As a family of five it's hard to find affordable and comfortable accommodations, but this place fit really fit the bill. A short 20 minute hop to Seaworld, a little over an hour to Disneyland, and a beautiful beach minutes away that's still warm enough to get into the water in October! We used the pool table alot, and really enjoyed watching the sun set over the ocean from the deck. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful home with us. It was a very enjoyable and memorable vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have a big family including two babies and have vacationed together in San Diego the past four years. It is hard to find a spacious place for us and one that is as spectacular as this property. The pictures of this property does not give the ocean view and outdoor deck justice. When we arrived, the home was immaculate and not filled with a bunch of knick knacks the babies could get into. The owners made every effort to make sure we felt welcome such as providing us with coffee, a welcome letter, and a unique wine bar where we were able to sample a wine and replace with one of our faves. This made us connect with the Thompson's as well as other families who have stayed in the home. We had a problem with the TV at one point and we were able to contact the Thompson's with no problem and get it fixed. We loved that the house was minutes away from the beach, Del Mar Racetrack, as well as countless high and low end restaurants, which we didn't have to fight traffic to get too. Our family spent all nights playing pool on the pool table and board games out on the patio. It was hard to leave our week vacation home. We have been home now for two days and I am still thinking about the memories we shared in the Thompson home. I would recommend this home to any family with or without kids. The location is perfect and secluded and the windows and ocean views alone make this home one of a kind. We will definitely be back next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

May 17-22, 2012 We rented this wonderful house for 6 nights and had such a great experience. We had both young and old in the house since it was for my daughter's college graduation and the bedrooms, kitchen and great room gave all of us lots of space and upscale amenities. Dealing with Julia to book the house was so easy and efficient and the house was exactly as advertised even better. I would highly recommend staying here and enjoying the patio with great sunsets and quiet time in the mornings and evenings. We are all looking to renting this home again in the future!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, families with young children.

Dear Thompsons - We thank you greatly! My families week here was amazing. We only wish it could have been longer. The house exceeded all of our expectations, from the view to the thoughtfulness of your family. This was by far the best vacation we have every had and it was because of your family opening your home to my family. As my kids said all week, this place is "amazing." Dear Thompson - We would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the wonderful week we enjoyed in your home. The provisions were above and beyond our expectations - the beds, couches and pillows were so comfortable!! There was plenty of room for our 3 families (10 people!). We each enjoyed the home in our own way. The children loved playing on the patio and the kitchen was stocked perfectly for large dinners. We spent 3 terrific weeks in this wonderful rental in July of 2011. The owner was easy to work with and extremely responsive to any questions that we had leading up to our stay as well as communicative during our stay to coordinate cleaning of the home. The description and photos of the property are accurate, yet we were further impressed upon arrival as this property is even better in person! The home is extremely spacious and clean. The owner provided excellent provisions exceeding our expectations that made our stay easier as well as a little luxurious. Staying as long as we did, it was important to have a functional kitchen and this one fit the bill. All of the tools and appliances that we could have possibly needed were provided as well as dishes, spices and even coffee and a great coffee maker. The location of this home is really convenient. It is close to the freeway, beach and grocery store. We miss the beautiful ocean views already! It was a great home base for us as we headed out each day to the very many attractions in the San Diego area. The neighborhood is excellent, well-kept and safe. With previous rentals we have stayed in, many weeks and reminders passed before our deposit was returned. We received our deposit for this rental right away and are very appreciative of that. It is a perfect example of the owners' excellent customer service throughout the process. This was our first time staying in Del Mar and it is a great town. We highly recommend it if you are looking for more of a casual, less touristy area to stay. The beaches, while they definitely have traffic during the summer, are more subdued and family-friendly than the more popular beaches to the south. The downtown area is small yet quaint. It is extremely close to La Jolla so if you are looking for a little larger downtown, it is just a few minutes down the road. We were traveling with 2 small children so most of our activities were geared toward them. It is easy to get to the downtown San Diego attractions in 20-30 minutes, such as the Zoo, Balboa Park, The New Children's Museum, and Seaport Village to name a few. We also enjoyed heading to the north for Moonlight beach which has good parking and a playground, and Carlsbad for Legoland, which has a terrific water park and Encinitias. We would highly recommend this property and hope very much to return for another stay in the future!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home. We appreciated all the little extras and thoughtful touches that went into each and every immaculately clean room. Each of us had our favorite spot in the house. Mine was the deck in the morning to read and enjoy coffee (loved the coffee machine!). The view from the deck is stunning - particularly at sunset. The children loved to watch the sun "fall into the water." As we head back to our cold Canadian prairie winter (-21 degrees Celsius tomorrow!) the memories of the lush green vegetation and blue sea will remind us to return again another year.Did you find this review helpful? Great vacation place! It's cavernous! We loved the space, the layout, the sweet living room area with the comfy large couches and the super beds in the bedrooms. The master bed is the most comfortable bed in which I've slept - like a LOG! The kids also loved all the pillows in the large other bedrooms. The trundle bed with the bunk bed would be great for a group of kids. We relaxed all week, watched tons of movies, and enjoyed long 1-2 hour walks daily to and along the water. What a beautiful setting! The views are awesome. And you supplied super provisions for all. Thanks so much! We enjoyed this lovely alternative to our home in the Desert. About the owner: We are a family of five with the busy life that goes with it! We are working hard to get our children through school and off to college. We enjoy camping with our family, golfing and wine!
Why the Owner Chose Del Mar:
We have been to many beach locations and know that someday we want to retire at the beach. We came across Del Mar and just fell in love with the location because of it's small town charm coupled with its beach style living.
