Butte Creek Perfect Getaway

Chico Creekfront Perfect Getaway in beautiful Butte Creek Canyon. 2500 sq ft home GREAT for family reunions, getaways or as a romantic retreat or stay. Swim with the salmon all summer in the deep hole off the back deck where 40-100 salmon stay from April to October when they spawn. Watch them jump as you enjoy dinner on the deck or use the mask & snorkle to see them up close as they flutter by you. Take the sturdy stairs that lead down to some great diving rocks. There are kayaks to rent if you wish to adventure down to the historical cover bridge. It is an easy go of it but exciting and beautiful all the same. Enjoy bird watching or get lucky to see deer, quail, turkey vultures, otters or a variety of waterfowl. Listen to the creek as you soak in the tub or enjoy the hot tub on the back deck. This is truly a perfect getaway just minutes from Chico. If you love to bike, it is a perfect 7 mile ride downhill to the 6 hole golf course or bike up for a great scenic workout. This is also a historical sight and you can learn about the diamondville area in the gold rush days at the museum just 2 miles further up. Else, inquire about a special guest pass to get access to the mining cave on site.

We shared this home with two other families w/small children. One preschool age and two toddlers. It was a great place for us all. The home it self is set up perfectly for spending time w/friends. The kitchen living room and small bar all open up to one another keeping everyone (especially the kids) in view. The view from the back patio is amazing and so relaxing, even with the chilly mornings we all had our coffee & breakfast out there for a spectacular start to our day. We used the jaquzzi out there in the evenings after putting the kids to bed, a perfect way to wrap up the day. Just a short drive to down town where there are so many great places to visit. Thanks for a great stay! We'll be back!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This house was comfortable for a larger group. We enjoyed spending time in the large living room and on the patio or deck. The owner checked in to see if we needed any supplies or assistance several times during our visit. There were no large glaring problems. There were a few spider webs and dead bugs in corners of rooms on arrival, but as might be expected in a large home in the country. Some would prefer not to have carpet in a bathroom, but perhaps that is owner preference. Staying in early spring is recommended when everything is lush and green!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My two grown children and I wanted to spend the weekend at a relaxing, beautiful place. Trust me, we scoured the internet and settled on "A Perfect Getaway." Our expectations were too limited. The house is wonderful, large, light-filled and full of every comfort you could think of. My daughter's favorite thing: listening to the rushing river right below the deck; my son's favorite: the comfortable chairs and couch for watching the large, surround-sound TV and my favorite: the challenging but fun climb down the stairs and ladder to the gorgeous river, easily viewed from the upper deck (granted, at age 65 and with a very bad ankle, I looked a bit foolish but had a ball - so pretty, so refreshing!) We could see salmon jumping to feed at dusk in the protected river. There are so many things to do -- play pool; cook on the large, new barbeque; sit and talk on the spacious, open deck; choose from a large stock of movies; cook in the marvelously appointed kitchen; play volleyball outside on the trimmed grassy area; hike down to the river and swim in the large pool or just gaze across the river and up the canyon; take a nap in the large master or other bedrooms; relax in the large hot tub.........and there is more. "A Perfect Getaway" is true to its name. We have rented dozens of homes and cabins in northern California and Tahoe and this is one we cannot wait to return to. It is lovely, peaceful, open, quiet, comfortable and, most importantly, in the heart of nature. You won't be sorry!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

I would highly recommend this property! The house is located in such a beautiful setting. It was such a blessing that we had stayed in such a peaceful and welcoming retreat. We had been up in Chico for our Daughters wedding and coming "home" to this home instead of a hotel really topped off our week! I can't wait to come back in the Summer! This would be a great place for a large family to stay and enjoy "The Perfect Getaway".Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Nancy was great meeting us because of our late arrival and escorting us to the property after dark. Nice place for our son's girlfriend's family and his family to get together for the first time. We visited, grilled salmon (from Costco -- not Butte Creek) shared a meal, sang some songs, played games and got to know each other. We really enjoyed the deck and mornings when the sun shone on the creek so we could see the salmon spawning. We even saw a beaver! The setting was picturesque, the sound of the water flowing was relaxing, and the drive to and from Chico was beautiful and didn't seem too far away for us -- we live in LA County and everyone commutes! Biggest concern was no cell service or house phone for emergencies, with two senior citizens, one of whom passed out on Saturday (elsewhere) from the heat. And no Internet -- wired or WiFi. Still would consider returning in the future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

