Kenwood Cottage is located in the heart of Sonoma's wine country and the town of Kenwood. This two bedroom vacation home is walking distance to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and biking distance to some of the premiere wineries in the region.
This idyllic cottage rests on a year round creek in the historic Adobe Canyon and is situated in a bucolic setting. With private gardens, luminous canyon scenery and wildlife spilling through your cottage windows, you can walk to hiking trails that lead over bridges and waterfalls to spectacular vistas. Picnic at Sugarloaf Ridge or hike to Bald Mountain with 360º views of Northern California and the Golden Gate Bridge. Spend an evening at the Robert Ferguson Observatory at Sugarloaf Park stargazing and learning about current astronomical events.
The interior design was commissioned by Gracer West Interiors, and meticulously executed by lead designer Margaret Gross. With an eye for sophistication, simplicity and beauty, this “French Country” cottage is artfully appointed with many of the amenities of a 5 star resort. There is a spa/hot tub only a few steps from the master suite overlooking the creek, with exquisite views of the stars, mountains and the majestic trees that surround this private oasis.
Kenwood is in the heart of the Valley of the Moon and is considered one of the premiere towns in Sonoma's wine country. This retreat offers privacy and serenity, yet is only minutes to some of the best wineries in the region.
Each room at the cottage was thoughtfully crafted with our guest’s comfort in mind. From plush down comforters and 100% cotton linens, to all the amenities of a gourmet kitchen, the cottage is a place for true pampering & relaxation. Each room at Kenwood Cottage has been given detailed attention for our guest's satisfaction.
Our beds are top of the line Serta pillow-top queens. The master bedroom opens up to the back deck where the hot tub/spa are a just a few steps from your room.
The outdoor spa is set on the back deck overlooking Sonoma Creek - the largest year-round creek at the Valley of the Moon.
Sip our bottle of complimentary wine while you take a dip in the hot tub under starry nights or have your breakfast on one of the several outdoor tables thoughtfully placed around the cottage. An outdoor grill (Weber gas grill) and fully equipped kitchen is ready for your culinary artistry.
While there are plenty of wineries to choose from in Sonoma Valley, should you decide to experience more of what the wine country has to offer, the Kenwood Cottage is centrally located to the other wine regions. Driving times to other famous regions from the Kenwood Cottage are as follows:
Napa valley 40 minutes
Carneros Region 20 min
Calistoga 30 min
Russian River 25 min
Healdsburg / Dry Creek Valley 30 min.

It's been a week since I left the Kenwood Cottage and I cannot stop thinking about it. With my wife and our two children (8 and 11), we had such a pleasant time at this well-maintained, meticulously clean cottage in the heart of California wine country. Not only would I highly recommend this place, I will be working every angle to find my way back there. Some highlights: A charming stream running through the backyard, proximity to Sonoma wineries, peaceful quiet, friendly owners.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

What a beautiful cottage. The photos do not do this wonderful home justice! We had a very relaxing time here to celebrate our birthdays. We would highly recommend going up to the Russian River valley which is close by the cottage for the wineries, especially during busy weekends. We had a great time exploring the area as well as downtown Healdsburg. We are looking forward to coming back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Loved it, loved it, loved it! From the brook that babbled to the money we saved having many meals here in the comfort and serenity of the cottage and such a fully equipped kitchen! We rented bikes (although the 2 bikes you supplied would have worked, we needed 3) and cycled everywhere around the cottage and to the wineries. I spent hours searching for the perfect cottage, and I know this was the one!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We booked the cottage last minute, as an alternative to the Kenwood Inn and Spa (their rooms have become very pricey!). Wow! We love the Kenwood Cottage! As soon as we arrived, we immediately felt at home. We kept telling each other how “familiar” and cozy the home felt to us, and how we will come here again as soon as possible. We live in a busy city with a busy life raising young sons ... it was such a blessing to come to this retreat in the woods to clear our minds of all the clutter. We won’t hesitate booking a longer stay next time. I would stay for a month if I could! All in all, this was a wonderful stay. We are so grateful the good Lord allowed us to share in this treasure off the beaten path. Thank you so much for your hospitality and willingness to share your blessings with others! P.S. Delicious coffee!