  We had a wonderful time at the chalet. Weather was chilly enough we were able to use the fire place. We had all kinds of different weather, rain, sleet, snow and even a shad of ice. We will be calling Reggie in the future about a return to the chalet, perhaps when it is warmer and we can use the outdoors part of this beautiful piece of land. The chalet was just like in the picture, very clean, we were in the area for the Wollersheim brandy release. Traveled to New Glarus and shopped in Mount Horeb. Fun for all. If your in Mount Horeb, try Scott's Pizza delicious.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

  Thanks Reggie! Catalyst Pictures shot a movie here at the cabin. We had a great time and the filming went really well. The location was critical and we couldn't have done it without your support. The Premier screening of the film is on May 11 at 7:00 pm in Vilas Hall on the UW campus. Hope to see you there!   First rate experience! The cabin is stunning, sitting on top of a hill with amazing views. It is in excellent shape and well stocked, but without the shabby stuff that sometimes accompanies rental units. The owner is pleasant to deal with, and everything we expected came true.

  We had a great time at your fantastic home! We hope to return for another Girl's getaway again sometime. Went hiking, visited nearby quaint towns, visited the Grumpy Troll (highly recommended!) wish the New Glarus Brewery had been open- we were really looking forward to touring that. However, really had a wonderful time at the New Glarus Hotel Bar- staff very friendly + welcoming. A perfect weekend had by all!   What a wonderful get away close to home. We enjoyed the views and the sledding was the best ever. Thank you so much. Note to future guests- the field behind the chalet provides a great sledding hill. You stay warm and get some exercise walking up the hill. A perfect weekend of outdoor activity and downtime inside.   Nice house- fun decor, funky fun with classic cabin. We really enjoyed doing nothing- really - sleeping, eating, drinking - then repeat + movies. We're glad we weren't murdered because we were concerned with watching so many scary movies. Hopefully we can return next winter.   Each year us kids get together with my Dad for a weekend in January to celebrate a late Christmas. It's tough to find a place to accomodate us all without having to be on top of each other and yet pay a reasonable price. This place was perfect! Thanks so much. We'll certainly be back!

  Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

  We really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home. Curling up by a nice warm fire after hiking around the grounds was a nice release from city life. The views from the large living room windows were a great sight to wake up to in the morning while enjoying some coffee. The Grumpy Troll was awesome, great beer and food.   Reggie, We had a GREAT time in your property and Mt. Horeb area. When my daughter asked us for a white christmas, I would not imagine, even in my wildest guesses, how fun it would be. SHe had her white xmas, and experienced: A blizzard (the worst in last 25 yrs, as per your neighbor mike), snow flurries, wonderful clear days, fireplace warmth, and a great time with parents, sliding in the ice; tube sliding in Cascade Mtn., A cave visit in Cave Mound and many others. As for the parents, we had the greatest xmas, new year and vacations of our lifes (so far.) =) Life in Sao Paulo is crazy, and this full stop was awesome. Expect some Brazilians to pop up in your propert in the future. ;-) We'll definitely recommend that. Love, Peace, Rodrigo, Stefanie, & Yasmin. Sao Paulo, Brazil.

  Thanks for letting us stay in your FANTASTIC home! We would stay here to live if we could. Zaki (dog) had a great time running around the yard and figuring out what snow is. The grumpy troll tavern welcomed us with delicious food and beer. Mt Horeb Cave of Mounds was one of the coolest place we have ever visited. Thanks again for being so talented and willing to share your passion with us. We will not forget the great time we had thanks to you.

  We spent our first part of our honeymoon here - and no regrets! Enjoyed both an unseasonally warm day and a snowy one! Loved the view of the woods and the stars. Enjoyed watching a dawny woodpecker on the deck. Took a drive through a nearby orchard and the county fishery in the snow - charming! Hiked Blue Mounds and watched the sunset from the east tower. Rested, laughed! prayed, loved much!

  We enjoyed our week stay at your cabin. We had some cool temps and blustery days so the cozy fire was nice. Very comfortable. It was a very peaceful, relaxing place for our second honeymoon. Places we enjoyed and recommend to others: Brasserie V - 1923 Monroe St, Madison - has great food, Belgian beer, great atmosphere Glarner Stube in New Glarus - great food Schuberts Diner in Mount Horeb - we had a great breakfast Mary's scones in Mount Horeb

  Clan had another great time... only a couple of us braving the pool - Saw a cat, wild turkeys and deer - lovely fall moon urged us to stay longer ... Your place is equidistant for all of us to convene and revert to childhood -- Thanks Reggie!

  My husband and I along with our almost 10 month son had a great time in your beautiful chalet. We explored Madison and Mt. Horeb and had great meals at Graze and Grumpy Troll respectively. Words of advice to future guests: Don't leave the screen door on the upper deck open - a family of bees came in and we had quite a time getting rid of them! Otherwise a great time!

