Big Island Hawaii Vacation Rental

The Tiki Lounge at Kapoho Tide Pools Kapoho, Hawaii Vacation Rental by Owner Listing 33450

Location: Kapoho, Puna District, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (On Big Island's eastern most shore, 25 miles south of Hilo.)

Accommodations:  House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)

Keywords:  House

Come on down and enjoy our just completed home, with high ceilings and a view rich loft, set in the incomparable seaside community of Kapoho. Designed (by a heroic local legend), to amplify your one of a kind tropical vacation. Aptly named, "The Tiki Lounge", it sets the mood for whatever Big Island experience you could dream of.

NOTE TO ANYONE WHO HATES EARTHQUAKES: I just want to add a little something here...... You might have heard about Hawaii's earthquake in October, we did experience shaking here in Kapoho. But, not one thing fell in the Tiki Lounge, or in my house down the street, or any of my neighbors' homes. My husband and I moved here to Kapoho in November, 1989, from California. I HATE EARTHQUAKES!!!! Our farm there was 6 miles from epicenter of Loma Preiata Quake. Since living here, I have only felt 2, and was surprised to feel no aftershocks at all, (you could call me VERY sensitive). However, after our California disaster, we are quite mindful of tremors. My husband kept this in mind when constructing our Tiki Lounge. The home is beautifully built with Simpson Hardware throughout, also, we never lost electricity either.

The house has been built up, so the living area is on the second story. There is a laundry facility downstairs. The two bedrooms are set just right to capture our fragrant tradewinds. A recent government study found that we have the finest air quality in ALL the United States, (the researcher then bought a place here!). You'll sleep in such comfort, (in the new beds, or the pull-out futon couch).

The rustling palm fronds, night showers, and waves on the reef, sing a lullaby. The ladder access loft is sure to delight your keiki. The roof has been insulated, (a rarity here), and the ceiling fans and generous window placement keep the house so pleasant and cool.

A spacious lanai wraps around 3 sides of the house, perfect for dining and stargazing. With no streetlights, the night sky will astound you, and spoil you forever! A veritable rash of brilliance. Love the coconut palms in silhouette! The full moon is so bright, it brings color to the landscape.

We have you well equipped for most all your needs, including an outdoor lava rock BBQ. Please dig your pit for roasting pigs in the designated area. Inquire about availability of fresh caught ahi, and other sea treats.

Our in-house library offers books for every taste, and a musical collection, that includes Hawaiian Slack-Key greats, the exotic sounds of Martin Denny, The Tiki Tones and the like. Learn to play the ukulele. Of course there is a blender for drinks (with umbrellas).

Set on a corner lot, the garden is a riot of colorful and intoxicating flowers. A grove of bananas, plantings of papayas, passionfruit, herbs, plumeria, and palms surround the lawn... You are welcome to enjoy it all! If you don't see what you want, you'll find it at the many local fruit stands and tri-weekly farmers markets.

Every thing grows and blooms in abundance here. Make your own leis from plumeria! The Puna district is home to world renowned flower growers. Visit acres of orchids, anthuriums, and other tropical delights at nearby farms, and botanical gardens. Plant enthusiast prepare to be enthused!

You'll find a treasure trove of adventures perfect for the family: Romance, artistic inspiration, cultural immersion, surfing, fishing, swimming, exploring, as well as nearby connections to holistic health centers, yoga retreats, and massage. Heal yourself in local hot ponds. A five minute stroll, door to shore, for the unforgettable pleasure of snorkeling in our neighborhood's supreme coral gardens. Get to know the many types of exotic reef fish. Forget finding Nemo, all his friends are here. Just off the protective outer reef, watch whales cavort by. Walk a bit up the shore to a sparkling warm pond, on Kapoho Bay, to swim with sea turtles. Take an awe inspiring drive down to Kahena Beach, and join dolphins in the waves. Surfing is perfect a five minute ride to Pohoiki Bay. Also home to the local boat ramp, that brings in the second largest bounty of fish in the state. Take a cooler of icy beer to share, and swap fishing tales.

Did I mention Ahalannui Park a mile away? Try this geothermal heated ocean-front pond. I find the therapeutic waters too hot for me in the noon day sun, (at 90-95 degrees), it is absolutely perfect for a phenomenal rainy day swim. Visit right after the sun rises, or late in the afternoon, and watch the waves as they catch the sublime colors of a palm rimmed sky. Handicapped access is a God-send for the sore and injured. You can drive right up and safely enter the water on a ramp with railing.

Okay, this is just the neighborhood, we have had more than one happy group of visitors that never ventured further away. Day trip adventures are varied and way too numerous too mention. We would love to go over your excursion plans, if you desire, with maps, adding local lore, and enthusiastic suggestions.

The Big Island is truly a wonder. Home to 19 of the worlds 21 climate zones. Where else can you play in the snow, and surf, in the same day? Where else can you walk right up to oozing lava, and watch it pour into the sea, setting it to boil? This place connects you to the dawn of time. Amazing to see land in the throws of creation.

Like I said, too much fun, too much beauty, too much heaven here on earth to describe. You are on the cusp of it all. Come and enjoy....we'll leave a tiki torch on for you.
