We stayed in the Crow's Nest for three nights and couldn't have been more pleased. Don and Kathy were great hosts! The room was clean, the bed very comfortable and the shower was the best we've ever seen in Nicaragua (not only water pressure but HOT water too!). The beach was beautiful and extremely secluded ( we saw less than a dozen people in 3 days). Helen made the best lobster ever (huge grilled tails). Helen and Jesse's children are adorable and they're lucky I didn't sneak them into my suitcase!

We couldn't imagine staying anywhere else on Corn Island. It is located on the most beautiful portion of the island with the nicest beach. A little off the beaten path in the best way possible but still just a short walk or bike ride to the best restaurants and bars on the island. Don and his staff were beyond hospitable making bikes available, preparing home cooked lobster meals on the beach, arranging for freshly baked coconut bread, and making us feel at home. Just incredible people. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and we can't wait to book our next trip, hopefully for a much longer stay!

Don, Kathy, their adorable dogs and fantastic housekeeper/facilities coordinator, Helen, gave us a warm welcome. The "Treehouse" is every bit as amazing as the photos suggest. Though it's across a dirt road from the beach rather than directly overlooking the water, we chose it rather than the "Crow's Nest" (also listed on airbnb) for the additional privacy of being separated from the family compound. While the Crow's Nest is built over the main house and accessed by a staircase within the courtyard, the Treehouse is built over a utility room nestled in native vegetation, a wild garden and a rustic chicken run. We were welcomed to the fresh eggs, the wi-fi, and the cooking or laundry services of Helen (for very reasonable fees). She and her husband were a wonderful source of information about the island, restaurants and directions. At their suggestion, we discovered the local hang-out at Spekito's Place, less than a mile from the house, where we enjoyed the best fried fish we found during our entire stay on the island. Be prepared to pay cash though; most local services and restaurants on the island do not accept plastic. Casa Canada (which will accept credit card) has a foreigner-friendly restaurant that serves a variety of North American and Carribbean cuisine, and was readily accessible with the bikes we rented from our hosts. Taxis are extremely affordable if hailed from the roadside, if riding for your meals doesn't appeal. The Treehouse itself epitomizes the simplicity of island living, while showcasing outstanding local artisan craftsmanship in the woodwork and striking tile designs. The breeze through the shutters was lovely. Overall, it was a comfortable, functional space for a couple with ample storage, a well-appointed kitchen and bathroom, and instant access to one of the most beautiful beaches on the Caribbean side of the island. We felt more safe here than in any of the other regions of the mainland we visited, and were additionally reassured by the presence of a night-guard downstairs. When an extremely delayed flight from the island to the mainland left us unable to make our next tour connection, and thus without any accommodations, our hosts very graciously allowed us to extend our stay at the Treehouse on short notice. We would return in a heartbeat, and for much longer than our 6-day honeymoon allowed. The island casts a spell on travelers that is hard to escape...

