We wish to replace our earlier review with 'just the facts', as it is easy to get emotional when sharing bad experiences. Facts: There is a large dip in the driveway, hard to see, with no sign, and it damaged the bottom of my car. Caretaker was cleaning the house on arrival, as the house was just vacated by the previous guests, and these items were unattended to: outside trash cans full, fireplace filled w/ ashes, laundry room unclean. The "expensive router" was not as advertised. There was NO internet service anywhere on the property, with no offer to repair it over 4 days. BBQ ran out of propane & left our 1/2 cooked meat tasting like propane fumes. Upstairs heater did not work. Master bath window has NO curtains, and the women were not comfortable using this shower (it faces the caretaker's trailer, parked outside). Large tree over the parking drops hard pellets (seeds?) overnight, marking car tops & hoods. We returned from a day trip to find the caretaker driving away and the front door unlocked. We didn't see him inside the house, but we were 100% sure the door was locked when we left. The ad says "no housekeeping fee", but renters beware: There is a list of chores, all of which we followed, including laundering the linens, yet our deposit was not fully returned. We were shocked at a charge for excess utilities use, as we ran the washer/dryer daily (1 bath towel/guest) but doubt this was excessive. We were also charged for a stain on the dining table that we didn't use (we ate on the counter) and for using outside floodlights, which we didn't touch and an unclean towel, something we suspect was left by the caretaker or previous guests. The master bedroom doesn't have a closet or a place to hang clothes. There is a tip envelope for the caretaker, for services the facts show were non existent. The manager offered more than once, to bring kareoke discs of our choosing yet provided daily excuses as to why she couldn't keep her promise. Though we didn't allow these inconveniences and unfounded charges to tarnish our family time together, we can't recommend this property, when there are many other choices near Julian. We leave the owners 1 suggestion before they issue a response: have a friend "secret shop" the property, and stay 2 nights after another party has departed. Use their candid reviews to discover shortcomings that you may not be aware of, including your team's level of service, and attend to these concerns.Owner response: I am the owner. The guest requested an early check-in. Check-out is at 11 a.m. I let Paul know he can come at 2:30 p.m. and he showed up at 11:30 a.m. when the house was not ready. The full trash cans are 50 feet away from the house tucked away in the carport area. The trash comes one time a week and there is not a way to remove the trash daily from the property. The trash cans are covered. The fireplace in the winter time always has hot ashes in the fireplace to make it easy to start a fire for the guests. There is wifi. Paul never complained to me and no one has ever complained about this before. The propane tanks are always 3/4 full. I refill them weekly. No one was in the house ever when it was occupied and the caretaker has moved. Please see our rental agreement as there as six things to do before leaving including making sure the lights are turned off, the heat is turned off, all standards things in a vacation rental. Paul was not charged for running the washer and dryer five times a day. He was charged for a large stain on the Oak table (I have pictures of the damage for anyone interested) and he was charged for removing/pulling off the covers to the outside flood lights and using the flood lights excessively. That is all he was charged for, nothing more. I offer karaoke choices to the guests to expand the karaoke collection. I only offered once, not excessively. And when I went to the store they did not have his requests. I asked what type of coffee they enjoy and provided him with that. I have more than a 1,000 song collection and I am always buying and bringing more selections for the karaoke machine. This placed is highly reviewed everywhere. I am sorry to hear of Paul's disappointments. I am running a business and he badly damaged the new oak table (I bought in November 2011) and ran the 500 W flood lights excessively (note your standard lamp has a 40 W bulb and he ran four (4) 500 W flood lights excessively without permission) leaving the electric bill to jump into the next tier. My electric bill more than doubled. The repair costs and the electric bill costs were excessive of $200. I charged him $75 for the damage and the electric bill.

We had 4 families with kids(4-8yr). Everyone had a good time. Kids had a great time at the playground and creeks at the property. They brought own bike and there were a plenty of space to run a bike. We brought our own fire pit and used it at the outside patio. The owner let us to use fire woods which was excellent bonus. There were a lot of kid's toys. I'll go back soon.Recommended for: Families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at this property. There were 7 of us. 2 small kids (3 years and 5 years). There was plenty of space. Lots of things for the kids to play with. They loved the karaoke machine and the playground. Very close to Julian and there is a market just a minute away. They had everything we needed. We will definitely be back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had 20 people stay at both of the houses for a weekend, and had a great time! Though it was crowded (because of our sheer number) there was enough space for everyone to roam and enjoy. The stove heated the whole house, there were tons of games for kids, and of course the surrounding nature was beautiful! Not to the mention the incredible kitchen (every cooking gadget you could imagine) when they say it's fully stocked, it really is! We had a great time, and hope to come back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: Hi, I am Jennifer. Welcome! I am a mother, educator and manager of Labyrinth in the Oaks. Thank you for your interest in Labyrinth in the Oaks!
Why the Owner Chose Julian:
I bought this place so my children can have a place to run and play and hide. We bought this place for the love of the land. They spent about an hour a day by the river manipulating the water so it will go one way or the other. The made dams and then watched until what they had made was destroyed by the force of the water. So much fun was and is found here.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The property is great for bike riding. On the property, there is one of the largest stretches of the old concrete highway that was abandoned in 1955 for the new one. The stretch of old highway here is about 350 feet, very fun for bike riding, plus there are other paths here for bike riding or walking. Bird watching is great here, too. Bring your binoculars, because the bird baths and feeders are filled 2x a week.
Support green! A couple of environmental health benefits you may enjoy during your stay here is full use of the 100% biodegradable ans/or organic products, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry soap and dish soap.
You may also want to enjoy a one hour therapeutic custom treatment massage that may include Swedish style, Aromatherapy, Polarity, Acupressure, Cranio-sacral, and Ayurveda methods. Or you may want to enjoy a one-hour energy work. The cost is set at $60 an hour. This special is only for guests staying at Labyrinth in the Oaks. You may enjoy this treatment in your room or in our private and separate massage room.