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Just wanted to let you know that we enjoyed our stay at Kenwood Cottage so very much. The cottage was furnished to the extreme, and we were pleased to find that it was so complete - even down to three wine openers! We enjoyed the Kenwood Red wine the first night, for which we thank you. We also really appreciated your many suggestions on places to visit and restaurants to eat at. We particularly enjoyed the Citti Cafe (ate there twice) and the Mayo Wine and Food Pairing in Kenwood. We loved the tour at Benzingers for its educational value and the gondola ride up to Sterling Winery was great. The views from up there were wonderful. I think we managed to visit at least fifteen wineries and/or vineyards during the time we had in Kenwood, so we were a busy trio. The other nice thing we discovered was that the strawberries were in season. We stopped at a little stand each day and bought a quart to have with our cheese and crackers and wine. What a treat! Our thanks again for having such a nice home and location for our trip to the wine countryDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This place was fantastic. Close by good wineries, right at the foot of the park and a fabulous hike up Bald Mountain, near wonderful restaurants, plus so cozy and quint. They provide all the amenities and it is so clean and well kept. Perfect size hot tub in the back, creek flowing in the back, chairs, lunges, BBQ, wifi, even oils and spices and some essentials in the kitchen. I would highly recommend them!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We work hard to make the Kenwood Cottage a home away from home and extra special in many ways given the beautiful setting. This review is typical to the experience all of our guests have (we have posted others on our website). Whether you are coming to enjoy a quiet weekend, or to venture out to go wine tasting, hiking, shopping, or eating at some of the fine restaurants located within 5 min of the Kenwood Cottage, you are sure to have an unforgettable experience.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: We are a happily married couple of over 30 years and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wayne is the chief economist at a Fortune 500 firm and Laura spends time with their two grown daughters and manages the Kenwood Cottage. We enjoy cooking, wine tasting, relaxing, travel and sight seeing; all of these we found at the Kenwood Cottage!
Why the Owner Chose Kenwood:
Kenwood is a small town in the heart of Sonoma Valley. We spent over 5 years looking for just the right place in the wine country. Once we became familiar with the differences between Sonoma and Napa, we really started looking hard at Sonoma due to its more laid back and friendly atmosphere. The charming town of Kenwood had it all for us and the Kenwood Cottage with its canyon setting and lovely sounds from the year round creek really sold us.
Not familiar with Kenwood? Look what the Wine Spectator wrote in a recent edition about the area, 'There are beautiful wine roads all over the world, rambling through Tuscany and Provence, or along the Rhine in Germany's Rheingau. But you needn't cross the ocean to find some. The route, coming into Kenwood as you drive north through Sonoma Valley, the mountains ribbed with hillside vineyards, is in the same league.”
This is why we so fell in love with the area and why this is such a great place to relax and unwind.
Experience the much more laid back atmosphere of Sonoma vs Napa valley where it is not uncommon to have the wine maker pouring his own wines, the staff more friendly and passionate than we have found in other regions and often where there is no tasting fee (we keep free and discounted tasting coupons at the cottage to help also!)
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Nearly all the other properties listed above and below this one on VRBO do not have the quiet, canyon setting with a creek running through the property and the ambiance that creates for our guests. Don’t be misled - other properties are often in residential neighborhoods and are not a serene, relaxing environment. Yet the location of the Kenwood Cottage is so ideal: only a mile from over 25 excellent wineries, yet romantic and secluded. It was everything we had hoped for after looking for a second home for over 5 years.
We use the cottage when it is not rented and thus, have it fully equipped the way we enjoy it and make all of these ammenities available to our guests.
We provide a complete guest guide that tells you not only everything you need to know about the cottage, but also all the great wineries, restaurants, and things to do around the cottage. We also provide numerous two for one or free tasting coupons for wine tasting.
Walking on the seldom traveled road is a favorite in the morning hours. Coffee on the secluded rear deck overlooking the creek (or while in the hot tub) is a morning favorite. We often head to a local store (we provide many ideas in our guest guide) to pick up picnic supplies (we keep a picnic cooler for you at the cottage) and then head out for wine tasting picnicing. The exciting part for us is that every year, the wines change! So we often revisit the local wineries several times per year to enjoy their new offerings. Once back from wine tasting/exploring/hiking, we relax in our front yard garden with some wine and cheese and then either enjoy one of the many great restaurants within minutes of the cottage or prepare a feast with our fully equipped kitchen. We finish the evening sitting in the hot tub looking up at the millions of stars (it is amazing what a slight elevation change from the valley floor will do to make millions more stars appear!). Tell me, what is there not to LOVE about this destination!
