Cazenovia offers a wide array of activities: - Cazenovia Lake is a great place for fishing, canoeing, and swimming. And during the winter there are many parks and areas to go hiking, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing. There are also numerous nearby restaurants with options for a quiet meal on an outdoor patio, a local old english pub setting, live music, and many outdoor venues available in the summer.
Restaurants and Things to do
Dave's Diner - This is our favorite place for breakfast or a quick lunch. The atmosphere is very relaxed and offers a second room with large tables for having coffee and conversing with larger groups.
Brae Loch Inn - Brae Loch Inn on Friday (7-11) or Sunday afternoon (4-8) for their live music on the lawn. Its a fun outdoor venue, usually starts out very relaxed and then may or may not get crazy as the night progresses. This is normally every week, but you can always call the Brae Loch if you have any questions or to confirm (315) 655 3431 or check their website www.braelochinn.com.
Brewster Inn - The Brewster Inn is a really nice historical restaurant, with a local flare and relaxing side offered through the tavern area and outdoor tables. I recommend venturing there one afternoon for appetizers and a drink on the back lawn. They open at 5pm, but may be open for lunch on weekends in the summer.
Seven Stone Steps (located at the Lincklean House) - Great English Pub type setting within a historical hotel. Definitely try the homemade Lincklean House chips. (http://www.lincklaenhouse.com/dining_SSS.html)
Les Pâtes et Les Nouilles (Thai Food, I'm not sure why it has a french name) - The service can be slow, but the food is amazing!! Great for takeout too. 37 Albany Street, Cazenovia (315) 815-4213.
Cazenovia Pizza - Great Pizza, they just added a new restaurant area too. I haven't tried the new section of tables, but it looks like they did a really nice job. They also deliver! (315) 655 4161.
Farmer's Market - There is a farmer's market in town on Saturday morning that is a good excuse to grab breakfast at
Antiquing - There is great antiquing, just follow Route 20 East and you will see antique stores almost immediately. If you are a serious antiquer, I recommend traveling East on Route 20 to Bouckville where multiple antique shows are held every year and many antique stores thrive. Bouckville is approximately 16 miles from the house.
The Farm in Caz (3845 Thomas Rd) - The Farm in Caz has horses, donkeys, chickens, and lots of land to explore. If you schedule your visit right you or your children may even be able to collect the eggs from the chickens. My parent's actually run The Farm in Caz so just tell them you are staying at the cottage, they'll take good care of you. If you would like to call ahead my sister you can schedule Pony rides for the kids (315) 655 9573, ask for Jennifer or Bonnie. Jennifer is my sister, Bonnie is my mom :).
Johnny Appleseeds - Johnny Appleseed's in Erieville is a great local family owned and run spot in the country with furniture to smaller items such as candles, scarves, candy, and jewelry (relax with a cup of coffee in their cafe area during your stop). As the family started the business as an apple farm, you can also buy fresh picked apples during the season. This store is huge, I'm always a bit surprised at how big and the high quality of the store based on where it is, people come from all over to shop here.
The Key - This is an odd item to list on here, but the Key is the consignment shop in town. I have to admit its a funny place, but there are some days when they have great clothes. My friends (who live allover the place now) and I all laugh that we still stop in at the Key whenever we are in town :).
Highland Forest - Over 20 miles of year-round trails are the prime attraction at the 'Adirondacks of Central New York.' The oldest county park contains more than six square miles of rugged forest terrain detailed in free maps available at Skyline Lodge; a self-guided Nature Trail is the perfect introductory hike.
Sylvan Beach - A flash back in time, about 45 minutes away is nestled on the Eastern Shore of Oneida Lake, NY, along the historic Erie Canal, the Sylvan-Verona Beach Resort Area offers something for everyone. From sandy beaches, picnics, boating, amusement park, outstanding camping facilities, marinas, the finest fishing in Central New York, beautiful sunsets on Oneida Lake and a wide variety of restaurants and shops, the area's diversity and scenic beauty are amazing and will appeal to the entire family. Chittenango Falls - A picturesque 167 foot waterfall is the main attraction of Chittenango Falls State Park! Glacial sculpting over 400 million year-old bedrock is responsible for this scenic feature. An interesting variety of both plants and wildlife may be found along the trails. Visitors can view the falls from the top, walk the winding trail into the gorge view the falls from the footbridge and return to the top along the small trail on the opposite side of the gorge. Activities include fishing, hiking and picnicking.
