Mammoth Mountain Chalets chalet description
Our Mammoth Mountain Stiegler Chalet #23 In Partnership with Inyo National Forest is located just 100 yards from the main ski complex with easy access to the entire 11,053 ft. summit. Nestled in the trees the chalet's privacy provides the best possible setting for memorable family vacationing. Ski to the solitude and comfort of your chalet for lunch. The children will enjoy sledding right outside the front door! Spend more time on the slopes and far less time getting there and back. Upon arrival in the winter a snow-cat will shuttle you and your belongings in at arrival and out on your day of departure. Don't worry, the pathways to the chalets are packed and groomed daily and are an easy walk or ski of 150 yards from the parking facility. During the summer one can drive to and park next to the chalet. Summer visitors can walk across the parking lot, catch a bus to the 'gateway to the wilderness' Reds Meadow facilities, rent a mountain bike and traverse the mountain trails or just enjoy a panoramic gondola ride to the summit of Mammoth Mountain. Chalet #2 offers all these benefits and a charming, cozy vacation home away from home featuring all the living amenities including full kitchen, dining area, wood burning stove and an ample deck area to sit, relax and enjoy the views of the summit and the surrounding Inyo Forest. So join us and experience the wonders of Mammoth Mountain. The following amenities are located just a few short minutes away:

Mammoth Snowmobile Adventures is the perfect outfitter for first-timers or seasoned experts. Experienced guides and top-of-the-line equipment grant you access to California's greatest playground including: Thousands of acres of trails, pristine backcountry, spacious meadows, historic landmarks and lush pine forests.

A Geologic Wonder
Established in 1911 by presidential proclamation, Devils Postpile National Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. The formation is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of columnar basalt. Its columns tower 60 feet high and display an unusual symmetry.
Red Meadow Pack Station Day Rides - Many visitors to Red's Meadow may want the experience of horseback riding through the forest and seeing some scenic country.
“Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center + Devils Postpile/Rainbow Falls”
Gondola building at the top of Mammoth Mountain
800 626 6684
Combine these two to make a perfect day enjoying some of the best of the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. If you don't mind getting an early start, I recommend doing the Reds Meadown/Devil's Postpile/Rainbow Falls in the morning and the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center in the afternoon. If you combine the two, you will get to see a beautiful alpine meadow, a hexagonal columnar lava flow, a 100 foot waterfall, ride a gondola and a 400 mile view of the Eastern Sierra Nevadas and still have time to go fishing or play a round of golf.
The hike to the falls traverses a burned out area of the forest and is exposed to the elements, so remember to bring water and apply sunscreen.
Driving down to the Postpile during the shuttle season (summer) is restricted to disabled, visitors to Red's Meadow resort and campers. Park at the Adventure Center (where you can take the Panorama Gondola to the Top of the Sierra)
Minaret Vista Point:Take the scenic drive in the summer or walk in the winter up to the Minaret Vista Point for quick access to some of the best views in all the Eastern Sierras, including panoramas of Mt. Ritter, Mt. Banner, and of course, the namesake Minarets
Experience the adventure of Mammoth's new Tube Park + Snow Play Area, perfect for all ages - featuring lights, music, and action! Come take the ride of your life on our groomed tubing lanes or stay warm by the heaters with a cup of hot cocoa. Families with little kids can build a snowman and enjoy the snow play area. Woolly's Adventure Summit is located on Minaret Road (SR203) approximately halfway between The Village at Mammoth and Main Lodge.

Sometimes you have to Rave!
I am not a person who typically writes reviews, but I have traveled extensively. I just want to comment on the wonderful experience we just had Mammoth Mountain Chalets. Each Chalet is individually owned, with full time onsite operation managers. This stay was for my father's 90th birthday...a family reunion. Everything in our chalet so far surpassed our expectations, from contact with the owner to the on site managers, to the chalet itself. The pictures did not do it justice. Everything is there for you. The place just works, with plenty of space for the 8 of us, to comfortable beds, to wonderful quiet, to a fully stocked kitchen. Truly a great place to stay in the Mammoth area. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks to the manager and the owner's care and kindness.

