We had a great time over the Christmas holiday in Chite! Our first visit to Spain, and the location of this property was perfect for day trips to Granada, Salobrenna, Sierra Nevada, etc. The house gave us the feel of life in the rural villages of Spain. We could not have found a better location for our trip!

My husband, myself and another couple (all of us seniors) spent 2 wonderful weeks in Spain in late October 2011. Having just randomly picked this house and location we did not know what to expect ,but everything was as described. The owner was very helpful before we left home, responding promply to any questions. The house was very clean, well furnished, the beds comfortable and the kitchen well equipped We found it especially helpful to have an automatic washer to do our laundry. There was even detergent and fabric softener there, although we did replace the fabric softener since we used it all up. We sat on the terrace whenever we were around to enjoy the mountain views and the sunshine. Each morning as I opened my eyes there were the mountains! With the narrow streets, white buildings, pomegranates and oranges growing everywhere we felt like we were in an old Spanish village. We did two overnights away; one to Cadiz and one to Cordoba, Both ciites definitely worth the visit, especially the "old town" quarters. The gardens at the Alcazar in Cadiz are stunning, much nicer than the gardens at the Alhambra in Granada. But finding a place to park in both cities will test your patience! We visited the cave at Nerja and having seen many caves in our travels to the U.S. we expected this to be just another cave. But it was extraordinary and worth the time spent. We also went to one of the beaches at Nerja for lunch and then put our toes into the Meditteranean. Many people were swimming but it was too chilly for us "hardy" Canadians! Driving one day we happened upon the town of Guadix. It was fascinating to see houses like caves built into the sides of the hills. We even ate in a restaurant inside a cave, but you would never know it was a cave. Also toured a couple of "cave" homes and they were very comfortable. The woman at the tourist information told us that some of the "caves" were like mansions inside. I would definitely recommend finding your way to this attraction as it is so unusual. We took lots of photos. We drove up into the mountains along some very "curvy" roads. But the "Autovia" highways and tunnels were among the best roads we have ever travelled. Our first restaurant (and again at the end of our visit) was to Las Naranjos. It is nearby (but you will need directions), friendly and the food was reasonable and tasty. This home was in a great location for sightseeing to other areas in the Andalusia part of Spain. ENJOY

We spent a month at Lief's home in Chite, Spain, and had a wonderful time. The home is built in the classic Spanish style, and is very cozy and nicely furnished. The highlights are the two large terraces, both with beautiful mountain views. The large terrace off the kitchen has a table and chairs, and we spent many a night having dinner as the sun set over the valley. If you are looking to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of busy life, Chite is an excellent choice. The town is around 500 people, and it's a very calm place. Every day, multiple cars come beeping their horns and selling goods ranging from fresh bread to fruits to fresh seafood. While figuring out which cars sell what items takes a few days, it's a great system for getting fresh food! Chite itself has no real stores to speak of, so you need to drive 3 minutes or walk for about 15 to get to the nearest town with restaurants and shops. We didn't have a car for an entire month - and had a good time - but having a car would definitely be nice for running errands and to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Overall, a great place that I highly recommend.

This is the most beautiful house in a quiet corner of a very quiet village, you have everything you need. The views from the two terraces are spectacular, the valley, mountains, orange groves and reservoir are almost too much to take in. We had beach days, city(Grenada - Alhambra) days and mountain walk days. I almost don't want to say too much as I want to keep it to myself. Lief was really helpful and we got great advice and maps. I cannot praise this lovely property highly enough. Thank you for a perfect holiday. Points to ponder - you need a car and local restaurants are not brilliant but you can buy excellent local produce.

I spent amazing 7 weeks in Casa Conejillo in Dec/Jan 2010-11. A fantastic trip with breath taking scenery of the mountains, beaches, gorgeous weather, peace and quiet, oranges and lemons everywhere! Visiting Granada, Malaga, Ronda or some of the gorgeous beaches on odd days, or discovering nearby villages where they had weekly market, flea market or just the usual Sunday afternoon celebration with home-made tapas was real treats. And wasn't any less if I just decided to stay in for the day -just sitting on the terrace and admiring the view all day would've done it for 7 weeks for me! I hope you will enjoy this gorgeous and warm Andalucian home as much as I did. Thank you Lief.

Travelling around western Andalucia by rental car, we were looking for a good home base where we could enjoy the comforts of home (unpacking for a week, cooking many of our own meals, surfing the net, watching international TV) while still being able to take a great day trip everyday and getting into our usual mischief. Lief´s home in Chite certainly fit the bill. Located in a quiet little village midway between Granada and the coast and with almost immediate access to Las Alpujarras, we were able to find ourselves in many wonderful places by driving between 30 minutes and one hour. Granada, Lanjaron, Nerja were all at our disposal. A beautiful little town just 10 minutes away is Niguelas. We went there for the wonderful bakery (Park your car at the entrance of the village and walk in. You will see the signs to the Panaderia). We had great weather and didn´t require extra heating. The vistas from the terrace and windows are beautiful with the local church lit beautifully in the lower part of the town. I enjoyed my catnap on the terrace following menu del dia. All in all, a very serviceable casa which I would recommend to anybody who has the freedom that one´s own car provides. Lief has some interesting books on her shelves among which is South of Granada, an easy read which gives you a very good sense of place and history.