  What a great place for friends to get away together! We had a BLAST! We did everything on our list as you can see --> Dip in the pond, shops and ice cream, maybe boat or pool, grumpy troll dinner and drink, shuberts pancakes, state park - picnic lunch, hiking, kayaking, out in madison - dinner and drinks, sunday brunch and boat.

  Great stay in a very cool place! The house is beautiful - great "colorado" feel in the middle of Wisconsin, with fantastic views, amenities and furnishings. Definitely want to know where you get the squishy, fluffy duvets. The pond was great for a 5 & 2 year old as well. Thanks!

  It's 101F and we are in the pond drinking Miller beer while our pregnant wives are inside with the toddlers enjoying the air conditioning. Are we living the high life? We made it through the heat wave and love our visit to your cabin. Visitors with kids should surely check out the Madison Children's Museum. Thanks for having us. Hope the rain comes soon.

  Congratulations to you and your dad for creating such a beautiful home in a great location. The chalet's artistic construction is memorable. A true labor of love. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the New Glarus Brewing Company. Free tour was both interesting and educational. The beers are exceptional and only available in WI. Visited Blue Mound State Park with our dogs, Jack and Jill, for a small hike and really nice Park with good walking trails. Lunch at the Grumpy Troll exceeded our expectations. burgers were very good and in-house beer - brewed on site, was equally as good. Atmosphere and friendly service is recognized. We wish you continued success, good health and happiness!

  Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We enjoyed the rustic and scandinavian look of your cabin. Luckily, we had great weather during our stay and got to take advantage of Donald Park's trails. We really recommend the trail next to the stream. If you go to Madison, you must go to Graze of a fantastic lunch or dinner and you should drop by comagination for an awesome selection of cheese. Hope to be back in the fall and enjoy the color and fresh country air.

  Hay! What a perfect house for our first annual sibling weekend. Actually, it would be PERFECT if there was a hot tub outside on the top deck! But you know, no complaints. :) Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We ate, skied, snowshoed, and played many games - Family Feud, ticket to ride, Settlers of Catan. Awesome!   3 hungry sewing sisters popped in for 3 days of sewing, shopping and snacking! Great place! The Grumpy Troll was a hot spot. We have had to keep going to try out more and more of the menu! Good little camp fire girls that we are we enjoyed the fireplace even though the down draft got us a time or 2 :) Thanks Reggie! Relaxed, Sewing fun always on our radar!

  We stayed at Black Walnut Chalet for Cyclo-cross Nationals, held in Verona, WI. While we expected snow, ice and cold, we were greeted with near record warmth (40s and 50s) and mud! Very fun, but challenging conditions to race our bicycles in! When we weren't racing, we hiked Blue Mounds S.P. and then Donald Park, just south. We had a great meal and good selection of beer to choose from at the Grumpy Troll. We also had a Swiss experience in New Glarus. We plan on returing new year!

  We arrived on 12/23/11 at 4pm marveling at the walnut logs and floors. A snow shower had just passed by giving us the awaited sense of a White Christmas. We are 3 couples and 2 yr old staying here for the holidays. The palm plant made for a creative Christmas tree! We all enjoyed exploring Mt. Horeb shops and a Christmas eve candlelight service. Thank you for sharing your lovely home that brought a reunion of 3 families to spend Christmas together. We had a fantastic time!

  Reggie, Thank you for letting us stay in your cabin. It was so beautiful and relaxing! The stars were so beautiful at night when we were up on the balcony. I've never seen stars shining so brightly before. I love all of the woodwork. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

  Thank you Reggie - your home and setting is lovely. We came for some quality family time, something we don't get enough of. Ordered pizza from Grumpty Troll, played cards and drank some toddies. Are going exploring in Mt. Horeb despite the rain. We felt very much at home here. If you ever get to (city listed), come see me at my soup and sandwich shop.

  Reggie~ You have quite a beautiful home here. And such a sublime setting. This was a wonderful way to spend my 40th birthday. Thank you for sharing your vision and creation. To future guests: Miller and Sons is a great local grocery but I would also recommend Burreson's foods located at 1019 River Street in Belleville. (direction are in guest book at the house) We hope to be back for a longer visit. Thanks again!

  We loved the Black Walnut for our weekend getaway!! It's amazing how peaceful and mindful the cabin and surroundings envelope you. We kicked back our feet the first night and enjoyed snuggling in front of the fireplace. We went for a nice long walk in the morning exploring Mt Horeb-Mt Vernon and hit up the Badger Game in the afternoon - I am amazed how easy it is to drive to Madison. :) For Dinner Saturday, we hit up the Grumpty Troll - very good! New Glarus beers accompanied us all weekend and we especially enjoyed hanging out with Reggie and Spencer for great conversation about their lives and history of the cabin. Abe, our dog loved it here too! We'll be back - for our wedding weekend and mini honeymoon in June 2012. Warm Wishes,
