Imagine yourself driving "Over the River and through the Woods" to an elegant, yet cozy cabin that is situated in a setting of such tranquility and beauty that it is the perfect place to come together with family or friends and create the most special of memories. It is, in fact, located on a river island, which gives you greater peace and privacy. Built of high quality construction materials in 2004, River Island Retreat has a multitude of large windows in the living area- granting several picturesque views of the gorgeous Salmon River. One of the most spectacular of these views is from the loft, which includes relaxing chairs for curling up and reading. There is also a comfortable desk in the loft, which conveniently facilitates your laptop (Wifi available), and a printer is available for your use. Or, if you prefer, take a brief stroll down our wonderfully enchanted trail, through moss covered trees to the river's edge.
Kitchen:
Our spacious kitchen is full of everything you need for your stay, even a Cuisinart and Panini Press. Make a hot cup of coffee from our Krups coffee maker, or relax with a nice mug of hot chocolate by the fire. Also, use our stand-up mixer to create a tasty batch of cookies and let the aroma drift through the open floor plan of the cabin.
Bedrooms:
There are 3 bedrooms, and each bedroom has luxurious mattresses, pillows, and linens that will keep you snug and well-rested. The main floor master has a king bed, and its own bath with seperate tub and shower. The 2 upstairs bedrooms each have a queen bed. Table lamps by each bed make it easy to read in bed.
Location:
Our retreat is located less than an hour's drive from the Portland airport. Also it is less than a 1/2 hour to the major ski resorts at Mt. Hood.
Our Invitation to You:
We want to make your stay as comfortable and accommodating as possible. Please contact us via email or phone regarding any addtional questions. We are very confident that you will really enjoy your stay in our lovely cabin- especially in its incredible setting.

The home was beautiful and well equipped. Nestled in the woods over a bridge with the Salmon river right in your back yard. A beautiful deck across the whole back house and we cooked on the big gas grill. We celebrated an early Christmas and had a wonderful time. Our only real discouragement was there was no fireplace and when we finally got the gas stove lit, the carbon monoxide alarm went off. Also, the cable/satellite TV did not work and they do not have a Video Library. Bring your own movies. We would go back and rent in warmer weather. We were also not real impressed with the property management company handling this rental.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: I hope you had a wonderful time, and thank you for staying! We will be working with our manager to improve our service.

We started our Pacific NW vacation in this beautiful cabin & were spoiled! Anything you could need is here, from the outfitted kitchen to closet space galore to extremely comfortable beds to the rushing creek behind the house. This place was so well-designed, very thought-out, I'd want to live here if moved out to OR. Surrounded by trees and so much greenery, beautiful hikes & river strolls nearby, peaceful covered side deck w table & chairs for the rainy times, the owners have a gem here. One suggestion - we were unable to use the fireplace; it would have been so nice to enjoy a fire while listening to the creek and the rain.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Running our own business and raising our 7 children has taught us the importance of taking the time to relax and unwind. We love getting away to the cabin both to rest and rejuvenate, and also to spend time together creating more wonderful memories!
Why the Owner Chose Welches:
30 years ago we honeymooned in the Northwest, and fell in love with this part of the country. Over the years, we visited the area regularly, and decided to purchase the perfect Northwoods vactation retreat in 2008. We have enjoyed it so much that in the Fall of 2010 we moved to the Northwest.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin has been a wonderful getaway and base camp for day trips to many of the outdoor activities in the Mt. Hood area. Each season has its own beauty. In the evenings we love to curl up on the sofas and watch old movies or read a good book.