First ever out of the country experience for my wife and I and we couldn't have picked a better first trip location. Corn island is beautiful, friendly and safe. The tree house was lovely. No complaints at all with the quality of the accommodations and the attentiveness of our hosts. Corn island is not a traditional vacation for most folks so keep that in mind. There are very few tourists, which is very good. Most of the visitors we met were European which was also very good. There are no national chain stores for groceries or resturants on the island either which is very good. Lots of beach, lots of sun, lots of peace and lots of rest is what you'll find. The water was clear, clean and warm (about 81 degrees). Air temperature fluctuates between 78 and 85 degrees on a daily basis. No Mosquitos on this side of the island but expect them on the other side after dark. I was concerned about there being no a/c but discovered that it was not needed at all at the Tree House. Always a nice breeze and the house is equipped with fans for sleeping if needed. My only complaint would be the rooster in the back yard. He likes to crow way to early in the morning for me and the rest of us. Also, I must say that the Tree House is a little cramped for four adults. Two kids and two adults would work just fine. Rent this place with confidence. We liked it all so much, we will be returning soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 nights at Treehouse recently so that we would not have to worry about catching the early morning panga from Little Corn for the morning flight back to Managua. Glad we made that choice since it was much nicer to take the afternoon panga back and I think that Treehouse/Crows Nest must be the best value on all of Big Corn. Our friends were staying at Sea Star which is about a 2 minute walk away so that was very convenient (they wish they'd been able to stay at Crows Nest instead but unfortunately it was booked). All of us had fallen in love with Little Corn so it's a little hard not to be biased, but Little Corn (or the panga ride there) is not for everyone, so if you're going to Big Corn I think this place is perfect. It's $1 per person for a cab ride anywhere on the island, and Long Bay is a beautiful beach. From Treehouse you can walk about 5 minutes to Island Style for a bar/restaurant, and if you keep walking down another 5-10 minutes you'll hit some stores and more restaurants/hotels. We had stayed the first night of our trip (before the morning panga TO Little Corn) at Paraiso on the other side of the island and I much preferred the Long Bay side. Probably if you want to go out to more bars/restaurants, the other side might be better, but if you want a beautiful beach with not a lot of people around, then I think this place is perfect and $50 a night for what you get is a fantastic deal. Comfortable bed, cute decor, very clean (and cleaned daily), equipped kitchen, and a nice hot shower (well the first day at least... 2nd day wasn't hot but I began to simply never expect hot water in Nicaragua as a whole and just be pleasantly surprised if there was some!)

Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review. It makes us feel great when people enjoy themselves whether for a couple of days or a month. Also we have upgraded the hot water. A good thing even in the tropics.

This studio apartment could not have been better! Despite the weather (December may not be the greatest time to go), this is a lovely "tree house" on a relatively secluded beach. Don and Kathy were welcoming and thoughtfully caring in a nicely unobtrusive way. Helen and Nerri (the two staff on property) were charming and helpful. We had everything we needed, including local shrimp and lobster whenever we asked for it. The balcony overlooked the sea and we could watch the sunrise from the comfort of the bed. Ideal for maturer couples (at least one of us was over 50!), I imagine the proximity to the beach and available boogey boards, kayaks and hammocks make it equally attractive to families that still know how to entertain themselves and don't need a resort-run daycare or activities service to keep them amused.

I stayed at this property as part of a group that was on the island doing spay and neuter clinic work. It was a wonderful place for us to return after a day in hot and overloaded conditions. Some of us were die-hard swimmers so we were thrilled with the short walk to the water from our room, and swam mornings and evenings with joy. They took good care of us and we relished our evenings on the veranda around a big table set up just for our group. Our stay there added to our experience and I do recommend this location to all considering it.

My husband and I stayed at the Tree House and Crows Nest for roughly 6 weeks during the 2011 to 2012 winter. The rooms were comfortable and right on the beach. The Tree House was slightly larger with a queen bed and just across the road from the beach, while the Crows Nest was slightly smaller with a double bed and right on the water. The owners (Don and Kathy) were very hospitable. Both places caught a nice breeze off the ocean keeping the temperatures very mild in the rooms. The Caribbean Sea in front of their property was quite pleasant with warm temperatures. There aren't many beaches on the island so having a beach front studio was quite nice. The staff (Helen) made our stay even more enjoyable. Her little girls would take us on walks to find fruit and to secret beaches. A lovely family. Thank you. P.S. If you require Internet for working, we would not recommend staying as it was up and down quite frequently. I think the owners are working on getting set up with a better connection so check before booking. However, if you only need to send a few emails that can wait a day or so, then I would definitely recommend this place.

My husband and I spent a lovely week at the treehouse after our wedding. We were very well taken care of by the caretakers Helen and Jesse and their girls Yakari and Lorine, (sorry I dont know how to spell the names!) who brought us mangoes and avocados from their tree. Helen even shared her homemade pumpkin cake with us! We miss them already. The house was perfectly clean and we got fresh linens and towels everyday. The beach is perfection. The house is well built, and we enjoyed hanging out and cooking the fresh snapper we purchased from a local fisherman. We grew to love the almond tree that wraps around the corner of our porch. Everyone we encountered on the island was super friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome.
