We had a lovely time staying at this gorgeous, serene property recently. The photos do not do it justice and the surrounds and house are even better in person. The listing description was mostly accurate but there were 2 details we did not understand from reading the listing and I thought it would be worth pointing these out to help future renters: The property is really a 1 bedroom farmhouse consisting of a truly gorgeous master bedroom with views of the lake, dressing room, bathroom and open plan kitchen and living room with 2 x 1 seater arm chairs. Outside is a beautiful undercover patio with a woodfire oven. The TV is located inside the bedroom (not in the living room). There is SEPERATE room with 2 bunk beds about 25m away from the main house, attached to the smaller house that the owner JC was living in while we were staying (I believe he is not always there but has been for the last 6 months). The 2nd room with the bunk beds does not have a bathroom or tiolet, mirror or fan and is also in the same room as the laundry. This was something we did not understand prior to booking the property. One night it was extremely hot and we did not think we would be able to sleep in the room but thankfully a storm broke and it cooled down and we were OK to sleep there. All in all it was OK so long as you don't mind walking outside to go to the bathroom and have a shower. The other thing we didn't understand was the proximity to the beach. The listing says "Walk to the beach" however we actually did this one day when we lost the keys to our hire car and it took 40mins to power walk to the beach. It then too an additional 45mins to power walk along the beach to get to the village of Jose Ignacio. The property is a 5-7min drive to Jose Ignacio. Many of the other reviewers marked the property as being "Good for tourists without a car". This is not the owners fault but I found this misleading since I cannot imagine how anyone would manage without a car! The property was exceptionally clean and the care takers were very lovely. The owner JC was extremely helpful and went out of his way for us a number of times. We didn't realize at first that he would be on the property but this turned out to be an advantage as he was very helpful when things went wrong and generally kept out of our way. All in all I would highly recommend the property to anyone providing you are aware of the two things I listed above. It was an gorgous, authentic, uruguayan experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

Antonio CappellariDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I am a little dissapointed due to the fact that the caregivers were no longer living in the house, no one was waiting for me, I had to jump the fence and try to open a side door..it was not pleasant. The house and the grounds are beautiful, that is true but the second room smelled like mold and it was wet, we ended up taking the mattress to the living room..so it was not ideal. The horses were not there so tht was something else. The worse part is that I paid for a house with the caregivers, the horses, the whole thing but at the last minute I found out that everything changed. I was supposed to get some money back but I still did not get it..It is a shame because I was so excited and my husband and my family from Argentina..it did not work out as I expected...I ended up cooking and making my bed as usual...Owner response: Hi Future Renters ! I disagree with this review and I think it is very unfair. But I think it will make other renters understand what they get when they rent in the LOW SEASON, (MAY 1 to NOVEMBER 30). There are things that you don't get in the LOW SEASON and thats why the rate its a third of the price you pay in HIGH SEASON. You don't get the horses and if you read the page you will see that it is offered with maid service, they will make the beds and clean the house for you daily; but the cooking is not included at any time of the year, its something that you arrange with the caregivers and you pay that extra by the hour directly to them. The caregivers where not living at the property when she was there, (LOW SEASON MAY) I email you the phone of the caregivers off the house for you to call them when you where 30 minutes away from the ranch... for them to come and wait for you... but they never got a phone call from you. I AM REALLY SORRY YOU HAD TO JUMP THE FENCE. The second room was cold because I forgot to tell the caretakers to turn the heater on... MY BAD... because I made a mistake with your reservation, I thought it was a couple only... sorry for that.... But that room does not smell like mold... it was just cold ! Its a great room if the heater is turned on ! The reason I agreed to give you a refund was because that room was cold and not ready for you... SORRY AGAIN !!! You made your reservation and immediately you found out that the horses are only there from December to March and then they go to a big ranch to spend the winter. When you found that out you where not happy... and I gave you the option to cancel and get all your money back but your choice was to go anyway knowing that the horses where not there. You did not find out everything last minute, and making the bed was your choice because the service was available but you choose not to call them; and the cooking I explained that is not included is something you arrange with the caregivers by the hour when you want it. I called you and explained to you why you did not get your Money back right away... and you where ok with that. I HOPE THIS REALLY HELP OTHER RENTERS TO UNDERSTAND THE LOW SEASON FROM MAY 1 TO NOVEMBER 30. Thank you, and sorry that it did not work out for you. JC MALLMANN.

Quelle belle visite !!! Merci......Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at the chacra. The property is gorgeous and the house is nice and well-kept. Pictures don't do it justice at all! We expected to spend our days on the beach, but found we had just as good of a time lounging at the property--it's so peaceful. The beaches in Jose Ignacio are gorgeous as well! And the best part--Xamandu and Isabel (they live at the property in a separate home) are amazing! They were always so helpful. JC the owner is wonderfully helpful as well and answered all of our questions. We enjoyed it so much that we started looking at property in the area ourselves! It's gorgeous and staying at this chacra will make you fall in love with the place.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

