The cabin was beautiful. It allowed for a sense of remoteness while having access to a number of wonderful spots. I highly recommend a jaunt to the winery and the Harbor View Cafe is phenomenal. The stay was great even if the weather wasn't.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Congratulations to you both! You are the first (that we know about) to be engaged at the cabin! May you both live as long as you want and never want as long as you live!

My friend and I traveled from Brooklyn to Minneapolis for New Years Eve, and decided last minute to book a cabin. I called Tim, the owner, and he was not only amenable to a next day stay, but was incredibly accomodating. The cabin is amazing! A lovely, natural burning fireplace, in combination with a very modern, and well-equipped kitchen, made for a stay in your pj's all day kind of trip. We wanted for nothing! The beds were comfortable, and the water was hot. That's a lot more than I can say for a lot of cabins that Ive rented in the past. Lovely views of the river and lake Pepin. I can honestly say nothing negative! Thanks Tim!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Winter is our favorite time to spend time at the cabin. Nothing like a fire in the fireplace to help relax along the quiet Mississippi Valley! There are more eagles and other wildlife to see and there is plenty of firewood.

Posted with guest permission for stay on Dec 22-25: We'll definitely be booking again with you in the future. We did see several eagles and took some walks on the beach. I don't think any of the restaurants were open during our stay due to Sunday and the holidays, but we wanted to stay in and cook anyway. Your place was well stocked with everything we needed to make all of our meals and really enjoy ourselves. It was exactly what we were hoping for, and the drive up there along the river was lovely. More than anything, we appreciated being able to bring our dog. I think she enjoyed roaming the beach even more than we did.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

From day one, Tim (owner) was easy to communicate with, via email and phone. We received some great info on places to eat and local detail. After arriving at the cabin, no problems getting in, and the cabin is beautiful! Was so convenient to bring our dog along too, she enjoyed being with us all week. Easy to get situated - there were plenty of blankets, pillows, things for cooking in the kitchen, towels, etc. It was so helpful to have movies, games, and especially the kid 'hideaway' room with toys. The house was also clean and tidy, bathrooms looked impeccable. I realized there were a number of things I didn't need to pack! We had a great time in Pepin. Love the lake, atmosphere, new winery, nearby Stockholm, the "Pizza Farm" (google it, very worth going!), and it was nice to have a beautiful place to come back to at the end of the day. We ate the fair share of our meals at the cabin, and it was set up so well for it with the barstools and large dining room table. Dishwasher helped make clean-up easier too. There were some minor things that stuck out, keeping us from ranking a full five stars. It took us a couple of days to get use to the trains. They ran by about once every 1 1/2 hrs, and sometimes slightly shook the cabin. Our son loved hearing the train whistle though, and getting a nickel flattened by the train as a souvenir. Sleeping was a bit of a challenge - there were seven of us total, two being under 5 years old. Our son was only able to sleep in the loft when my adult brother arrived to sleep in the loft also - this just would have worked better for us if our kids were older. The master bedroom was nice, and our daughter slept fine in her pack and play. Bedsprings were squeeky though, would be opportunity for improvement. My parents slept in the 'den' area - understand that this is not a separate room, I did not realize that, so they were out in the open living area on a futon, and it was a bit 'creeky' also. The only other thing was having the only entrance be through the garage - would probably be beneficial if there was ever an emergency to have another exit route available. Our overall experience was great, just a few minor tweaks and it would have been perfect! I would recommend that you consider staying at Pepin's Eagle's Nest. Thanks Tim and Jane for the stay at your beautiful home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed the perfect cabin decorating. Everything is very clean and well maintained. We loved sitting on the spacious deck at night and listening to the trains going by. There are so many things to do in the area but just be prepared as many places take only cash or check. Don't miss Pizza on the Farm outside of Stockholm for a great experience. We picked fantastic blueberries at Rush River Produce and tasted great wines at several wineries in the area. Stop at Nelson's Creamery for great picnic items and a good wine selection. The owners were very helpful in answering all our questions and providing information on the area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We love the pie in Stockholm. We love the little gold and iron shop down the street from you. Chatted with the women who work there and the husband/cop who was stopping in. Also met their kids. So many nice people around. I also like the Smith Bros shop down by the lake that sells all the garden stakes. I think I buy a couple every visit. I like glass and have done some glass fusing. Would like to get my own kiln some time, but I digress…. We did most our eating at the house. But generally were gone most the day. Really enjoyed the large deck. The weather was perfect, especially after it had been such a hot and humid summer. The house is lovely, just took a bit to get to know the place. I hope we followed all the instructions ok. Having a dishwasher is very nice. We did see eagles, lots of vultures and hawks too. One of our previous trips we found a little stream and parking lot off AA towards Maiden Rock, we like to let the dogs run there. They can wade and cool off when it is hot, so can we. We have been coming to the Lake Pepin area every summer for several years now but never really spent that much time in Pepin proper. We really enjoyed it and would like to come back."Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We really enjoyed our stay at the Eagles' Nest. I'd recommend this cabin for anyone who intends to spend time in Pepin. The house was super-clean, the great room was an awesome place to entertain, and there is a huge deck where we spent a fair amount of time relaxing. It was absolutely perfect for my husband and me, and it also had plenty of room for a few friends who dropped in for visits. I'm sure if we had kids, they would have loved the loft. We only had a week to spend in Pepin. Some things we enjoyed doing included: biking all around the area (the roads are endless and beautiful); sailing on Lake Pepin (daytime and sunset tours begin within walking distance down the street); visiting the Eagle Center in Wabasha (just 15 minutes away and I suspect would have even more eagle sightings in the winter); visiting the wineries in Pepin and Maiden Rock (there is a beautiful new winery right across the street); visiting the galleries and shops in Stockholm; driving up to Buena Vista Park in Alma to catch some spectacular views; and, of course, eagle watching. We didn't need to eat out too often due to the nice kitchen in the house, but we do recommend the Harbor View Cafe as well as the deli on Third Street whose name I cannot remember. The chef at the deli is a great character and a phenomenal cook. I've visited the Nelson Cheese Factory in the past and recommend that. And if you want REAL Wisconsin cheese curds, you must visit the Eau Galle Cheese Factory. If you want pub food, try Ralph and Mary's bar, too - an old favorite I missed out on this trip. Our regrets: We did not bring our boat, which would have been wonderful to have. We did not have time to rent kayaks, which you can do on Third Street. Overall, I'd recommend the Eagles' Nest highly for anyone who wants to do loads of fabulous things in a beautiful area and would like a nice quiet place to relax after a hard day of playing. We had one of our best vacations ever there and would certainly stay there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The deli is Two Old Guys and their pizza is awesome as well. We are lucky as there is another great pizza place in town, The Garden Pub & Grill which offers an open air seating along Hwy 35 and has recently added more deck space for live entertainment.

