Casa Adobe is perfect for a couple or small family looking for a quiet and private getaway in San Cristobal that really feels like a home.
Located in a leafy residential area away from the traffic and noise of the city center, this spacious one-bedroom house is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether you're enjoying a leisurely breakfast sitting out on the terrace in the warmth of the morning sun, or you're having a cozy night in front of the fireplace with a glass of red wine! Situated at the foot of one of the beautiful pine-covered mountains surrounding San Cristobal, it's hard to believe the city center is only a few minutes drive away.
Casa Adobe is a truly unique and special property. Combining stunning contemporary Mexican architecture with traditional materials of the area - adobe, stone, wood and brick - this newly-built house showcases the incredible craftmanship of its local builders. Everywhere you look there is something to marvel at from the thick adobe walls to the elaborate stonework and high beamed ceilings and wooden floors.
The house is very comfortably and attractively furnished (everything is new) with lots of custom-designed pieces, and there are many decorative details to enjoy, such as the beautiful ironwork from local artisans and colorful handwoven textiles and handicrafts from the Mayan villages surrounding San Cristobal.
There is a full kitchen with granite counter tops, brand new appliances (full-size fridge, gas range/oven, microwave) and all the extras, such as coffee maker, orange juicer, blender and toaster - and lots of handpainted dishes, glasses, pots and pans! The kitchen leads out through French doors onto a completely secluded garden terrace filled with terracotta pots, cactuses and flowers - and a table with seating for four, perfect for relaxed outdoor eating.
The house has two handcrafted, wood-burning fireplaces to take the chill off on winter evenings, one in the living room and the other in the upstairs master bedroom, which is an impressive room with a king-sized bed, large walk-in closet and sunny en-suite bathroom with skylights. It also has a lovely balcony which is perfect for reading a book or enjoying your morning coffee!
On the ground level, the living room is a great place to relax and listen to music, play games or watch television. The room also doubles as a second bedroom, with a brand new double-size pull out sofa bed (that sleeps one adult very comfortably) and guest bathroom.
Upon your arrival in your casa, fresh flowers await you and you will find all the ingredients you need for a Continental breakfast for your first morning (including freshly-ground coffee from the highlands of Chiapas). The owners live in the house next door to assist you in any way they can, but your privacy is assured during your stay.
RENTAL INCLUDES: utilities, WiFi internet connection (for your laptop computer), use of local cellular phone, flat screen TV, SKY TV with many English-language stations, DVD, CD player/stereo system, hairdryer in bathroom, iron and ironing board, firewood for chimneys, bottled drinking water.
LOCATION: Casa Adobe is located in a very quiet and safe residential area approximately 4 km / 5 min or so drive (or cab ride) to the center of San Cristobal. It's an easy drive that takes you past a big supermarket (making it very convenient to buy groceries). There are also two traditional open air fruit and vegetable markets within a few minutes driving distance from the house. We love the peace and quiet of the area and to be surrounded by trees and birds, yet the house is also in close proximity to the center of San Cristobal with its many shops, restaurants, street markets and lively nightlife.
If you don't have a car, radio taxis can be called to pick you up from the house (we work with several very good and reliable taxi drivers), or colectivo buses and taxis (both are plentiful) can be found a 5 - 8 minute walk from the house (taxi to center costs around USD $2.50).
ADDITIONAL SERVICES:
Maid service included once a week (additional maid service available at extra cost).
Property owners will be available during your stay to answer any questions you may have about Casa Adobe or San Cristobal in general. As owners of CIELO Y TIERRA TOURS, a local tour operator specializing in cultural excursions in the Maya highlands of Chiapas, they are very knowledgeable about the area and are happy to help you with any travel queries you may have. (Please see link below for further information about Cielo y Tierra Tours. Guests of Casa Adobe are offered a 10% discount on all tours. )

Casa adobe is off the charts beutiful. It's an arcitechual gem.The care and love they obviously put into designing and building the house really shows. Joanna and alex are great people and were amazing hosts. The half day tour we took with alex was one of the most fascinating days of our trip. If you are interested in taking tours in the area I would highly reccomend booking with alex (and book early his tours are private and very personalized and it's only him running them so he books up fast). What alex offers as a tour experience is quite unique and unlike anything any of the other tour operators in the area are offering. It's an experience not to be missed. Overall we loved everything about our stay at casa adobe and I couldn't reccomend it highly enough. 5++ stars.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed at the Casa Adobe for one month this past summer. We highly recommend it. The combination of the beauty of the house, its location, and the attentiveness of Joanna and Alex, make it a really lovely place to stay. It’s true that the house is even prettier in person than it looks in the photos. Its architecture is carefully considered, from the use of space, the natural adobe brick construction, to the finer details such as the staircase lighting and the Mexican plant pottery. Joanna and Alex welcomed us with great warmth. When we arrived to the house after two long days of driving from Mexico City, we found the house stocked with fresh bars of soap in the bathrooms, and coffee and some basic groceries so that we wouldn’t have to go grocery shopping immediately. They also supplied us with information about transportation, restaurants, and shopping so that we could quickly familiarize ourselves with San Cristobal. It is difficult to convey in this short review how much they care for their guests, and at the same time are are respectful of their guests’ privacy. The house is outside the old centre of San Cristobal. Some visitors to San Cristobal might prefer to be more centrally located, but we found it easy to go to the city centre with the ‘colectivo buses,’ and enjoyed the easy access to the villages around San Cristobal, the quiet, and the neighborhoods near the house.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