I live in Scandanavia with my husband and two small boys, and have wanted to spend some time in my hometown of Chico for years - it's just been hard to find a place to stay for an extended visit where we can have some space and the comforts of home. This house was nearly PERFECT. The setting is magical, the entertaining and cooking areas are generous, functional, and a sort of luxurious "cabin" standard. There was something for everyone - from 5 year olds to 95 year olds. Our little family of four enjoyed quiet mornings watching the sunrise over the bluffs sitting in the jacuzzi, as well as having informal get togethers on the back deck with friends, and 20+ family members join us on multiple occassions for dinner. The owner uses the house herself, so it has all modern comforts. We had the best time there and hope to return again someday. I can not think of a better place to stay with family when visiting the Chico area. Thank you and best regards!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The Perfect Getaway truly stands up to its name. Nancy the owner is kind, helpful and open to helping in whatever she could to make our month long vacation the best ever. The house is spacious, the kitchen is large, functional (important to me because I like to cook for my family) and well stocked with all the basics. We arrived in mid-June and never stopped having fun until the day we left in mid-July. I am a sports enthusiast especially outdoor sports, my sister a bit less, needless to say we all loved the contact with nature and the outdoors that the location provided. Every morning we watched the hummingbirds battle for their territory over the feeders, the blue jays that would come peck at the bird seed we had left in a basket, the turkey vultures that would circle over our heads, the squirrels that would run the length of the balcony every evening on their way home from a long day of squirrel work (I guess) and after the sunset marvel at the night sky. Nancy’s place is a short distance by car to all that we needed, the gym with babysitting services was at the bottom of the hill, restaurants in abundance (we didn’t need them) and shopping malls. This did not compare however to the wonderful introduction Nancy gave us to a long standing friend and professional (if I may add) kayak and river rafting instructor, Brad. I had long been looking to take ‘lessons’ and now I had no excuse, I was in the right place at the right time. Brad is laid back but very serious when it comes to the water. I felt at ease under his instruction, and loved every minute of the total experience, ‘Yes, even when the branches scratched my face!’ I felt it was my reward for being brave beginner. (I was a bit disappointed however when hardly anyone noticed.) On the very same day, Brad took our family, the entire inexperienced crew, which included: two 40 somethings, two thirteen year olds, two eight year olds and our four year old, to the Sacramento River. It was beyond a doubt one of those family experiences that memories are made of. Brad made everyone feel confident and safe. Even, Miles, our four year old had to help pump up the boat, help to carry it to the water and he had to help row. This was, for me, just one of the many highlights of my vacation, in what can accurately be called ‘The Perfect Getaway’ All the best to you Nancy and also my best to Brad, I will be back! The first thing we were told by the owner is that the deck has soft spots. Ok, we have small children so we won't let them out back. There was also a small refrigerator in the living area that was broken and the door was proped infront of it, again a hazard. We had a great time in the home and the AV system was a plus. There was even a pool table and the older kids enjoyed. We, did not enjoy however, saying in a rental with personal items all through the home, from food in the refrigerator, photos and even toothbrushes in the bathroom. We also spent our entire last day washing linens, and cleaning house, surely could have been included. During that time we did take out the enormous amount of cobwebs and did basic cleaning that should have been done ahead of time. While stripping down the beds is was clear that the pillows were about 20 years old and probably had been used for animal beds. The garbage had not been picked up from the home in sometime so we had to take some bottles, cans and garbage to town. Awesome. This is the kicker. One of our children broke a light cover that was hanging down over the pool table. When discussing this with the property owner she kept our deposit and actually acted as though the unit would be more expensive than that. First of all, we did our research to try to replace it and it came from HOME DEPOT. Although it was a cute fixure it came from Home Depot not Nortstroms. It was discontinued, old and out of date, and the owner stated that she would have to replace the whole unit. I think that it should just be clear that we made good faith effor the fix and relpace what we broke but were taken advantage of in this situation. We were even made aware that after we used the home the soap dispenser did not work quite right in the dishwasher. You have got to be kidding me. Here is my advice to you, stay in a hotel. Here is my advice to the owner, watch some DIY network, learn how to prepare your rental as you would if you were selling it. No one is really interested in seeing your family photos, moving your bathroom items over so they can use the sink, and spending the last day of their trip doing the housework for you. Hire a maid and allow your guest to relax and enjoy themselves. Please do not advertise your home as family friendly until you have taken away and repaired the hazards.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

About the owner: I work full time at the local community college but this getaway I bought is my true dream and renting it helps for me to afford it while continuing to work on making it even better year after year. My dream is to share it with others, improve it each year and have others appreciate it as much as I do and hopefully return year after year or tell their friends.