Just concluded our vacation at this home. Very clean, tidy, & beautiful home. Our only complaint would be the pictures shown on this site show a pretty good view of the lake.....this is no longer a "good" view. The trees have grown up & the view if very limited, so if a Lake View is a big thing for you, you would not be real happy with it. Other than that...VERY nice.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The trees have grown a bit. We will trim trees in the fall or spring. First complaint we have had with the view. Glad everything else was to your liking.

This home is the perfect spot to take advantage of all Wisconsin has to offer. Cheese factories, wineries, quaint shops and gorgeous scenery, all in your backyard when staying at the Pepin Eagles Nest. The home has everything you would ever need. It is super clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked. There's a beautiful large deck to enjoy the view of Lake Pepin and kick back and relax while grilling your dinner. The home is extremely roomy and comfortable and located in a very quiet neighborhood. Easy access to the water, and walking distance to the grocery store and great restaurants. Don't miss eating at Harbor View Cafe, Two Old Guys and The Pickle Factory. Owners Tim and Jane are wonderful to do business with and gave us plenty of helpful suggestions to enjoy the Pepin area. We are anticipating another visit. Thanks for sharing your home!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a simply wonderful time at the Eagles Nest. The house is beautiful, cozy, comfortable, and clean - everything you would look for in a vacation rental. In Pepin we enjoyed coffee at Great River Roaster and beers and snacks at Ralph's. It was the first time in the past few years our group of six friends could all get together, and this house made it extra special. Things we especially liked included the fireplace, the well-equipped kitchen, and the MP3 hookup. I don't remember any of us thinking "we could really use X." We wanted for nothing, except more time to stay there!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Our family is so happy that you enjoyed your stay at our cabin! We strive to make it a place that you will feel comfortable in and want to return to!

We were looking for a clean and well maintained hideaway for our anniversary. The Eagles Nest lived up to expectations. Comfortable living quarters and everything we needed in the kitchen. The Harborview Café in the town is one of the best restaurants in the upper Midwest for a pleasant night out. Some of the prettiest driving opportunities with absolutely wonderful vistas. Make sure you grab the map they provide on the living room end table otherwise you're guaranteed to get lost out in the bluffs and valleys. Thanks.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thanks Jane and Tim. The Eagles Nest is beautiful, well kept, and decorated with care. A real retreat for those looking for a place to relax and enjoy privacy and quiet. We spent alot of time on the spacious deck watching the bright stars at night. We dined several times at The Pickle Factory and enjoyed watching the sunset from the adjacent harbor. There is also an open grill and bar on the highway through town where we spent some time. As we enjoy being along the Mississippi, we spent some time touring the towns surrounding Lake Pepin in both MN and WI. We visited Wabasha, Lake City, Red Wing, Stockholm and Maiden Rock. We went to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha and the Red Wing Pottery Outlet. There are two very nice bicycle trails in the area which we rode; The Cannon Valley Trail out of Red Wing and the Red Cedar Trail from Downsville, WI to Menomonie, WI. There is an awesome pie and ice cream shop in Stockholm just up the highway from Pepin. We think the area is very beautiful and got everything we wanted out of our time spent there.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are so glad that you enjoyed your visit to the Eagles Nest. We love to hear what hidden gems people have discovered! It sounds like you

