We had a beautiful week in St. Mary's, GA but returned home to rain/sleet/snow in Ohio, so we're ready to come back to Slip Away! Very comfortable and homey cottage - we enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was just my husband and I, but two couples could stay and maintain privacy as the bedrooms are separated and each with a bath. The cottage was very clean. We loved the close proximity to the Cumberland Island ferry as that makes for an early morning to be there at 8 AM. We did this twice and it was nice to be just a few blocks away both at the early morning hour and after returning from CI exhausted! I would recommend Slip Away to anyone. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved this beautiful cottage. It is located behind the historic district of St. Mary's, which had wonderful coffee shops, antique stores, boutiques, and great restaurants. St. Mary's is centrally located between several islands/beaches in Georgia and Florida.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank You! So glad your family chose SlipAway for your 20th Anniversary/Family Roadtrip! I'm so glad you enjoyed all the area has to offer, especially since this was your first trip to the South! Hope you'll come back and visit us again soon!

Slip Away Cottage is a lovely and cozy home in picturesque, historic St. Marys, GA. We stayed for 11 days and always found it a peaceful place to return to after a day of sightseeing. The house is immaculate, tastefully decorated, and most comfortable. The neighborhood is very quiet and the cottage is a 10 min. walk to the village of St. Marys. We enjoyed the shops, restaurants, seafood, and helpful villagers plus visits to Kingsland as well as day trips to Fernandina Beach (FL), the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Jekyll Island, and Crooked River State Park. We highly recommend going to the Cumberland Island National Seashore and taking the guided van tour to the North End of the island which is not accessible otherwise. Allow a day for the trip, but be sure to make reservations well in advance!! Historic Oak Grove Cemetery and Orange Hall in St. Marys are musts to see if you enjoy history. The trolly tour of the village is well worth while. The St. Marys Visitor Center has a wonderful exhibit and very help staff to answer questions. Owners, Cynthia and David, always responded very quickly to any questions we had and were most gracious hosts who offered suggestions and activities in the area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We so appreciate your lovely comments about the house, area and overall process of renting our home. It makes us so happy to hear when our guests share our love of this town and part of the world. There's so much to see and your suggestions are right on target!

The cottage is a wonderful base to explore the Georgia coast and Northern Florida. It is tastfully decorated with all the ameities you would need and very comfortable beds. Our stay was 2 wks and we were busy exploring every day. St. Marys is a quaint town filled with friendly and gentile people. We visited Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach and Historic District,as well as, Cumberland Island. The experience was wonderful.. We even got to see Oprah because Kingsland was voted "Lovetown USA" and she attended a rally at St Marys waterfront and she will be back! Great Fresh Seafood available at several local restaruants. I would highly recommend the cottage and the area for a comfortable, laid back vacation where you can be as busy as you'd like because there's so much to see and do.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for the great compliments! We're still jealous that you got to be interviewed for Oprah's TV show at the downtown Lovetown Rally! Hope you'll come back and visit us again!

We spent 11 great days in St. Mary's in late December early Janaury. The cottage was very comfortable, and we instantly felt at home there. I would defitely recommend to anyone. It would comfortable sleep 4. It had everything you need (except a kettle!) and the location was good for trips to northern Florida, the Golden Isles and Savanah. There is lots to do around. Not to be missed: Langs Seafood Marina, Cumberland Island, and fresh shrimp off the boat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the compliments, Sue! We try hard to provide all the comforts of home for our guests. I would happily have provided a kettle, there will definitely be one on for your return visit! So glad you enjoyed your time in our area. We love sharing "Georgia's Best Kept Secret" with our guests!

The cottage is lovely and so comfortable we didn't want to leave. We will definitely be back! We appreciated all the amenities - the washer, dryer, pots and pans. With kids, it was a necessity. We enjoyed our day trips to Cumberland Island, Jekyll Island and the Sea Turtle Center, visiting family in Savannah and Jacksonville Beach. We will most remember Cumberland Island and the beautiful oaks all over St Marys!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you! Thank you for being available to answer questions, make recommendations, and to hear of the new adventures we learned about which we wanted to share with future guests. We are looking forward to our next "SlipAway".... We appreciated the comfort! We could not have enjoyed our stay had we been cramped in a hotel, eating every meal away and staying out and away from such a quiet community. Our most memorable meals were the ones we shared each day with one another around the kitchen table - prepared ourselves. But, Doc's Chicken -- sorry Colonel Sanders, you've been chopped!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I can't say with words how nice this cottage is!! Everthing is brand new. The owner was very helpful with any questions I had.The only draw back was there was not a deck to sit and have our gin and tonics. They have 4 nice chairs to sit outside in the very large driveway which was just fine. It is a little further to walk to town than some of the other rental cottages .But they are not as nice as this one.St.Mary's is a good hub to stay and explore So.Ga and No.Fl. .Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Tracy for the great compliments! I'm so happy that the cottage worked out so well for your family. I'm working on getting a deck/ patio/gazebo out back for those "gin & tonic" happy hours. I'm aiming for that in 2012 once I've got some more rental experience on the cottage and understand what will work best for our guests. I googled the distance from our house to either Osborne St (the main drag) or the Riverfront (over toward Lang's) both are about .5 miles in either direction (5 blocks). From the house to the spot where you pick up the ferry to Cumberland Island down on the Riverfront is .9 mile (estimated 18 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride for the average person.) Of course, there's always lots of free parking for those who prefer to drive downtown. We are one of a very small number of homes within walking distance of town -- most in St Marys are outside the historic district completely and as you point out, we're working to become the NICEST RENTAL of them all! We look forward to having you all come visit again!

Thank you for providing a delightful and comfortable cottage in such a neat, unspoiled and unhurried spot. A great getaway place. We all enjoyed our time here. We appreciated the coziness of the cottage and the decor - it was perfect - from the dining area to each bedroom. The kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed our trip to the Okeefenokee and Cumberland Island and just relaxing and visiting.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a most enjoyable week at this St. Marys cottage. The only place so far this winter we have had some warmer weather! The description of the cottage is perfect and the photos accurately depict the interior, including attractively decorated and being spotlessly clean! The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. We finally were able to bike ride, visit Cumberland Island and the Okefenokee Swamp. Try Lang's restaurant if you go, as it's delicious! Thank you again Cynthia for sharing your charming St. Marys cottage with us. We didn't give you much notice for arrival, but you certainly made everything so easy and convenient. All the best, Carrie and Eddie PalmerRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks, Carrie! You and your husband were our FIRST renters. Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. We worked really hard to get everything at the cottage "just right" and our housekeeper Paula does a fantastic job keeping it "spotlessly clean." So glad you chose us for your trip and we hope you'll visit with us again next year!

We found that the cottage was not only in prestine condition with everything that we needed for our stay, but that the location was perfect for accessing historical St. Marys and Cumberland Island National Seashore. The owner of the cottage was very easy to work with and available to the rentor should the need arise during your stay. We had no complaints at all and would certainly return for a future stay or recommend it to others....Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Martha! We look forward to your return visits. Feel free to call or email me anytime that you or your family find yourselves in the area. It was a pleasure having you.
