You will love our beautiful home away from home, with its polished slate floors and updated features. But the best thing is being oceanfront!! Lots of resorts are on the ocean, but fewer units are ocean FRONT, meaning that there's nothing between your home and the ocean but a few steps across the lawn. Check out our pictures and we promise it will be even better once you arrive.
Any time is the perfect time for that great tropical get-away you've been meaning to take! You'll be sitting on your lanai at sunset, drinking a tropical beverage and enjoying those famous sunsets with that special someone (or someones!).
This 1 br/1 ba, completely updated condo is OCEANFRONT; there's nothing between you and the water, sand, turtles, and great snorkeling that are just about 40 feet from the lanai. The first floor location means you walk directly out to the pool area, bbq grills, and Maui's warm waters. The offshore reef keeps the strong surf at bay and makes the water here like a big, warm, turtle-filled bathtub. We absolutely love it and know you will, too.
The condo was recently remodeled to feature a completely new granite and tile bath, maple cabinets, polished slate floors, Island-style contemporary decor, ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room, new furniture and appliances, and free Wi-Fi. This is a non-smoking condo complex, even outside on the lanais, so you are guaranteed a smoke-free environment (this is not the case at most condos).
The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, 4-burner stove and oven, fridge with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, and coffee maker, along with all the dishes, glassware, silverware, and cookware you will need. There is plenty of cabinet space to stash away your groceries. Try our our cool pineapple slicer! Enjoy your meals at our glass-topped kitchen dining spot for two, or outside on your lanai.
The living area has a 32' Vizio flat screen TV, DVD/VHS player, CD player, and cable TV. It also has a ceiling fan.
The full bath includes a tub, shower, sink, medicine cabinet, and toilet, with granite counters.
The bedroom features a king-sized bed, mirrored sliding-door closets, and a dresser with plenty of storage space, along with a clock radio and Ipod docking station. A remote-controlled ceiling fan and louvered windows keep breezes flowing, and the smell of the plumeria outside is the best thing ever.
The condo sleeps four people, with two in the bedroom and two on the sofa sleeper. This is a perfect condo for a couple or a small family. It is also a ground floor unit, which gives you the most direct access to the ocean. Your oceanfront lanai has a dining table and 4 chairs; lounge chairs are found around the pool, which is in front of you. Parking is conveniently located immediately outside the front door; there is no hiking from the parking lot to your condo.
On property there is also a coin laundry for your use, and outdoor bbq grills with an herb garden featuring plenty of rosemary, basil, Thai basil, sage, oregano and other herbs. There is also a prep sink and colorful prep area. Stock up on groceries, grill a nice steak, and enjoy just staying put for a few nights during your stay; you may like that just as much as Maui's famous restaurants.
For your day trips around the island, we have a rolling cooler, another small cooler, a beach umbrella, sand toys, and four beach chairs. We also have a copy of the Maui Revealed tour guide for you to borrow during your stay; it's the best Maui guide out there. We have also created a notebook of our favorite beaches, activities, restaurants, and other tips that we hope will make this trip very special.
Our location is in Honokowai, about 10 minutes north of Lahaina, and about 10 minutes south of the Kapalua resort. With all due respect to the Wailea/Kihei fans out there, we think West Maui is the best location for beaches and restaurants. You don't have to do as much driving to get to places; there is more to do, see, and eat within a 10 minute drive in either direction. Walk 5 minutes south to the Farmer's Market 3 days a week, and sample some fresh banana bread...it's one of our favorite things to do!
If you're here on a Friday night, join the other Kulakane guests poolside at sunset for the weekly pupu (appetizer) party. Bring your favorite one to share, and blow the conch shell at sunset with your fellow guests. It's a fun Hawaii-style tradition that is just one of the things that makes our place so special.
We've stayed in Maui for many years, and been at many of the big resorts, but there is nothing like having your own private home that is just steps from the water - no parking fees, resort fees, hiking through miles of hallways, and legions of people everywhere!! No thanks! We'll take west Maui's quiet, small-town atmosphere any day. Come once and we know you'll come back again. We looked at dozens of places before choosing this condo and we are so proud to offer it to the VRBO family.
Rates vary with the season. Rates are just $119 per night for the low season (June - August), and $139 for April 15 - May 31 and September 1 - December 15 (excludes Thanksgiving week). During the high season (December 15 - April 15), the rate is $195 per night. We encourage our guests to book EARLY, especially for the winter high season, which traditional sells out.