Our experience here was no less then flawless. You have to understand or care to understnad the Uruguain way to know what I am about to express. The home and the surrounding grounds are exactley what we had in mind and on top of that you add Zamandu and Esmerleda the caretakers and taking care of food, the home, the horses and of course our requests made contributed to one of the most enjoyable experiences we have had the pleasure to know. The food that Zamandu created and I mean created was perfect!!! The kid has some serious skills. This combination is why people gravitate towards what is know as the South American Riviera. Yes you can stay at a condo or hotel, but you are missing out on why Urugauy is so special. The homes proximity to Jose Ignacio the celebrity hangout. The surf and beaches of La Barra and of course the glitz and glamour of Punta Del Este is perfect. Now open up your minds and take a trip up the coast to La Paloma as well as Punta Del Diablo and you will understand why the proximity of Chacra Maritima Mallmann to all Uruguay has to offer you will truely understand why this home is perfect in so many ways. We loved it so much we purchased 125 acres in Rocha and are modeling our development after this wonderful experience we had at Chacra Maritima Mallmann. I would highly recomend that if you are considering Uruguay as a destination that you consider Chacra Maritima Mallmann as your first choice. By the way when you are there please tell Zamandu and Esmerlada that Marco, Curtiss and Bijan said hello.... -Curtiss Alderson Newport Beach Ca.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We stayed at the chacra for 6 days in late January 2011, and enjoyed every minute. As previous guests have mentioned, the location is ideal, the service provided by Yamandu and Isabel is superb, and we espcially enjoyed romping around the 10-acre grounds with Sombra, the energetic 2 year-old German Shepard. I suppose the ideal weather - sunny, mid-80s, slight breeze, and low humidity - had something to do with how thoroughly we enjoyed our stay. And regarding the homemade pizzas - Yamandu is an excellent cook, unfortunately my wife and I could only eat four of them between us. We'll try to do better next time. Our vacation exceeded all expectations, due lmainly to the comfort and amenities provided by the chacra. Oh, and if anyone is interested in learing kite boarding, there's an oceanside lagoon at the bottom of the road perfect for beginners and experienced riders alike. Thank you, Juan. Sincerely, Greg and Sheireen (USA)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We were looking for a property to stay in Jose Ignacio over Christmas and New Years which is an incredibley popular time and can be very difficult unless booking months in advance! Instead what we booked was this chacra slightly outside of the town in the beautiful surrounding countryside. We were very VERY happy with our choice! The chacra provided us with a truly relaxing vacation and although we had expected to be spending most of our time during the day and evenings in Jose Ignacio itself, which has great restaurants and amazing beaches, we found that we spent most of the time just relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous surroundings by ourselves at the chacra! We have a little baby who slept far better than ever, probably due to the fresh country air and light-filled comfortable farmhouse, which was a huge bonus. The farmhouse was suitably rustic and charming and yet had a very modern bathroom and lighting and touches and made it really comfortable. I eventually got out of the hammock one of the afternoons to go on a horse ride down to the beach which was fantastic and I definitely recommend. The horses and lovely natured and gentle and that was a real highlight. The evenings we enjoyed pizza in the mud oven which was so delicious and we felt very looked after by Yamandu and Isabel who made us feel very welcome and at home in our own chacra. A great holiday experience and one that I can very much recommended ! Thank you !Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Kathryn ! Im happy that your BABY slept better than ever at The CHACRA. Its great also that you where able to go out with the horses to the beach and countryside. Yamandu really knows how to make GREAT PIZZA.... I LOVE PIZZA and its one of my treats when i'm there. Anything out of the MUD OVEN comes out great. I will be happy to have you BACK and hopefully I can meet you guys when you come back in February ! Thank you for your review, this will really help future guests; J.C. Mallmann.

we have been here 15 days with my family where we have been very happy. The quality of the way we have been recieved showed us the excellence of our vacation selection.the diligence and friendlyness of the staff Isabel and Yamandu provided us with excellent cooking, claning /mantainence/and great advice. The pictures dont show the beauty of the place.Day by day you can appreciate the small details that make this place a lovely villa. You get a lot more than you excpected to get for your money. The information provided by the owner was precise and concise. I would deeply recomend this vacation side to anyone who appreciates good lifestyle.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Isabel and Yamandu they are both great and provide TOP service, its great that you felt the same way I feel ! I can definitely recommend this chacra which is located in serene countryside, close to gorgeous beaches and the famous little fishing village of Jose Ignacio. My wife and I just spend 8 nights here and our only complaint is that is was too short. The house looks out to a private lake and enjoys lovely sunsets each night. The farmhouse is very sweet. It's filled with light and well maintained and with very well thought out details that make it extra comfortable. This is obviously the property used and enjoyed by its owners not just a rental property. We have the feeling the owners are fanatics of music since there are various music systems in the house and Bose speakers throughout the house and out on the balcony ! A great little find! Our absolute highlight was the evenings spent with a glass of Uruguayan Tannat while the sun was going down and being served the most delicious pizzas out of the typical Uruguayan mud oven ! Bliss ! We will definitely be back ! All the best. Owner response: Olaf ! I have spend a lot of time creating this getaway for myself.... So its great that you enjoyed all the little details that make the difference ! I am really happy that you guys had a great time at the Ranch ! THIS WILL REALLY HELP FUTURE GUESTS TO UNDERSTAND HOW UNIQUE THIS PLACE IS !!! THANK YOU, J.C.
