Il Pianaccio is our home in Umbria, Italy. It is a traditional Italian farmhouse constructed with thick stone walls, wood beams and terracotta floors and roof. We have recently completed a total renovation of the house and it is now available to rent. The house is located on 2.5 acres in the country but within sight of the nearest village, Pesciano. It makes a perfect place for a relaxing holiday with lots of peace and quiet while being near many of the most popular tourist areas in Umbria and Tuscany. The area surrounding the house is ideal for hiking and for viewing native wildlife. Not surprisingly, there are many great restaurants within a short driving distance. We would be happy to recommend our favorites. With its thick, stone walls; shuttered windows and doors; and elevated location, the house remains comfortably cool even during the hottest months. All windows are screened and the lower windows and doors have decorative security grates.
The house comfortably sleeps 10 but can also accommodate smaller groups. It has three floors with five bedrooms, four bathrooms (two of which have separate shower and tub), two living rooms with ceiling fans(one with satellite TV and DVD player), and a dining room with a table for ten. It also features a gourmet kitchen with a large refrigerator and freezer, a five-burner gas stove with two ovens, Carrera marble countertops and a dishwasher. There are three fireplaces and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Outside, there is a large covered pergola with a table for eight and another table for four. A balcony off the middle floor at the other end of the house is a perfect location for a morning caffé. There is a new 12 meter by 5 meter pool with glass tile surfacing and a renovated outdoor wood-burning bread/pizza oven.
The renovation of the house preserved it in the traditional style for Italy with exposed beams and terracotta floors and ceilings. The bottom floor features three brick arches which create an open floor plan for the living room, dining area and kitchen.
The house is located in Umbria, the green heart of Italy, about ten km from Todi. It is convenient to Orvieto, Assisi, Deruta, Perugia, Torgiano, Gubbio, Montefalco, Spello, Spoleto and the other points of interest in Umbria and is a good base for going to attractions in Tuscany. Rome and Florence are each approximately a ninety-minute drive.

Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: After years of renting in Umbria/Tuscany, three Iowa families linked by the practice of law took a leap of faith and jointly purchased Il Pianaccio. We enjoy spending time together and bringing our friends, children, and other family members to experience the peace and solitude afforded by our Umbrian escape. While Il Pianaccio currently serves as our vacation home, the ultimate plan is to retire to our property and enjoy la dolce vita on a daily basis. Whether you are bringing your young children to experience Italy for the first time or renting the house with friends, Il Pianaccio meets the needs of diverse groups. It is our home-away-from-home and is comfortably furnished. We invite you to contact us with any questions that you may have with regard to daytrips or Italian culture in general. We are eager to share our love of Italy with others and hope that you consider spending time at our home.