This condo is completely furnished with most everything one would need for a hassle free vacation. Therefore, just pack your clothes...oh, yeah and sunscreen! :) There is even a sunset party every Friday night that you are encouraged to attend. Bring your favorite beverage for your consumption and your favorite appetizer to share at the Pupu Party! Don't forget your camera for the amazing sunsets and giant sea turtles you can view every day! The location of the Kulakane is ideal for Maui's west coast locations of dining, sightseeing and beaches. You are minutes from all of the above. There is a Farmer's Market within walking distance, fresh fish market and a grocerty store nearby. So either cook or dine out....the choice is totally yours. Heather, one of the owner's, was extremely quick in replying to our questions and put us in touch with Debbie, the manager at the Kulakane for additional information. All involved in the rental process provided us with great information BEFORE we arrived in Maui. Don't look any further. You WANT to stay in this unit for the tranquility and views that will make your vacation memorable. This was our first time to Maui and I must say this Condo and the whole Kulakane complex made our stay unforgettable :) Xmas for my kids and I will never be the same. Close your eyes and picture the sun, the beach only 20 short steps away that included HUGE sea turtles.. The sunsets were spectacular. The photos for this listing dont show how fantastic this property is. Everyone was so helpful with where to go and what to do. The condo was recently remodeled and is truly beautiful.The owners of the property of very proud as you can tell by the pictures. They make their unit a very warm home for everyone. Bring your clothes and a drive to be in the sun and you are in heaven. I have already recommended this unit to 2 of my closest friends to stay there as well. When I go back to Maui I will try and stay at this unit again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

I have never before written to review a vacation accommodation but we were so delighted with this spot, I must pass this along! The condo itself was beautifully maintained as were the grounds. Every time I thought "It would be nice if they had _______"....there it was at my fingertips! They have thought of everything. We especially appreciated the beach chairs...first class!...and the cooler provided for picnics. The furnishings were very tasteful and comfortable and since it was our first trip to Hawaii, all of the suggestions were very helpful. One that was not mentioned that was a high point for us was the performance of "Ulalena" in Lahaina. Incredible! Also, breakfast at the Plantation was lovely. The property management was efficient and prompt with a minor issue that arose...a slow draining sink. We flew into the smaller airport on Maui which was just minutes from the condo which worked out well. This condo is in a perfect location on the west side of the island...close to everything and we loved being on the ground level...just steps to the ocean. One thought - Next time I'll save up little packets of condiments to bring with us so we need not purchase full bottles to leave behind. I would come back in a heartbeat and have already recommended this property to many!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

If you are like me, when you go to Maui, you want to be ON the ocean. You can't get much closer than the Kulakane. It is truly an oceanfront property and the view is magnificent. We came for our ten year anniversary and arrived after dark after many traveling problems (missed flight, lost luggage, no rental car...I could go on). Needless to say, we were exhausted and just wanted to get to our place. We walked in and the Kulakane immediately felt like a home away from home. The decor is cozy, with just the right amount of island flair. Everything is clean and updated. The owners have gone out of their way to make sure that their guests have everything they need for a comfortable stay. We felt like we had all the amenities and comforts of home. We truly loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves lapping the sea wall just outside our condo. The bed is clean and comfortable and the furniture is comfortable too. I also have to mention the convenience of being on the ground floor. It's so nice when you are toting luggage, groceries or beach gear (which is on hand in the condo). So we wake up the next morning and walk out on the lanai. You can't imagine how blown away we were at the view! We honestly could have just stayed on our lanai the entire time. Every morning we made coffee and read and just soaked up the scenery. We saw sea turtles and whales and never had to get on a boat (blech). We actually did get out to see the sights and we just seemed to be close to everything. We have stayed in Maui several times and Kaanapali/Lahaina is where we want to be...best beaches, restaurants, night life, shopping etc. The Kulakane is central to all of this, but just far enough away to feel like you are in a quiet neighborhood. We loved the local ABC store, farmer's market and taco truck! If you are looking for a fancy place with turn down service, this place probably isn't for you, but if you just want to relax in an at-home, friendly, island atmosphere, book your vacation here!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We had the pleasure of staying at this condo in the middle of September 2011 for 10 great days. There wasn't one thing in the description that wasn't true. We had been to the Caribbean many times for the all inclusive deals. After a week there we were ready to come home. This wasn't the case with the Kulakane. We had dreaded the end of our 10 days and wanted to stay longer. This vacation was like no other we had been on as it was so relaxing. I would encourage anyone looking for this laid back stress free holiday not to wait and book today. We are already talking about next year and returning to the same piece of paradise and the same condo. each of the staff at the resort went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The Friday night poolside gathering was a highlight and we loved the cookbook and have used it several times....the garlic ginger shrimp was to die for...looking forward to next year's trip and we will bring friends with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Great place to stay! The property is centrally located for those wanting to see West Maui. I took my teen boys (19 & 15) and we LOVED this condo! Easy access to Lahaina and all of the pristine beaches from Ka'anapli to Kapalua and beyond (venture beyond for the sweet spots if you dare). We spent our days on the beatiful beaches of Maui - from Old Airport Beach (great white sand and snorkeling) to Honolua Bay (best snorkeling in Maui)! This condo was the perfect spot to come back to after a long day on the beach and in the water. The sunsets are picture perfect and provide an amazing backdrop for dinner on the Lanai. The property is very well maintained and the managers are all very friendly and helpful. We bbq'd every night and enjoyed all of the amenities Maui and this property have to offer. Almost like home, but with better sunsets and ocean breezes :-) Do not miss a sunset from this condo! Molokai and Lanai provide an amazing view! The sea turtles right off the pool patio (your backyard) were a nice treat for the whole family! We really enjoyed watching them at high tide every night! The furniture was clean and comfy too! The farmers market is a great place to walk to every day and buy your fruits and veggies! The fish market (close to the condo) has great fresh fish daily (get there early for best selection) and combine that with some of the fresh herbs the property has to offer and you are set! Awesome vacation...we hope to return to this unit in the very near future!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