Great summer vacation spot
Great summer vacation spot
We can't say enough great things about this vacation rental. We enjoyed this chalet with our 2 boys (ages 10 & 12) and our labrador retriever for a week this past July. To quote my husband, "It was the best vacation ever." The chalet had everything you could possibly need to be comfortable while on vacation. The property managers were great. They gave us good recommendations of the area, were knowledgable, friendly and responsive. Our family enjoyed mountain biking and hiking right out of the front door of this chalet. The chalet was so close to the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park and Adventure Center that we were able to bike back to the chalet at lunch time and to rest then continue out for the rest of the afternoon. We can't say enough good things about this vacation rental.

Just as described!
Just as described!
We were very content with the house and its maintenance. The management was responsive. The upstairs bedroom with the 3 twins is perfect for the kids, and they had their own bathroom. Mammoth Lakes as a region is breathtaking, so definitely take the time to explore all the little lakes. At times it felt like we had an entire lake to ourselves! The lakes are cold but worth dipping in, and the kids' favorite highlights probably included renting a motorboat on Lake Mary. The mountain air is chilly and at times windy, even in August, so be sure to bring sweaters. Oh, and keep the kids away from the overpriced jumpy activities around the Gondola, they are not worth it.... On the other hand, if want to ride the Gondola up Mammoth Mountain, or take the shuttle to Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls, the location is perfect, as the starting point is literally next door.

Amazing Cabin in the woods
Amazing Cabin in the woods
This place is great. It is hard to find a cabin in mammoth, most places are condos, and this one is perfect. You can go hiking right outside of the cabin. There is a beautiful deck to BBQ on and enjoy the scenery. I would recommend this place very highly.

My family and parents stayed in the Steigler Chalet #23 for 10 days in June. The chalet was in a good location, near the Mammoth Mountain Inn. The chalet was spacious enough for our group of 6 and 2 Golden retrievers. My dogs loved sitting out on the deck watching the chipmucks at play every evening. The beds were comfortable and my boys loved that they had WIFI. Romie, Dale and Kris were very helpful with any problems that came up with the chalet. There was working being done on Chalet #21 during our stay and the power was accidentally turned off, but the managers took care of everything right away. I would recommend this chalet.

Beautiful setting and quaint chalet
Beautiful setting and quaint chalet
If you want to step back in time and experience a beautiful, quaint setting in the forest, this is the place to go. I have stayed in the chalets twice, and both times have been wonderful. They have old world craftsmanship combined with comfortable beds. We loved our stay and enjoyed being away from the rest of the world while being only steps from the ski slopes. It was just so relaxing.

One of our best family vacations yet!Guest comment entered by manager
One of our best family vacations yet!
This was our 2nd trip to Mammoth and our first stay at the Mammoth Mountain Chalets. Booked our stay through the website with no problems and the owner of the chalet, John Stiegler, was uber-responsive and helpful in answering all of my questions prior to our trip. Once we arrived, Dale and Romie got us set up in our chalet in a matter of minutes (which is no small matter given we are a family of five). In addition to just being super nice people, during our stay, they were very responsive to any questions we had and did much to acquaint us with what was available for our enjoyment in the area. The cabin itself was spacious and plush. Another family joined us, bringing our total number to 9, and it accommodated us perfectly. We loved being close to lifts and being able to visit the Inn and even grab the shuttle into the Village from where we were. Needless to say, it was our first trip to the Chalets but it definitely won't be our last. Usually a trip is filled with one or two hickups along the way, but not this one. In fact, my kids were already asking me when we were coming up again as we were heading down the mountain. I really can't say enough about how smoothly everything went except only how John, Dale, and Romie helped make this one of our best family vacations yet!

What a trip!
What a trip!
We just returned from Mammoth and cannot believe how much fun we had! We had three couples with small children and could not have imagined a more fun, exciting and convenient vacation. The location of this chalet blew us away! We were on the mountain!! We were able to ski in ski out and go sledding WITHOUT having to load everyone in our cars. In fact, we never got in our cars once during the whole 3-day weekend! Everything we wanted to do was literally out our back door. The chalet is exactly as pictured and the owner bent over backwards to help us book the chalet only two weeks in advance. The staff on site was very friendly and the snow cat ride to and from the chalet was a highlight for the kids. What a VIP weekend! I cannot imagine staying anywhere else!

Mammoth Mountain Chalets was the perfect place for my family to enjoy Mammoth Mountain. It is literally walking distance to the main lodge and the a-frame chalet was perfect. It is rustic; meaning it is literally in the woods which adds to the ambience of getting away from it all. It also has everything you need - wood fireplace, flat screen with cable, wi-fi, dishwasher, microwave, etc. We will be back for sure.
