I rented this place for 8 days as my mother was visiting from South Africa. Arrived on night of the the 16th and couldn't get in. Were told keys would be "in the lockbox". Problem was, there were numerous lockboxes and we had not received instructions of which one or how to access it. We spend an hour outside freezing while we tried to contact the rental agents and owners. No answer. Finally the neighbor helped us but was not happy about it. Says he gets bothered all the time by realtors to figure out this stuff he doesn't get paid for. Yes, realtors ! They are selling this place. Apart from the filth in the place (cockroaches in the kitchen, smelly, dirty dishes, carpets and floors), the realtor thing was the worst part. The phone rang nonstop wanting "to show" the house. Finally after telling a few of them we were renting it and not open to that, we called the owners. Craig (one of them) was rude and said "So unplug the phone!" We did just that, but that did not stop them from showing up at the door. One of them walked right in when my 70yr old Mom was getting out of the shower! Another one left a card on the table letting us know he'd been there while we were out. So if you have any valuables I suggest you take them with you when you go anywhere. The second day we were there we prepared food for a bbq only to find it didn't work. $40 later after replacing an emptly propane tank, we find there's a deeper problem. BBQ canceled. The next day our engineer friend visited and fanagled (sp?) some way to fire it up by bypassing something (not the safest contraption but it worked). After the realtor debacle we had a day or so without interruption, and on our last day we get another realtor show up who has set the whole morning up with appts. to show the house as he was told by the owners we would have left. They told us we booked for 7 days when we had book (and paid) for 8. So that whole thing took time to fix ruining yet another morning of plans. The realtor was appalled at how we were treated and said we should demand a refund. He also said it's a cheap property and you get what you pay for. WHAT? There are places renting for $20 a day more. It will be the best $20 you ever spend. The owners said absolutely not on a refund & they were only prepared to refund us for one day. Wow! Big deal. So $110 after propane and a LOT of frustration. Oh, and my daughter had to sleep on the sofa the whole trip as the beds were so bad in the kids room.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We've stayed in Cambria many times before at different vacation rentals. We chose this one because you really can't beat the price and it looked decent in the pictures. A few things to be aware of before you choose this home: 1. This rental accepts pets. There is definitely pet odor and carpet stains, which we suspect are caused from pet urination. They use carpet freshener to mask the odor, but you can definitely smell it. 2. The pictures make it seem it's closer to the ocean than it really is. They may have used a zoom lens when taking them - not sure. Kind of a long walk down there, but do-able. 3. Super squeaky top bunk as other reviewers have mentioned. Very annoying if that bed is being used. 4. The owner was very responsive when we had a problem operating the TV. She not only was available to help us, but even called back later to check that all was okay. Communication via email was also very quick. 5. Home has plenty of room and everything that you would need in a stay. Once again, if you're not looking for luxury...the price is right!Recommended for: Pet owners.

Our family stayed at this rental home for a week in October. The neighborhood is very quiet and the ocean view from the home is awesome!! The backyard is kind of scary ( NOT TAKEN CARE OF) if you have a pet there is NO door going out to the backyard from the house! You have to walk out front and go around down to the backyard through the gate. There is a bunkbed in the kids room but the top bunk has no guard rails around it so if you have a kid who sleeps crazy like mine does, it is not a good idea to have them up there ,luckily she liked the guest room right next door. The rental smells and was not very clean when we arrived there was trash all over the front yard I think the raccoons got into it!! The washing machine was broken but after calling the owners several times it finally got fixed about 4 days later! Being close to the ocean and the view make up for it. The town is nice and moonstone beach is great!! I would stay here again but it needs to be cleaned from top to bottom!!Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing.

Just stayed at this cute house last week. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The house is a split level, as soon as you walk in, the stairs going down has 2 bedrooms, one bathroom and the garage. The stairs up have the master bedroom with its own bathroom, the living room and kitchen. I liked the bench seat so we could see the ocean. The balcony was refreshing in the morning and evening also. The downstairs bedrooms were decent size. One had a bunk bed with a full size on bottom and twin on top. My only problem with that room was any move you made in that bed whether it be the top bunk or bottom, the bed squeaked very loudly. All night long it kept me up along with the next door neighbors windchimes. You definitely need to bring your toiletries, also if you plan on cooking anything that needs to be drained, bring your own strainer. My family really enjoyed the air hockey table in the garage and the nice big size TV in the living room. The house was definitely worth the price we paid. We would definitely stay again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

This is our first time staying in a vacation rental home. Our experience was absolutely awesome. Beyond our expectations. House had everything we needed. Coffee in the morning listening and looking at the ocean. We glanced below us and saw deer in the backyard. Watched the sunset over the ocean from the window. Beds were comfortable. House was very clean and comfortable. Will recommend to family and friends.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+.

Just returned last night from an amazing 4 days at this wonderful home. Clean and comfortable! The view out the back deck & from master bedroom is breathtaking, all ocean and trees! And yes, you can hear the waves crashing on shore! We had deer every morning! You MUST remember to bring your own toiletries.......toilet paper! Papertowels for the kitchen too. The house is NOT good for anyone that has issues with stairs....you have to climb them to get to front door, up to the kitchen/living area & down to garage. Went to Hearst Castle Night Tour - very cool! Saw the sea lions & elephant seals in San Simeon, got there 30 minutes after one had been born! (Now through Feb is birthing & mating season) This was the 1st time I have done anything through VRBO and will do it again! Plan to come back in a few weeks............and hope the house will be available again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

lovely ocean views, great fun listening to the seals bark, nice kitchen wares so it was very accomodating to cook our main meals and enjoy the sun sets, property is close to all the touristic type of entertainment some of our favorites was visiting Paso Robles, found a wonderful sushie restaurant in old town we went there twice, we drove all the way to Monte Rey which was divine discovered a Parisian bakery I was in heaven. The vineards and orchards are a site to see, there is a modest and fresh French pastry shop down town Cambria I love animals but didn't care for the pet odor throughout the house or hair on the bed spred which I laundered upon settling in, couldn't get a good Internet line since we had no way of accessing the owners code, we had brought with us our Roku unit to watch movies and were not able to use. Owner never answered our requests, left the house better than we found it. We did enjoy our stay, next time I won't choose a place that allows pets even thought I love my pets too. My house doesn't smell.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+.

We have just booked our third trip back to this wonderful vacation rental! We highly recommend this charming place. It has been everything we expected and more! The house and property is very well maintained and the photos accurately reflect its true charm. The kitchen is well equipped, and the dining area has a lovely window view of tree tops and an ocean view. We enjoyed the cozy fireplace in the living room; spotting deer out on the balcony (they are all over the neighborhood!) and walks down to the ocean which is just minutes away. It is a five minute drive into old town Cambria. My husband enjoys reading the sports page at the French bakery in town while I window shop to my heart's content! It's only a 10-15 minute drive to Hearst Castle. We love the fact that the owner has made this place pet friendly, too! Our little Maltese and Lhasa feel right at home here and love romping around and going for walks on Moonstone Beach! The owner of the property is very nice and is easy to reach when booking and answering questions.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