we stayed a week in may and had an amazing trip. the condo is perfect and stocked with the essentials. the beach chairs, beach towels and cooler really came in handy. we enjoyed every day in maui and loved coming home to our home away from home. staff and other owners were friendly , helpful and warm people. i think it blows a hotel room out of the water. you wake up make your own coffee and sit right on the water to enjoy. 5 stars plus!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

If you're looking for a quiet, convenient, comfortable place to stay on West Maui, you've found it. We stayed for a week, and felt like we were leaving home when we checked out. The first thing you notice when you walk in for the first time, is the view of the ocean just feet from the patio. However, once you look around, you will notice that the owners have obviously put a lot of care into the place. The dishes and utensils are all nice, the bed is so comfortable, the couches and chairs and nice to lounge around on (if you want to do that inside!), and everything is clean. The location is perfect. A minute's walk to the Farmer's Market, and close drive to Naihili and Desmond Beaches. Lahiana is only a 10 minute' drive. It was out first, but not last trip to Maui, and will definitely stay there again! Hopefully it's soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My partner and I were on our first trip to Maui and found the this condo after a lot of research, we are so happy and grateful we stayed there. The place is well furnished, clean and comfortable --- and the best part to us was being able to be so close to the water! We fell in love with whale watching, which we could do from right outside on the lanai! We ate as many meals as we could right there outside on the patio, when we weren't off swimming and snorkeling nearby at some of the most beautiful beaches I have seen!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: Our three families bought this home together after many years of traveling to Maui from southern California, and dreaming about owning a place here. This is a pic of the wives on our property search trip (it was a tough job, but the guys had to stay home with the kids, so we made the sacrifice). :-) We are all friends that met at church and have grown close as our kids have been born and are all friends. The 3 husbands in our group enjoy playing poker and winning each other's money, hence the set of poker chips you'll find in the condo. Their favorite poker games are of course the ones played on the lanai of our place while the kids swim.
Why the Owner Chose Honokowai:
West Maui is absolutely the BEST place to stay in Maui, hands down. It has the best access to Lahaina, which is the location of Maui's best restaurants and art galleries. It has the best snorkeling and swimming beaches, because it doesn't get the wind that is so common in the Wailea area. It is much quieter and doesn't have the traffic of Kihei. And with the islands of Lanai and Molokai just offshore, it has the best views and sunsets.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We just can't believe you can walk out and step into the ocean. Even at other oceanfront condos, normally you have to go out the back door and down some stairs to the beach. The first-floor location is just the best, especially if you have kids or just love to get in the water. All the guests and owners at this property are very friendly and tend to gather at sunset around the pool to enjoy the view. It is a much more relaxed and less hurried atmosphere than a big resort; it's like home.
Our favorite condo time, though, is morning coffee on the lanai. It's hard to resist posting a pic to Facebook of the great view and quiet Maui morning.
