Aloha and E Komo Mai! Welcome to our vacation home in one of the Big Island’s most beautiful "secret" vacation spots, Kehena black sand beach in Puna Beach Palisades. Situated on the eastern coast of the Big Island, away from major "manicured" tourist developments, Puna Beach Palisades holds the serenity and unmarred beauty of an island paradise. Lush rainforests, jaw-dropping coastlines, and some of the freshest air in the world! While on the "wet-side" of the island, it doesn't have the desert-like heat of Kona, and gets a lot less rain than Hilo (only ~ 70 inches/year, compared to Hilo's 135 inches/year).
An easy drive to beautiful waterfalls, world class snorkeling, Volcano National Park, excellent restaurants, and exploration of the active lava flow & beach.
Our newly constucted tropical retreat has 3 bedrooms, with 2 California-king size beds and 1 Queen. 2 ½ baths, Master bathroom has Jacuzzi tub, separate rain-fall shower & double sinks. Our 2nd bathroom adjoins to a unique “private” outdoor lava-rock shower with 2 shower heads and river-rock floor for a natural foot massage!
Other features include a beautiful gourmet kitchen, comfortable open living room, formal dining room that seats 8 or simply enjoy dining in our spacious covered lanai from which you can enjoy ocean views and fragrant tropical breezes.
Fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves and enjoy the fantastic sunrises.
Great for a quiet romantic getaway, rejuvinating-healing retreat, or a family reunion.
An excellent way to experience the natural beauty and majesty of Hawaii in style and comfort.
Accommodates from 2 to 8 guests.

Great home! I do not want to call it rental but indeed a "home". Impeccably maintained and with the benefit of having Juan's advice readily available our stay was just what we hoped for. The black sand beach, hot pond and snorkelling in the tide pools was just a dream. A couple of pointers: - four wheel drive or at least a front wheel drive small SUV is a must - don't expect to jump into a "beach resort"; no such thing; the landscape is indeed rugged but the black sand beach is a marvel - the home is simply great but don't expect cable TV and air conditioning; the ceiling fans are great though and the all other appliances including those for laundry and dish washing are top notch - the lava rock outside shower is simply great - everything is so clean and the laminate flooring and terrace hammock put the cherry on the cake - stock up before arriving with food and beverages; everything else is top notch; they even have a wine cooler! It's such a shame we only had 3 days to spend here. Will definitely return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My boyfriend and I stayed at the house for two weeks. We have two friends who live down the road. The house is very new and clean. The furniture and amenities are very nice. I would recommend bringing a laptop to gain internet access because the house only uses cable internet not wifi. Also cell phone reception is a bit iffy in this location of the island. Reception gets better as you get closer to Pahoa. The house is close to Kehena beach for sun bathing (surf looks to rough to swim) and the Kapoho tide pools for snorkeling and the destroyed Kaimu beach. Pahoa is about 20-30 minutes and Hilo is about 40-50 minutes at least to us who are not use to the windy Hawaii roads. Also it gets dark in Hawaii so we tried to be home before dark rather then trying to drive in the dark. We would get home at dark make dinner and enjoy the relaxing environment of the house. I would rent this house again if I were to stay on that side of the island.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

This place is absolutley gorgeous! Although we only stayed there one night night, I wish our whole vacation was there. So close to everything, the volcano excursion is literally 10 mins away. The house is beautiful, roomy, perfectly decorated and has that "beachy" theme and easily accessible. Loved it! We'll be back! And not to mention the owners and grounds keepers were so accomodating! ThanksRecommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

This is a fairly new house with high end feature furniture, bath room and kitchen appliances (and everything else). Very nice kitchen and BBQ grill on the deck; my family enjoyed having meals on the porch with the sea breeze and ocean view. What can be better than this? The house is roomy enough to accommodate 8 people; the outdoor shower place is convenient for kids to have a quick rinse brush off the beach sand and clean all snorkel sets. My husband and I are glad we made a smart choice to stay on the southeast side of the island instead of Kona resort area on the west. We love the rain forest view better than the Kona dry and boring black flat land. The house is within walking distance to Kehena beach (1 min) and the famous black sand beach (7 mins). We arrived on 3/22 and found there was lava explosion right off the area beach on 3/5, we were able to walk right by the fresh lava and sit on the black sand beach. It is amazing. The snorkel beach is about 10 miles away. There is a nearby small shop within 2 mins drive, but I would rather drive 20 mins to Hilo downtown to shop (stack & save); try pack as much as you can in a single trip to save gas money. After spending average price about $1.50 for an apple, I was so happy to find the local farm market in Hilo downtown where I bought 6 papaya for $1 and various vegetables for just $1/bag. As a tourist In Hawaii, you have to shop where the locals shop and eat the local fruits like papaya and pineapple. Fish and meat are cheaper than a gallon of ice cream. Be flexible on your diet or pay big bucks on the must food you just can't live without - it's your choice. If there is one thing that I wish the place can offer is to have more choice on the internet access. AT&T is only network with clear signal and you will need to access internet through cell phone. Also, there is no TV in the house. We have to make calls when we were heading out and go to a video shop to log on to internet. If you have to live by emails and internet, make sure you have AT&T cell phone with internet. Other than that, I think this is a very comfortable house to stay with very easy access to the beach; the tourists live in the area are very friendly; the Kehena beach breathtaking view has many snorkel places ($0 fee) to be explored; the manger of the house is so helpful to provide information for the surrounding area. Our family travel to many places and this is one place I will definitely like to come back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: Aloha, Thanks for the wonderful comments and review. Glad you enjoyed our home! Some updates: - We just got a 42 inch LCD TV with DVD player. It also has a connector so you can connect your laptop to it if you'd like to view hulu, netflix streaming, etc. - The ocean view just got MUCH better, as a number of overgrown trees have been removed from a neigbooring lot, clearing up a beautiful ocean view and palm tree. - We now have Wi-Fi to go along with broadband internet! Mahalo, John

Aloha! This brand new, carefully built, and unique style house became the perfect retreat for our family of 4 as we escaped the December weather of the frigid northeast to meet 3 other members of our extended family flying in from other parts of the US. After 2 nights at the Hilton in Kona, we were ready to leave the hotel scene and LIVE in Hawaii, have beautiful walks to the black sand beach, and outside showers in the lava shower. By the way, bathing in the private outdoor shower where you can watch the millions of stars (or having the warmth of the sun shine right down onto your skin) while rinsing your hair was an experience I thought I would never enjoy- very nice touch! The owner was very helpful, and was easily accessible making the check-in/out process smooth. Friendly neighbors would wave as they drive/jog/bike by. Shopping is either about 10 or 20 miles away- depending on whether you go to Pahoa or Hilo- we did both. The house and property is just like described on the website. No surprises. We hope to catch the Volcano National park the next time we visit. John, thank you for respecting your guests in the way you do and making this house our home away from home. We were sad to leave. The views of the ocean from our bedroom lanai were so relaxing. We pulled the table out onto the lanai and grilled fresh ahi tuna for a relaxing outdoor lunch in a light breeze. Cooking with such a view was never so much fun. Our kids had a great time playing around the house, asking to go to back to the natural warm springs every day. We plugged in our ipods and were able to hear the music from all the wireless speakers around the house. We are looking forward to seeing what fruits you grow next. Thanks again for a nice break. We highly recommend this vacation home. Mahalo!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.