Thank-you again for sharing your vacation home with us! We had a truly wonderful time during our stay in Pepin. Being new to the area we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised at all this beautiful area has to offer. We found the cabin to be perfect for our family, very clean, and tastefully decorated. My boys loved the loft as well! We spent time swimming at the beach, fishing near the marina where we caught 12-16" white bass, hiking (where the boys loved seeing deer, hawks, and numerous colorful butterflies) and fishing near Nugget Lake, visiting the Eagle Center in Wabasha, and shopping at Lark Toys. We also loved relaxing at the cabin where the boys enjoyed the games and toys and stargazing on the deck at night. The restaurants you recommended were wonderful and we were surprised by the fresh taste of everything we tried. We really appreciated how peaceful this area was, away from the hustle and bustle of more touristy towns. All of the local people we met were refreshingly friendly and helpful when we had questions. We were all sad to leave and are already talking about visiting again! Thanks again for your help in making our vacation one we will all remember.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your visit at the cabin! We fell in love with the Lake Pepin area the first time we saw it and are happy to share it with you.

I spent a weekend up here with some friends of mine with the goal of relaxing and having some fun. Pepin is far enough from the Twin Cities to make it feel like you've left town, but it's also only about an hour and fifteen minute drive, so it's close enough that you don't spend half your weekend driving. The Eagles Nest is located across the street from Lake Pepin. The only drawback in my opinion is the train tracks that are across the street. Every so often a train goes by and when it does it's pretty loud, but the beauty of the cabin and the lake are enough to overcome that minor annoyance. I'm not that familiar with Pepin, but the part of town where this cabin is seemed to be mostly residential, which is nice because you will not be bothered by a ton of other vacationers on your stay. The area is quiet, but if you're looking for something fun to do, you could take a short walk down to the marina and look at all the sailboats, hit the beach for some swimming, or patronize one of the small shops/cafes along First Street. For your eating pleasure, stop at the Pickle Factory (a former pickle factory turned grill and bar) for a bite and a pint. I would also say that there's no need to bring tons of food from home as there is a great mom-and-pop grocery store (a dying breed) called Paul and Fran's just up the next block and they will have everything you need. Not to mention a few bars that offer a great chance to shoot some pool and interact with the locals. Now to the cabin itself: in my opinion, for the price, this is the best deal out there. It's modern enough to make you feel comfortable (stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, nice bathroom, etc.) but it's also definitely got the cabin feel to it with the beautiful wood construction and decor. LOTS of space, everything on the main floor is open with the living room, dining room, and kitchen so it's perfect for lounging and hanging out with friends. A nice fireplace makes the living room extra cozy and there's a even a TV area with a futon. There's also a funny little door that leads to a small play area in the living room that younger kids would love. Kids would also love climbing the ladder up to the loft which has three twin beds. And there's a master bedroom with a nice big bed. The four of us were more than comfortable. The sliding glass door leads out to a large deck with a table and chairs. Lots of the fun! The Eagles Nest is highly recommended for a weekend with friends or a romantic getaway!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My brothers and I take our father on a fishing trip every year, and decided to try out this place in Pepin. We really enjoyed our stay. Everything is as advertised -- clean, neat, and comfortable. The highlights are the massive deck overlooking the water and the fireplace. The kitchen is really nice and clean too, which was nice when we cooked our fish. Overall, it is a really nice place to stay and we will definitely consider staying here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend! Your place is gorgeous! The weather was fabulous and we used the deck often! We enjoyed shopping and wine tasting at the Winery up by Stockholm too. We weren’t sure what to do with the bed linens, so we stripped the beds down that we used and piled the sheets up in the bedroom, same with towels leaving them in a pile on the counters. We had done that at other places we stayed, so I hope that was OK. I put the few dirty dishes we used in the dishwasher but didn’t run it. We used the recycle bins in garage for our bottles and cans, plus I took the trash out there as well. I believe we left it in good condition, but let me know if not. Thanks for opening your lovely home up to visitors, it was GREAT place to stay!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We enjoyed our stay in spite of the weather and fewer boat rides than we had hoped. Your location is good and we especially enjoyed the deck when the weather allowed. As we packed, we tried to think of items that we would really miss if you didn't supply them. One was a fly swatter, which we brought. We also thought to bring dishwasher detergent packets, which we needed. We used your tea towels for place mats to protect the dining table. You might want to consider adding some practical, wipe them clean, placemats. Your instructions and dining out suggestions were helpful, and we appreciate your concern for our comfort and pleasure. We recently spotted an item in a shop in Coon Valley that immediately brought your unique house to mind. It'll be in the mail to you soon. Thank you Tim! Our stay was wonderful. The cabin is absolutely beautiful. We loved having the games available to play with my boys LOVED that you had Star Wars to watch!
