It features two luxurious master king suites, a stunning wall of windows in the living/kitchen with breathtaking river and mountain views, vaulted ceilings with exposed timber beams, designer furniture, chef's kitchen and a fabulous open floor plan making it perfect for entertaining and family fun in the mountains.
You will love cooking meals in the spacious tiled kitchen. It is all open to the dining and living room and features custom aspen cabinetry and ceilings, built in SubZero refrigerator, convection oven, and it is completely stocked with new Caphalon pots/pans, set of Henkel chef's knives, 12 cup Cuisinart coffee maker, KitchenAid blender, 24x18 maple John Boos cutting board and everything else you could possibly need to prepare and serve your favorite recipe's with ease and flair.
Enjoy your meals on a gorgeous hickory table while looking out at the beautiful mountain and river scenery. Set a stunning table with service for up to 16 guests with Plafztcraft dishes, beautiful stainless steal flatware, as well as a lovely set of glassware and wine glasses.
Relax with a fire in the large comfortable living room with vaulted ceilings, alpine inspired luxury furnishings and breathtaking wall of windows looking down on the river. This great room gives you the effect of being in a tree house. The beautiful Pella windows open so you can listen to the river as it flows towards town. You won't miss your favorite shows while on vacation with the new Wi-Fi enabled high definition T.V. w/ TiVo, Wii game console, Blue Ray DVD player with NetFlix and other fun apps.

The charming third bedroom features a beautiful antique queen bed with a great pillow top mattress, love seat, and mountain views.

A large remodeled hall bathroom services the third and fourth bedroom and features a unique sky light for mountain views, a beautiful tile shower with sliding glass door, heated tile floors, and a huge vanity with a seat for getting ready. No cold showers...the home boasts a instant hot water system.
The beds all feature newer pillow top luxury mattresses, cashmere, down and Egyptian cotton linens.

A large Weber gas grill for cook outs and built in bench seating looking out on river and mountains. No hiking involved, there is a gate with steps and railing down to a log swing and hundreds of feet of private river bank for fishing or relaxing. We also have lighting in the trees along the river which makes for wonderful evening views. The home also boasts a half acre of flat yard on the side and in front, a fire pit, hammock and horseshoes, basketball hoop...so there is plenty of room for outdoor fun.

If you have not visited the Red River Upper Valley you are missing out on the best part of Red River. Monte Vista Estates is a gorgeous and peaceful area in the upper valley subdivisions. Only 4 miles from downtown and an easy scenic drive along the Red River. You can enjoy a mountain playground right outside your door. Go hiking, fishing, four-wheeling, snowshoeing or snowmobiling. The area also features breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains and Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's highest mountain peak.

We so enjoyed our stay at the Smokey River Chalet. The house was beautiful and comfortable. We love to come to Red River and would love to come back and rent the Smokey River home again. we realy enjoyed our stay here, untill we got home and we were informed that we owed money because we took children. we had 11 adults and 5 children. the children ranged in age from 2-14. the VRBO add said nothing about charging extra for kids, but the rental company, Resort Realty, said it was company policy to charge for kids. we have been coming to Red River for over 30 years, and this is the first time we have looked back on our vacation with a bad taste in our mouth. great home, great location, just watch the fine print.Owner response: I apologize for the misunderstanding. I never meant to mislead anybody on our rates. I gave our rates much thought when I established them for the Smokey River Chalet. Most of our guests are groups of 6-10 people and the home accommodates 6-10 perfect. You will be crowded and sleeping on the floor and couch if you try and put many more in the house. If you are a group of 16 people let me know in advance and maybe we can negotiate a better deal depending on your dates, or many times we can find a second home for your group that is nearby. We do state in our rate summary on VRBO, "base rate includes 6 guests," which means that any number of guests over this amount are charged per person. Many times during the year we offer packages and discounts that include up to 10 guests or free nights but whether you call us or use our online booking system you will be asked the number of adult guests as well as children and be told the cost up front. Please be honest or if you are not sure at the time of booking, you can pay for the additional guests when you arrive. The base rate on the Smokey River Chalet includes up to six guests. We have an additional charge of $10 for each additional guests depending on the season, and discounts and packages we have going on at the time of your desired dates. During the ski season we offer packages that include, “KIDS STAY FREE/SKI FREE”-Children under 10 can ski free and stay free with each paying adult. We also offer another, “FOURTH DAY FREE” during the ski season which includes a fourth day of equipment, skiing and lodging for free if you check in on a Sunday or Monday.

5 adults and 4 children stayed at this home, and we loved it. It was comfortable with a beautiful and convenient location. The furnishings and decorations were really nice although there was little to no drawers in 3 out of four rooms, but there were plenyt of closets. I think it is a newer rental and could have used a few more basic pots and pans, but nothing that we couldn't do without. My only real complaint was that it smelled like smoke when we first got there but it quickly went away with some open windows. I would definitely stay here again. I'd love to see it in the summer with the stream running and wildlife around.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: We just purchased the home in mid February and love the feedback so we can better accommodate guests in the future. We have taken our guests advice and purchased a large set of Caphalon pots and pans and a wide array of kitchen/cooking items as well as a couple dressers. We do have a no smoking policy in our home and were unaware of someone smoking in the house and were able to resolve this guests complaint immediately.

This was our 1st time to book this Chalet. For this being our 1st time, this was a great stay. The home was just as described on the web page. For us booking this sight unseen, we could not have asked for better accomodations. Steve was so hospitable and friendly. Whatever we needed, he was prompt and dependable. The staff was just as nice and friendly. We happened to chose the month and year for record breaking temperatures. The temps were minus 36 degrees but the house was warm and toasty. We didn't get chilled at all in the house even in those temperatures. The home was lovely, clean and well stocked. We had 11 people in the house and had plenty of room. We loved everything about our stay. It couldn't have been better.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

About the owner: We are both from Dallas but have lived in Red River for several years, my husband has been here 30 years. We were both Red River ski instructors and we now own and operate Resort Realty in Red River. Our 25 year old son, his wife and our adorable grandson live in Dallas. My son is in the Air Force. Why the Owner Chose Red River:
Having both been in Red River real estate for many years we have had the opportunity to see so many beautiful houses but as soon as we visited the Smokey River Chalet, as guests at a party, we fell in love. As soon as it went on the market we knew we had to figure out a way to purchase this wonderful home. When you have the windows open you can listen to the peaceful sound of the river and when you are in the living/kitchen the back wall of windows make you feel like you are in a treehouse. I have never seen such gorgeous furnishings, the previous owner owned a high end furniture store in Dallas and he picked out the best and most expensive to furnish the house.
