Enjoy a relaxing getaway in our professionally restored log and stone house. Originally built in the 1800’s by American Pioneer settlers near Galena IL, we restored this excellent log cabin to provide you with a luxury cabin with all modern amenities and conveniences, yet retaining the history and character of the 1800’s.
Our Wisconsin Log Cabin Lodging is in a country setting on 5 1/2 wooded acres just north of Platteville WI, and a short distance from Eagle Ridge Galena Territory, Galena IL, and Dubuque IA. Walnut Ridge offers two private luxury romantic handcrafted log cabins.
The historic hand-hewn 1800's log and stone cabin, named 'Back Again,' is ideal for honeymoons, special occasions, and well deserved getaways. Distinctive features include a 2 person whirlpool with a waterfall spout, gas fireplace, full kitchen, rock sun room, and many inviting areas to relax. The roof top cupola is a beacon, welcoming all Back Again. This log house has 2 bedrooms, able to accommodate up to 4 adults traveling together. One bedroom has a queen size bed, the other a full size bed. The bathroom on the second floor near the bedrooms is spacious, with 2 sink areas and a large shower. A convenient ½ size bathroom is on the first floor. The interior is decorated and furnished in a Colonial style. The cabin has modern in-floor heat and central air conditioning. Outside, you can enjoy your own private cobblestone patio with gas grill, and a small woodland sanctuary.
Many guests find the log cabins so enjoyable and relaxing, they don't feel the need to venture out. However, there are many attractions, restaurants, and shops at nearby Galena Illinois, Dubuque Iowa, and other charming small towns and sites. Information is provided in the cabins.
There are three log buildings at Walnut Ridge. The guest house is well separated to ensure privacy and tranquility. The owners of Walnut Ridge live in the main house. All three buildings were designed, constructed, and restored by the owners, Chuck and Jill Staab, who have an extensive background in the building and restoration business.

This cabin is so inspiring. The décor is superb and it feels good to stay in a place which is so well cared for by the owners. I’m grateful we were able to experience the beauty of Walnut Ridge. We simply could not believe how wonderful this cabin is. What a job Chuck and Jill did constructing and decorating this place. It is so clean and comfortable it will be hard to describe to all of our friends and family. We really enjoyed our time here. Hadn’t relaxed like this in a long time. Very cozy, decorated so well, and so very well taken care of. All details – touches – thought of and attended to. We don’t want to leave “our” cabin, but reality is calling ….We shall return to this magical place again – it’s found a place in our hearts!!!Did you find this review helpful? This getaway was so wonderful. Very relaxing. Beds were comfortable and décor very conducive to rest and creativity. Beautiful and well maintained grounds. Will definitely come again….and again. We are passionate about maintaining these beautiful buildings and the grounds here at Walnut Ridge. Our aim is to provide you with a very relaxing enjoyable time away from the trials of everyday life. Being romantics at heart, we have combined our passion and talents to create a romantic getaway for your enjoyment. When we're not sprucing up the houses and grounds, we enjoy visiting the local wineries, microbreweries, cheese stores, and the many Amish and Mennonite country shops and nurseries. We have lived in this region our entire lives and still enjoy all that it has to offer, from breathtaking scenery, the Mississippi River, first class tourist destinations such as Galena and Dubuque, and remarkable out-of-the way sites which make us feel as if we are in some wonderful European country.
Why the Owner Chose Platteville:
We have always lived in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, and wanted to remain in the area. When we found this acreage in 1982, we saw a great potential for all the charm and romance of 'old world' living, yet with all the modern conveniences of today.
Since then, we have been passionate about creating an idyllic place for ourselves, to be shared with like-minded couples.
