St. Marys is a city with roots as far back as the 1500's. It is the 2nd oldest city in America (after St. Augustine, FL ).
During Summer, everyone will love the nearby Aquatic Park, just 1.3 miles from the cottage! A zero depth entry water playground with sprinklers, water cannons, slides, and a million other ways to get wet! A huge bucket dumps 300 gallons of water on those below every 5 minutes. Take a ride on the Orange Crush Enclosed-Twister Slide--you're down in 5 seconds! The four lane lap pool is attached to the slide catch pool. (There is always one lap lane available to lap swimmers.) Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: My husband David and I invite you to be our guests at 'Slip Away.' We've made every effort to give our vintage mill cottage coastal flair that is both comfortable and contemporary without feeling fussy or formal. Everything in our entirely rehabbed cottage is newly purchased for the cottage - nothing is old, worn or cast-off stuff from somewhere else. We want our home to feel like vacation, not like Grandma's guest room (even though we all love Grandma!)
Why the Owner Chose St. Marys: David and I completed a month-long road trip through the Southeast during the summer of 2004. We travelled over 4,800 miles and visited most of the major destinations. On on our way from Amelia Island, FL, to Savannah, GA, we planned to make a brief stop in St. Marys to try to get a glimpse of the HGTV dream house. We ended up staying the night and fell in love with this charming, small town. We were reminded of the beach towns we had visited as kids -- towns that today are so over-developed, and so outrageously expensive to visit that the idea of owning was beyond our means. We loved the feel of St. Marys, the mild climate and the bluest skies you'll ever see. We seized the opportunity to make St. Marys our home away from home. We plan to retire here when life allows.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: We appreciate that we can be so far away from our day-to-day lives, and yet be close enough to the activities we enjoy in one of the most naturally beautiful places remaining on the East Coast. Our cottage is in a quiet, restful setting under the canopy of an old Oak tree hung with moss. Within a few blocks is the downtown area where we enjoy shopping, dining and the many seasonal festivals and events held year-round. From here, you can take the ferry to Cumberland Island, a true national treasure - there are times we've had miles of beach all to ourselves to enjoy.
