Snowboard/Ski Weekend

Guest: Vlarysz (Walworth, NY)
Date of Stay: 01/28/11 Review Submitted: 02/01/11

Great location for a weekend at Gore mountain, about 20 minutes away. Chalet has everything you need and is clean and spacious. We had six adults and there was room for at least 2 or 3 more. We brought a crock pot and came home to dinner all ready to go on Saturday evening, which was really nice after a day at Gore. We found the beds very comfortable and the heating just right. Some tips for future short term/weekend renters: Bring your own sheets and towels so you do not need to do laundry. The owners require that all linens used be washed, dried, and neatly folded before you leave (except one load that can be left in the dryer). This can be a real challenge if you are only there for 2 or 3 days! Bring a good sharp kitchen knife if you plan to cook. Bring a griddle or large pan if you plan to make a big breakfast. Other than those completely minor afterthoughts, there was nothing we would have changed about our stay! (except maybe to wish for a hot tub!) The caretaker is directly across the street if you have any problems (which we didn't).

Owner response:Thanks for very positive feedback, please note rental guests may leave ONE load in washer AND ONE in dryer for the housekeeper to complete precisely to avoid stress at the end of a great stay as well as to avoid overstuffing the machines.

great winter getaway

My wife and I stayed here for a January long weekend with our two kids. The house is beautiful and very well maintained. It has plenty of space and nice amenities. The nearby lake is a wonderful spot for hiking and cross-country skiing. Our kids found several good hills to sled on and we cleared a patch of lake ice to do some skating. It's conveniently located close to the NY Thruway and only a few miles away from Chestertown, where there is a decent grocery store. Dynamite Hill is nearby for family sledding and Gore Mountain is about twenty minutes away for good downhill skiing. All in all we had a great stay. Owners were very responsive and helpful.

Five star experience

Guest: Adrian (Michigan)

We spent the 2010 Holiday Season at the Haus Cronov and we can only say good things about our experience. It was a positive experience starting with the first message we received from the owners and all the way to last night on the property. The house is designed to offer the relaxing vacation you dreamed about all year long. It is equipped with everything you need and everything is in a good working condition. No problems whatsoever and if you run in any, the help is just across the street. We used it for our ski trip, but I believe is nice in the summer too. Roomy, warm, bright, comfortable and welcoming. We absolutely recommend it.

Chestertown chalet

Guest: UK visitor (London, UK )
Date of Stay: 12/20/10 Review Submitted: 01/04/11

We rented this Scandinavian-style chalet in December 2010 for a family ski trip to nearby Gore Mountain. We'd recommend the chalet to other skiers - it was warm, spacious and particularly well-equipped (particulary compared to some of the European properties we've rented....) and very clean. Everything worked. Felt more like a family house than a rental. It is relatively easy to access from the interstate/ freeways from NY and the sking at Gore is about 15 minutes drive. There may be other properties closer to the mountain but I doubt you'd find somewhere as comfortable.....

Had wonderful time

We stayed in their house in 4 days in July 2010. House was great condition. All the upgrades they made were wonderful. I loved new deck with mosquito net. It was quit and perfect for my family. It took about 20 min to Lake George village. Chestertown was so small for us but it had nice casual restaurants by the Loon Lake and plenty of restaurants by the Lake George anyway. We would love to go back again.

Auust 2009. Just returned from first rental of Cronhaus. Experience was great and look forward to returning in 2010. Enclosed porch addition finished just before we arrived added a great deal to enjoyment of the house. Recommend to anyone seeking clean, equipped, well maintained home away from home.

We stayed at this chalet for our New Year's celebration in January, 2009. The house is in a quiet setting near a lake, and the inside is very neatly kept with lots of amenities. The owners had just added new hardwood floors and a gas woodstove, which create a cheery and cozy atmosphere. It is an ideal location from which to explore the Adirondacks - great for skiing, snow shoeing, cycling, canoeing, etc. At the end of the day, you'll be happy to relax by a warm fire back at the chalet.

This vacation rental was excellent. The private beach seems to be the nicest on the lake and is a short, but very nice walk with towering pine trees everywhere! The house itself is very nicely appointed and in true chalet style. The owner is currently making a lot of upgrades, but the work was suspended and non-intrusive during our stay, so there were no issues with that whatsoever. I would like to stay again when the work is all complete because it will be even nicer. The house does not have AC, so keep that in mind if you are thinking of booking during a time of peak high temps in the ADK's. The people in nearby towns and the residents around the lake are all a delight to strike up a conversation with, especially the on site property manager... a very nice person. The last thing to note is that there are two Loon Lakes in the ADKs. This property is well south of Lake Placid and the other one is a little north of Lake Placid.

What a wonderful week we had at this chalet. It was everything it was said to be. The snow and property manager welcomed us upon our arrival. He was very helpful and available throughout the week to answer our questions. Upon arrival my husband headed out to Dynamite Hill with 5 of the kids while my daughter and I unpacked and angled the large table that would become "Game Central" all week. The more we looked around the more we reveled in the abundance of everything provided. The Chalet is extremely well stocked...towels, silverware, pots and pans, tp and paper towels, everything was more than adequate and I quickly realized that even though our family is large I needn't have brought my two large pots, bowls, frying pan, or collander. The beds are comfortable, the linens not old or worn, the towels not thin or small...What a pleasant surprise to see such an abundance of all that we needed. We felt very much at home only without all the worries and stresses of everyday life. With the exception of the rain on one day, which prevented us from playing outside, the weather throughout the week was perfect. We used that rainy day to go bowling and to get started on all the indoor board games we had brought along. On Christmas Eve the 6 kids skiied at Gore, and there were NO lines. A more than perfect ski day. We didn't realize how wonderful that was until we went back on two days after Christmas and turned right around because the lines were too long. We went to Lake Placid twice, even though it was an hour's drive. There we skated on the Oval where E. Heiden won his Gold Medals, stopped to see the Falls/Gorge while en route, sledded, ate dinner, and saw a newly released movie in a quaint historic theatre. Back in Chestertown we snowmobiled for the first time ever and had a blast with that. The kids played in the newly fallen snow around the Chalet on Thursday and by then all had decided that their vacation was everything we had hoped for. We arrived back home to Maryland with happy snow memories dancing in our heads. We'd visit again in a heartbeat, and might venture there sometime in the summer to enjoy all that would be available then for an active family of 8.
