right ? :-). The only downside about this place is the bathroom in the Master bedroom. It got some smell of old and damp carpet. Other than that, it is a beautiful and enjoyable place for family get together. Thanks Lori for for making our trip so enjoyable. --An

Owner response: We're so glad you enjoyed such a great Mother's Day at the beach! What a fun way to celebrate a special time all together. Thank you for letting me know about the carpet, it is being cleaned this week. We always want to keep our home up and appreciate knowing if something has gotten by our housekeeper's attention.

Great Home for families
Great Home for families
We stayed at the home on a last minute whim with 6 adults and 5 kids. The house was delightful and really kid friendly. AS opposed to some other homes that we've rented, this one wasn't overly laden with all kinds of fragile items that you had to be super careful about (especially with toddlers and young children). There was ample space for gathering in the common areas like the dining room and living room. There was lots of wood available for the fireplace cause it gets really windy and cold in the evening next to the coast. The beach was a 3 minute drive down the hill (could be walkable but it would be really tough for most people), but we couldn't seem to find the beach pass. So on the day we went down to the beach we ended up having to pay for parking (ranges between $5 to $7 dollars). WE couldn't seem to find the appropriate instructions in the house for beach access (which I hope the owners can look into further). There is a beautiful view of the ocean from high up the hill through most of the upper home (including a bank of windows in the living/dining rooms). The house has some really unique features which were sources of entertainment for our young kids (3-5 year olds). For example, two bedrooms are separated from the main floor by a carpeted spiral staircase. The kids enjoyed having their own 'space' but we ended up needing an adult down there at night to make sure they slept okay and didn't hurt anyone or anything. The house also has a garden (with both covered and uncovered portions) which the kids really enjoyed exploring. Lots of deer came through in the nearby open fields and there were 3 pairs of binoculars that we used. There was also a small collection of toys that entertained the kids on the last day (good for toddlers and younger children). The kitchen supplies were adequate but if you cook frequently you might want to bring your own specific tools and spices, etc.. The sheets and blankets were okay but on the older side. The towels were well-worn. Water pressure good throughout the house and all the heaters seemed up to their task. The one main area in Tomales is a 15 minute drive and includes the fabulous bakery. There is pretty limited selection in the main store. If you're on your way out to the house, I woudl probably stop at Petaluma for full groceries to stock up with. Overall, we had a very enjoyable time and would love to return to this house. Small improvements would probably make the trip even more satisfying

Owner response: We especially love family groups and children, and often are at the beach house with our 5 small grandchildren, so we like to have it comfortable. But, we also like to have our nice things around us! The beach pass should have been given to you when you checked in, sorry it wasn't. That is why we have on site rental agent. You are welcome to call either her or me whenever you have any questions or problems. Both of our contact info is in the binder and on your contract. We look forward to you returning!

Owner response: We really enjoy the "Great Room" concept of our home. People can be cooking, while others are playing games in the dining room and others are watching TV or reading or chatting and enjoying views in the living room, but you are all close enough to be a part of everything! And if you need some space, we've got that too, the lower level family room is perfect for teenagers and kids to have their own space, or anyone who needs just a little quiet spot. And then, there's the deck or the greenhouse, too! Plenty of room for everyone.
Homeschool Mom & Friends Retreat
Homeschool Mom & Friends Retreat
At the beginning of each semester, my teacher friends and I get away to spend some time together to plan and prepare our lesson plans and take some time to breathe, see the bigger picture, focus on our long term goals as moms and teachers, and then we pray with and over each other so we can make it through another busy semester as moms, teachers, wives, carpool drivers, field trip coordinators, etc. My friends and I loved this location! The views of the ocean were breathtaking, the warmth of the sun on our face as we read and chatted on the deck was awesome, and the inside of the house was perfect as we could all spread out our various books in multiple places and plan without feeling like we were on top of each other. We didn't leave the house the entire time, except for a quick walk outside to get a better glimse of the ocean.....which was very windy and cold (it's January!), but quite refreshing actually! We didn't turn on the TV, or watch movies, or anything except just hang out as friends and listened to encouraging podcast messages, and use our computers and the internet to plan. I'm bringing my family back now in June and can't wait to explore the nearbye surroundings and actually go down to the ocean and take advantage of the location when it's warmer out. The house had everything you need for a great stay, and I LOVED the downstairs area....it was like my own little private suite! It was a wonderful weekend getaway and we all felt very rejuvinated after our stay there. We hope to do it again next year sometime!

Almost Paradise was well-named!
Our rental experience at Almost Paradise at Dillon Beach gave our family a memorable week together! The website gave us good information to make our choice. The home was very clean, comfortable, well accommodated, had everything we needed. My communications with the owners helped me a great deal in deciding on this home. The location and view were spectacular - everything we were told it would be. Great experience overall!

Owner response: We truly do want each renter's experience to be special. We love sharing our home, and helping to create beautiful memories. We took our name from the song - "Almost Paradise, We're Knocking on Heaven's Door, Almost Paradise, How could We Ask For More?" Sort of cheesy, but we like it!

Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: We first stayed at Almost Paradise as renters, in the summer of 1999. Our family had always held a family reunion at Tahoe, but that year decided on the beach. It was love at first sight! We spent a lovely week, our first visit to Dillon Beach, and by the end of the week, we had decided to buy. We were living in Santa Rosa at the time, and continued to rent it out as a vacation rental. However, after a year, we decided to make the Beach House our permanent home. We moved out to Dillon in August 2000, and began renovating and remodeling in 2001. We lived there full time until 2006, when life brought us to Orange County. We now enjoy sharing our home again and hosting families, couples and groups in what we consider to be the most beautiful place on earth! We know you will enjoy your visit.
Why the Owner Chose Dillon Beach:
Dillon Beach is a magical place. Many people have come here to heal from injury, bond with their families, and enjoy the beauty of Dillon Beach's landscape. There is indeed an energy that can be felt upon arrival, and when we visited this town for the first time years ago for a family reunion, we felt it, and decided to move here. Almost Paradise is a comfortable family home, decorated with our collections of antiques, art, quilts and books. Yet, we are perfectly set up for kids and teenagers, as well as a corporate retreat group. We encourage you to use our collection of dishes and glassware to enjoy a beautiful dining experience. Or, you can just as easily bring paper plates and still enjoy the beauty of the home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Relaxing on top of a mountain overlooking the Bay and the ocean is an experience in and of itself. With an incredible beach just down the hill, leisurely walks in the neighborhood, and great hiking just a block away, this house serves the needs of all who enter. There is enough room in the house for everyone to have their own space, or gather all together in the Great Room area or the deck. We even have a crazy 'Dr. Suess' stairway down to the lower level where there are 2 bedrooms, a full bathroom and a family room.