Casa adobe was an amazing place to come home to after the busy days we had while in San cristobal. The architecture was beautiful and all the accommodations were perfect. Casa adobe is far enough outside center-city to enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding woods and close enough to enjoy dinner at any of the restaurants near the zocola. Joanna and Alex were terrific hosts and provided us with great information about the city and things to do.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My first reaction upon walking into the house was simply, "Wow." The photos indicated that the house was beautiful and well-appointed, but I hadn't anticipated just how beautiful -- and so spacious! Alex and Joanna were marvelous hosts -- my day with Alex touring Chamula and Zinacantan will, quite literally, never be forgotten -- and being able to retreat from the noise and bustle of town made for a lovely stay. Waking up among birdsong and watching the mist unfold from the mountains above the house was a highlight. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Our trip to San Cristobal de las Casas was magical, thanks in large part to our ten-day stay in the beautiful Casa Adobe guest home, an architectural gem. Located in a quiet neighborhood ten minutes (by taxi, about $2.50 US) from the center of town, Casa Adobe was our refuge after long days exploring and experiencing the beautiful and exciting state of Chiapas. My wife and I stayed in the spacious upstairs bedroom, and our adult daughter took the sleep sofa in the equally inviting living room. The decor was simple and tasteful and included exquisite works by local artisans. Amenities were plentiful, right down to breakfast makings for our first mornings in the pretty kitchen and dining area. There are two large bathrooms, plenty of storage space, and an outdoor patio to enjoy the clear, crisp San Cristobal weather. Hosts Alex and Joanna made us feel more than welcome. They were attentive to our needs and offered valuable travel advice, yet were respectful of our privacy. We recommend Casa Adobe without reservation and would certainly make it our home away from home again on future visits.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We had the good fortune of spending 2 weeks in January at this wonderful property. Joanna and Alex are wonderful, helpful, gracious hosts and possess a wealth of knowledge about San Cristobal and the surrounding areas. Pictures of the house on this website truly reflect the property. Everything is new and extremely comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the house is located just a 5 minute drive from the center of town. San Cristobal offers a wide variety of restaurants so we never felt like we had to stay home for all our meals but after a full day of touring the beautiful town and surrounding areas we were often happy to spend the evening in front of the fireplace. It truly felt like home and we are sure we will one day return to this wonderful vacation residence. We often went sightseeing on our own but also highly recommend touring with Alex as he is truly the best tour guide we have ever met. He is passionate about Mexico's indigenous people and respects their customs and beliefs. A tour with Alex will provide the visitor with a fabulous cultural experience.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

About the owner: We are a Mexican/British couple who have lived in San Cristobal for many years. It was a dream of ours to buy a piece of land and build a house in adobe, and we have fufilled this first with our house and now the recently completed Casa Adobe. We own a tour company, Cielo y Tierra Tours, which specializes in cultural excursions in the Maya highlands surrounding San Cristobal. We are available to answer any questions you may have about the area.
Why the Owner Chose San Cristobal de las Casas:
We have chosen to live in the beautiful colonial city of San Cristobal de Las Casas because of its culture, history, natural beauty, people and climate. Because San Cristobal lies in a valley high in the mountains it can be chilly at night in winter, but that combination of brilliant mountain sunshine during the day and the outdoor lifestyle that goes with it, followed by cozy nights tucked up in front of the fireplace is unbeatable!
We enjoy the peace and quiet of the area that Casa Adobe is located in, and to be surrounded by trees and birds, yet we are in easy reaching distance of the city center with restaurants, shops, street markets and nightlife.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We maintain Casa Adobe with care and pride, and we provide many extra details to ensure you have an enjoyable and comfortable stay.
We always put in the casa the ingredients for a Continental breakfast (juice, bread, jam, fruit, butter, cereal, milk, tea and coffee) so that you won't have to go and find a grocery store as soon as you arrive.
