  Our family group of 12 stayed at Whispering Sands over Thanksgiving, 2012. We had one of our best vacations ever, due mainly to our accommodations. The house is huge, super clean and very well arranged. Every bedroom has a full bath. This made for a private retreat for all family members. The two car garage and elevator are life savers. We arrived during a nor'easter and being able to unload our car inside the garage and transport coolers and suitcases up on the elevator was awesome. The dining room table easily sat our entire family for meals. It was really nice to have everyone at the table together for our Thanksgiving meal. There was no need for a separate children's table. An added plus is the view! We could see the ocean and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from the dining room table. The house is one block from the ocean and is an easy walk and the house is situated so that you have a clear view of the ocean out all the front windows on the 2nd and 3rd level. We didn't use the swimming pool but we did use the hot tub. It is large and very relaxing. The kitchen may be my favorite part of the house. It is huge with lots and lots of counter tops. There are two dishwashers (a really good idea) and two separate sink areas. There is plenty of room for several cooks and we didn't mind other people joining us in the kitchen while we worked. A small table in the kitchen offers a view of the woods behind Whispering Sands. There are many deer in these woods and they came into the backyard almost everyday. There are also some cats that hang out in the woods, too. These cats managed to intimidate the deer. The deer, which are huge, are clearly afraid of the little cats. It was pretty funny watching the cats chase the deer off the property. Better than TV. 5 adults went to Pop's Raw Bar one evening. That was certainly an experience! It's mainly a bar but the food is delicious, some of the best seafood we have ever had. We all got out and walked on the beach everyday, even in the rain. The waves were huge and impressive. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and museum aren't far away and that is a good destination if you have children along for the walk. The kids spent a lot of time digging in the sand, building sand castles and they found some splendid shells. We loved that the house is on a cul-de-sac. The kids brought their skates with them and they skated in the road with no fear of being run over. We all highly recommend Whispering Sands and would definitely return!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

  Vacations at the beach with a disabled family member can become a lot of work instead of a vacation. Whispering Sands changed that for us, and our trips to the beach will never be the same. Our son had the time of his life, with a pool that was easy to get in and out of, a hot tub that held all of us, an elevator and ramps that gave him the freedom to be in all areas of a magnifcent home, and also made loading and unloading all our stuff a lot easier than lugging it up flighjts of stairs (something that age makes more dificult every year). Because of the thoroughness of the realty company that handles the property, we were able to find places to eat, attractions to see, and for our son, a 4-wheel drive vehicle to rent, so we could visit beaches only accessable by 4-wheeling. Also, how could you not love that kitchen, it had everything you needed to cook any meal you could imagine. We loved our vacation (a dream come true) and the charm of Hatteras Island. Hopefully if all goes well, we visit again next year and be "able to be disabled at the beach" again. Thanks for a truly great vacation in a truly great house. We hopefully will see you next year.   Our week at Whispering Sands was a time that we will always cherish. A warm reception at Hatteras Realty when we checked in got the week off to a great start. When we first drove up to the house, we were stuck by the beauty of the building. And the view from the inside out is even more stunning. Cooking and eating on the third flood each day is a dream! You feel within arm's reach of the beach and the famous Hatteras Light House. Let me say - the pictures do not do this place justice! The house is perfect for a group from 8 to 18, with plenty of bedrooms and three TV rooms. We hooked the Wii up to the downstairs TV and it became like a game room with the pool table right next door. Of the many other comforts, we enjoyed the hot tub the most! Even on chilly nights, we sat out there comfortable much of the evening. We loved our stay at Whispering Sands, and working with the extremely hospitable owners. Consider this for your next OBX excursion!

  We rented Whispering Sands in 2010 for a family reunion and everyone loved it! In fact we're coming back in 2011 for another reunion. The house lends itself well to being in a large group such as dining, has a pleasant kitchen to prepare the meal, and has lots of places for more private conversations in small groups. It is well equipped for infants and families. We loved sitting on the deck on the upper level to read, watch the crowd go by, talk etc. Couldn't be a more perfect environment for our get-together. Ample parking in the back of the house. We did rent another house for our overflow close by. Highly recommend this rental.

  Probably the best beach property we ever rented, from the large pool to the enormous kitchen with every convenience including 2 dishwashers. And a great deal as well. Each bedroom has a large bed and its own bath and the mattresses are very comfortable. Great for 4 couples or large family. Buxton is remote and not commercial at all. If you are looking for a Myrtle Beach type beach this isn't for you. Great owner communications and a genuine interest in making his property a great rental.

  WOW! The views from the upstairs living areas or the decks are incredible.You can see the waves breaking on the beach and the lighthouse. You will not want to leave. This house has everything . It was a short walk to the village and a shorter walk to the ocean. A beautiful house with a great layout. This house has it all. If you stay here you will definitely want to come back again and again.
