La Grande Terre is a typical 18th Century Provencal 'Mas' (traditional farmhouse). The property which is over two hundred years old has recently been renovated and lovingly restored and has been decorated with style, elegance with traditional antiques and beautiful furniture chosen with care and good taste. The house is perfectly situated with south facing, uninterrupted views of Bonnieux, Lacoste and the Luberon mountains.
The property is set in the heart of the beautiful Luberon valley, yet very accessible to local towns and delightful villages, where markets famously flourish, from the gentle 'locals' produce markets to the more flamboyant and colourful. The house is beautifully set in seven acres and surrounded by vines, lavender and cherry orchards. There is plenty of room around the south-facing pool, which is equipped with sun beds and chairs, to sunbathe and relax. There are good facilities for barbeque and al fresco eating. If you are an early visitor, the poppy fields are quite stunning thereafter the lavender takes over and perhaps sunflowers and of course the omnipresent vines! The swimming pool which has heating should it be required. measuring 10 x 5 metres, is brand new and completely private and for the use of the house only and has a safety cover for children. There is a good BBQ, large dining table, boules, and table tennis. There are other 'quieter' terraces providing shade for reading and relaxing or taking an aperitif. The nearest beach is about an hours drive away and is near Marseilles, there are quite a few different beaches along that part of the coast. Cassis, which is a delightful old fashioned port, is about 1.5 hours drive away and a good place to spend the day and enjoy a picnic and boat trip to the stunning Calanques. It has many cafes and great fish restaurants in the port.

Our family (two adults, two children, nanny) spent a delightful week here in early May. The location is peaceful, yet central to everything in the Luberon region. The property is truly well appointed and maintained in a manner that belies its rental status. Comfortable with room for kids to play both inside and out --- yet attractive in a tasteful, high-quality and non-fussy way. Owners and on-site caretaker were genuinely helpful, yet totally non-intrusive. Our three year old still goes on about our "France house" --- and we wish it were ours!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at ‘La Grande Terre’ in the summer for one week. It was a family holiday. There were just eight of us; my wife, her three sisters and their husbands. We all love France and I was made responsible for finding the right property and location. They all chose Provence as a desired destination and I spent a considerable time on the internet looking at, seemingly, dozens of holiday properties in the area. I couldn’t have chosen better anywhere. La Grande Terre is right in the middle of Vaucluse at the heart of Provence. If you have read Peter Mayle’s ‘A year in Provence’ La Grande Terre is surrounded by the villages and towns brilliantly brought to life in his book. There is so much to do and see in this magical region of France. The property is wonderful. The English owners, an architect/property developer and his wife have transformed a derelict French Mas (farm house) and out buildings into beautiful holiday accommodation. The original farm house (‘Noble House’) has been carefully renovated, decorated and furnished in typical Provençale colours and style. The house is in a quiet rural location within a short drive from the markets at Apt (a Saturday morning must) or Gordes or Loumarin on Fridays. Eating out is to die for and the choice of restaurants is vast. Don’t miss a lunch at the inexpensive ‘Café de la Poste’ in the small village of Goult and do splash out on an ‘end of week’ gourmet meal at La Coquillade in Gargas, a five minute drive away. And save yourself time and effort consulting restaurant guides. The owners are real ‘foodies’ and will love to suggest somewhere to match your tastes and pockets. And if you just want to laze in the sun and BBQ by your own pool, while the daily help makes the beds and cleans the rooms, it’s just outside your own front door! La Grande Terre was absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t recommend it more strongly. We’re saving up to do it all over again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

I stayed at La Grande Terre with my family and some friends earlier this year for 2 weeks. We chose the property because of its location, right in the heart of the prettiest part of the Luberon Valley but close enough to make day trips to Avignon or St Remy. We have rented lots of properies all over Europe and Asia, but this was very special. Each bedroom has a local style and each has its own charm. We stayed in the Arles room and our friends took the Rousillon room and we swapped half way through for the different experience. Unlike a lot of French rentals each of the 4 main bedrooms has its own en suite bathroom. And the bedroom upstairs which we used for the children has a great bathroom especially for children's baths. The children loved playing in the massive room upstairs and it became their kind of dorm/playroom. The pool and al fresco dining area were used every day and though there is an abundance of great restaurants in the area, we loved our lazy lunches around the pool under the bamboo shade. What made La Grande Terre different was the love and care that had clearly gone into making this a beautiful home and not just a rental property. We are planning to go back again next year for a week.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: We are a married couple who adore France and the Luberon in particular where we love spending as much time as we can. He is an architect and she his part time secretary. In England, Bill specialises in conservation and restoration of old and interesting buildings, preserving as much of the architectural features as possible, which of course stood him in good stead for this major undertaking here in France. We have travelled extensively and incorporated some ideas and artefacts into the restoration which we have collected en-route, thus creating an interesting and eclectic mix, whilst also keeping the 'Provencal' feel in the house. We both love good food and wine and those are two other great reasons to have a home here with so many wonderful restaurants and vineyards within easy reach.
Why the Owner Chose Bonnieux:
We have for many years talked about and wanted to have a house in Provence. Ideally, we wanted to restore and old Mas as this is what we believe we are good at. We spent lots of time during our holidays browsing Estate Agent's windows and deciding exactly where we would like to buy a property, we narrowed the area down to the beautiful Luberon Valley and just about where we did manage to find this lovely old house, which we believe is perfectly situated. It is within easy reach of the beautiful hill top villages and a large market town which is only 8km away. The restoration of the mas and the gardens tested our patience and pockets way beyond our initial estimation but we got there in the end and are thrilled with the result of our labours, both mental and physical!
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
La Grande Terre is conveniently located and also has beautiful views across the countryside to the Luberon mountains and Roussillon. We don't feel cut off here but at the same time have privacy and tranquility.