The Thermometer on the dashboard showed 12°C. OK, it was early in the morning when we left home to the airport, but it wouldn't get much warmer that day. Luckaly we where flying to Granada where is woud be much better. At least, that's what we hoped for. Unfortunately when arriving in spain the sky was as grey as at home and it wasn't much warmer. Was this really nice time off we waited for for so Long ? The next morning the sun was shining brightly through the windows of Casa Conejillo and invited us upt to the terrace for breakfast. It would only get better during the rest of the week. Somewhere during that particular journey we decided to go to restaurant "Los Naranjos". A pittoresque place in Melegis on the road to Restabal. Their terrace looked very inviting, but perhaps a bit cold in springtime (evening). The enormous barroom was completely empty. That night we had dinner like kings... How the conversation got to marriage has been completely erased out of my memory. A few phrases though... Me : "Maybe we should go for it." She (surprised) : "Is this a proposal or am I getting this wrong ?" Me : "then what would be your answer ?" That was last year in may. We married this year april 15th. Also this summer we went back. Chite and this beautiful house will allways have a special place in our hart. It has become place we hope to return to many times.
Owner response:Many happy years to Iris and Chris! Casa Conejillo is definitely a place for a romantic getaway, wouldn't you agree? Note for the readers: something went wrong with the date of stay. Itwas not September 2010, but May 20, 2010 and August 20, 2011.

We stayed in Casa Conejillo for 4 weeks in July 2010. Upon arriving, we were awestruck by the ample room in the house and by the magnificent mountain views from both terraces. Even though it was a very hot summer, there was always a cool breeze blowing. In the house, we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The decor in the house is lovely. We had easy access to Granada, the Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada and the beach by car (a rental), using the highway that runs on the other side of the valley (it is audible but not bothersome, and oh so convenient!). There are plenty of pleasant walks to be had among the orange and lemon groves. We already miss the mountains and hope to be back soon!

We had such a fantastic time at Casa Conejillo. It was close enough to do day trips both to the mountains and to the beautiful beaches. If you want a place that really shows you Spain, this is it. The Casa had plenty of room with spectacular views. The little town is charming. Thanks for a wonderful vacation! Shirley and Larry

Thank you for sharing your beautiful vacation home with us. It is in a perfect location for exploring the Andalusian area. An easy drive on a well maintained highway to both Granada and the coast. We loved the village of Chite and the surrounding area. The well equipped kitchen was perfect for preparing local fare which we enjoyed on the patio with spectacular vistas. Your home is full of old world charm and modern conveniences. Very clean and most tastefully decorated throughout, it was perfect for our Spanish holiday. We will most definitely return to this gem. Gracias por todo.

We have now stayed here in Casa Conejillo for two and a half weeks. We extended our stay for several days because we have enjoyed it so much here. Chite is a great location for reaching the different cities and attractions in the area. Granada is only 20 minutes away and the beach about 30. Chite is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada (great view from terrace) and the Alpaharras is the next exit on the highway from here. The other villages in the Lecrin valley is also worth a visit. We have stayed here in Casa Conejillo with our 9 month year old baby which has been great. The owner has been most friendly and helpful. We have already recommended Casa Conejillo to our frinds home in Norway!

My family stayed in Casa Conejillo for 4 months at the beginning of a two year European break. We had spent a long time planning our trip from Australia and didn't quite know what to expect although we did have many very informative emails from the owner. The fact that it was in 'the valley of happiness' seemed like a great omen. When we arrived in Chite and at the Casa both went way beyond our expectations in fullfilling our dream of a Spanish holiday. The village was white, filled with tiny winding alleys, donkeys and sunshine.Casa Conejillo was wonderful..big spaces, lots of levels with the most breathtaking views over the valley from its sunny deck. It was well equipped with everything we needed to live. The views from our bedroom window were equally breathtaking and the bathroom was a treat that has to be experienced to appreciate it!Our children(2,6 and 10) spent their days exploring the campo..visiting the donkeys, building cubbies in the orange orchards, walking with the local children to the creek at the bottom of the orchards or walking into the next village to buy the milk or other supplies...FREEDOM and Kid heaven!! Casa Conejillo is a short walk from the next village where you have supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and all other essential facilities. It is a short drive to Granada and all its wonders,a short drive to the Sierra Navada for some great skiing( a very easy day of skiing we often did) and just under an hour from the coast. It was the first time that we had ever skiied in the morning and hit the beach in the afternoon..you can't get much better than that!! We loved the Casa so much that we had to extend our time there from 6 weeks to 4 months! We even visited later in the year just to soak up a little more of paradise we had fallen in love with! The owner and the support people in the village could not do enough to make our holiday an extremely memorable one...we appreciated their help and friendly advice so much. We all have such fond memories of Chite and Casa Conejillo and we often think of our time in that little corner of Andalusia!! We will definitely be returning for another visist one day!!
